i7 family is superior to their phenom II counterparts (there isn't actually a counterpart for the i7 anyway)

so it doesn't really matter whether p55 are future proof or not. They are already the future. And I said that as an AMD fan...

In that case, whatever (i5, i7, Phenom II) fits your budjet will be a good buy. This guys will give you superb performance for the price.  And there will be newer processors for sure, but, the people who gets computers as a matter of need can't get easily behind with one of these monsters (people doesn't require and rarely grasp what any of this processors is able to give). Which is why AMD boards with Nvidia and AMD are gonna be a better value. ;-) Seems with every update from Intel they want more and more control over every part of your PC, while AMD gives it's user choices, even if they own ATI, they still let 3rd parties choose Nvidia if they like.

over clocking is changing the voltage and frequency on a certain piece of hardware and thus increase its performance without having to spend more money and buy something better.

eg. if u have a core i7 920, (which runs at 2.66ghz), you can over clock it to run at 3.06Ghz (which is the same as the 950) but you didn;t have to spend that extra cash and buy the 950 to start with :D.

overclocking is popular as its pretty much getting extra preformance for free
