Dan MacNamera and I used to lay on his bed in college, clothes on, and listen to this over, and over. Thank-you Dan for turning me on to this almost 40 years ago now. Great memories of you, and this music. Kathy Ballard xooxox
Hello again. Just a quick thought however. I haven't listened yet to your new upload. However, the Fantastica performance was marred a bit by the poor acoustics ( or microphone placements?). The strings section was the problem, I believe
Otherwise the performance could have been crisper.
@horationelson57 Hi - I have finally succeeded in uploading it to youtube, description has been updated with link. The problem before was with the audio compression introducing artefacts, but I converted to another format and now the sound quality is great. I'm glad you liked it, there are a few very nice themes in there ( I think!)
I have loved this piece since I was 16 years old-it was popular during the autumn of that year, and to this day I associate the two... leaves falling, and the chill of the wind.
Superb playing and spot on with the speed of playing. Its a pity though that there are several jumps in the video where a few notes are missing. But apart from that very enjoyable. Also played in a church I am familair with in High Wycombe, although I now live in New Zealand.
after several weeks having discovered this video I'm still looking, hearing and crying at least 15 times each evening and enjoy your mighty playing of the Warsaw Concerto. It is such a beautiful piece of music which you performed in a fantastic way. Thank you and please go on!
This was one of my best experiences in piano playing in the last years! Thank you for your absolute best performance - please go on - you are a "kanjer" !!
Congratulations! You did very well. Keep on enjoying playing the piano! You are young and your interpretation will surely mature as you age. I enjoyed your performance very much.
Well I'm not sure about the rest of the negative comments but I can only say how I wish that I can play like you. Especially a piece like this one, the warsaw concerto.
I learned to play this wonderful piece of music when I was young. My Father (Frank Reidy) was a friend of the composer and played (Clarinet) in the orchestra during the recording of the score for the film Dangerous Moonlight. I cannot listen to it without crying. This performance was truly excellent for such a young pianist. Very moving indeed. Francesco Reidy London 2011.
@GarnerReidy Dear Mr. Reidy, I'm also crying during reading your memo; my father was a piano pioneer without success, bur he played Warsaw Concerto like Chriss Hill - he really plays excellent ! Thank you Chris - please go on !!
I am touched by your comment; it would have been such a privilege to meet or know the composer. I am very glad you feel I did justice to this wonderful piece.
@GarnerReidy - nice to have a connection with the composer. Interstingly the monologuest Joyce Grenfell knew Richard Addinsell well and she wrote about him at length in her wartime journels which were published in the late 1990's. Gives an interesting insight into his character.
Video transported me. Can't rip my gaze from his hands. It's interesting that they don't show the pianist's face until the end - and he looks about 17.
You did a great job.....I highly doubt the negative posters on this page could have done a better job. This is a very complex and difficult piece to play. Kudos to you.
@salmander411 Thanks for your criticism - I agree there are many aspects of the performance I would now change given the opportunity; my playing was far from perfect. But I'm an amateur - not a professional, I play for enjoyment. This was recorded when I was 18, we had just 20 minutes of rehearsal with orchestra on the day... so yes there are some wrong notes and some bad phrasing but I think on the whole it's a presentable idea of a possible approach to the piece.
@chillzaa Okay well I definitely give you cheers for being so young and able to play a concerto at age 18.. And now I understand it was just a rehearsal, and you only had few minutes of practice before. Overall, pretty good for a young boy. I bet you are an awesome piano player now that you are older.
@wladycek hah, i guess you would probably say the same of an 6 year old learning to play hahah. the standard of playing is what it is. it wasn't posted under the pretense of greatness and as you can see from the performers comments, he is a modest person. i would give anything to play like this. I guess we are not as talented as you to rank this piece as "horrible"
Excelente composición de Addinsell.

I listened to your Fantastica (youtube uploads full movies for others; don't know why they forbid yours??)
Enjoyed it much. Thank you. The work carried much of that romantic spirit which sadly is all but lost today. Cheers!
