I haven't listened to Schubert in a while, and this piece is just so absolutely beautiful. There's a bold assertiveness reminiscent of Schumann, while at the same there are traces of Chopinesque melancholic sensitivity in the minor-key passages.

I wonder if Schubert originated these melodies or used folk material? Does anyone know?

I wanted to add that Brendl has amazing dynamic control - his rhythm is extraordinary, and each note has very individual control of the loudness or volume, and staccato / legato. There are degrees of staccato, and Brendl is extremely precise -worth studying and copying.
