  • I have to play fair, this was a welcome update. Whilst I didn't mind the old Ewok song, I do prefer this one. Shame Lucas replaced Sebastian Shaw in the following DVD edit.

That's not to say I have anything against Hayden and being honest it was interesting to play with the idea of putting him in ROTJ, but sod it, Anakin/Vader is an old man in ROTJ and died an old man - he doesn't fit

  • @Finalzero vader wasn't born in fire. he was born after the death of mace windu. the suit came into play after the immolation in episode III

  • the ceremonial song wasnt that good, the older one is better!

  • Obi wan forgives him

  • PEACE!!!!!!!!!

  • Vader ends like he was born... in fire!

  • definitely one of the best endings of films of all time, although the re edit with hayden christensen in the re release ruined it completely, this is the version that i only care about and this is the version that is canon to me.

  • star wars>>>>>>> mass effect

  • lol anyone else see a stormtrooper being carried by the crowd at 1:13?

  • @theinternetkills @burmillaman What you both forget is that the prequels were planned 30 years ago, as mentioned in an interview with Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford. So the story of how Anakin Betrayed Obi-wan was probably mostly in Lucas' twisted head. Ok not specifically the youngling incident but he obviously did some terrible crimes to get turned to the Dark side and these were probably ideas that would fit around the original trilogy story line. Stop seeing a nod, he clearly looked at yoda.

  • @lewis1689 by the way that interview with the Actors was in 1980 before Empire was released.

  • which year was christensen in?

  • Courage the Cowardly Dog is returning for a new season.

    YAY!

  • @HeavyMetalSocialist I could not fucking agree more.

  • I like having christensen in at the end. it makes more sense than some old guy you never saw in any film. plus he wouldn't look like that after being burned and losing all his limbs. for everyone who hates the new version and like an older version of anikin he should be that egg looking thing then not just old

  • @kickassguitarist well.....if u think about it..they r humans so have 2 get old , they are not immortals ..he lost limbs , not the ability of getting old D:

  • @rolo4005 yeah I see what you're saying and I'm not disagreeing I just think that since he looked so radically different when the helmet was off 5 minutes earlier it kinda makes no sense

  • @kickassguitarist You're a very passionate nerd

  • @SebiStudios2 wait till the 2017 3D release. i wonder wut theyre gunna change there?

  • Pitch seems a little high. Do you happen to live in PAL land?

  • That nod from Obi-Wan to Anakin saying "I forgive you" is so epic!!

    *nerdgasm*

  • @garymc2000 He is clearly not nodding, he looks down to yoda. AND killing the emperor would not receive Obi-Wan's forgiveness, he'd admire him for turning back but forgive him? not a chance, he killed so many younglings and basically helped the downfall of the whole Jedi order!! He does not nod at all in any forgiving way, so you can stop nerdgasming over your keyboard and stop seeing things that aren't there!

  • @lewis1689 It IS a nod of forgiveness, and I take from it that he is afterward looking down to yoda as to say "see who's here?" You're forgetting that the blasphemous scripts of the prequels wheren't thrown together yet!

  • Comment removed

  • @lewis1689 But Obe-Wan would be the kind of person to forgive him

  • @theinternetkills Obi-Wan Flucking typo

  • Bioware just decided to re-write Mass Effect Deception.

    yay!

  • @CroGamer002 victory achieved! >:D

  • Poland suspends ratification of ACTA so this was first song which came to my mind to celebrate.

  • @TDMxGalgas Nie dziel skóry na niedźwiedziu. Czysty PR.

  • see when i see Ben Yoda and Anakin brings a tear to my eye this is perfect so magical x

  • While I think this shows more for their victory, I think Yub Nub shows joy and is overall the better song.

  • Vader burnt again lolz

  • @videogamenostalgia holy shit i went to 1:12 and heard the scream I looked again and realized that the crowd is beating two stormtroopers to death. look closely you can see the whiter armor

  • hey, time it took for luke to look at the ghosts is shorten!

  • Why the fuck is there a wilhelm scream at 1:12?

  • @videogamenostalgia it's in the actual movie LOL

  • Anyone got the name of this song? :))

  • @alaron7000 STAR WARS VI END TITLE

  • can someone please tell me if they make the 1997 version on dvd?!!?!?

  • the original is the best by far!

  • @CristianTejadaU are you kidding? this one is the best. the music in the original was TERRIBLE!

  • @REKONBALL2 is call nostalgia kid, even i born in 1996 the first version i saw it was the original, and i still remember what cause in me when i saw it..

  • @CristianTejadaU i saw the original version first too. and even then i thought the music was horrible.

  • I agree that the music in this one is better than the boring Yub Nub song.

  • I prefer Yub Nub, but I also enjoy this song. Probably the only change in the special editions that didn't really bother me.

  • When Anakin appears I bet Obi Wan and Yoda are thinking "Yeah we're still not gonna talk to you..." :P

  • Did i stumble upon the recording of the celebrations after the defeat of SOPA and PIPA?

  • And that, my friends, is how you make a film.

  • it's great, because in the books one of the guys who was at Coruscant then describes how a Stormtrooper regiment basically slaughtered all those revelers lol

  • The emperor, his statue and 5 clone troopers disliked this

  • ugh why couldn't we have got this ending on the Blu Ray set, no WEESA FREE or Hayden and also the great ending music WHY LUCAS WHY!?!?!

  • It reminds my childhood!

    Always makes me cry :')

  • my favorite.

  • Best ending no gay hayden

  • @flashjacksonbrowable gay, really?

  • Why couldn't they have stuck with this ending? New Music + Older Anakin = Win.

  • The new ending makes no sense either. Anakin returns to his years before the Dark Side? Why? You don't see Obi-Wan in his young years.

  • @Zevvion Because Obi-Wan never was corrupted. Anakin returned to the way he was before being twisted and distorted by Sidious.

  • @atosafi1 Disagree. It's because George Lucas got his hands on it because the general public liked Hayden. If he thought it would've made sense before, he would've done it in the original version too.

Also, the entire idea behind Star Wars was [prequel trilogy] Anakin's rise as a Jedi and change to the dark side; [OT] his son redeeming him, turning him back to good. So no, it doesn't make sense. He was good when he died the old man that he was.

  • @Zevvion I don't like Hayden, I thought Episode II and III were really bad in acting and special effects. Episode I was better than the other prequels and the sequels, the special effects and CGI hit the right balance between exaggerated(e.g Revenge of the Sith) and underused(e.g the Sequels).

Leonardo DiCaprio would have made a much better Anakin.

I'm not going to argue about what Lucas did, it makes more sense to people watching Star Wars from the beginning with Anakin.

  • @atosafi1 completely agree with almost everything you said. Episode 1 is by far the best prequel.

  • @atosafi1 When was that?. All I rember him being an annoying kid in the phantom menace and an asshole in part 2 and 3. I just can not recall any instance him being a proper jedi in the prequels.

  • @VaeSapiens To be fair, it was a small kid in EP1

  • @atosafi1 Yeah and i embraced it. I remember telling myself "Ok. He is a kid. He does not know better and he is not this awesome jedi yet. But surely when he will mature in the jedi order, we will see a good man conflicted by passion, and a sad tale of him becoming his worst nightmare" or something remotely close to it. But no. Part II and III is telling us that Anakin was always an asshole, and no one in the audiance was remotely sorry for him in the end.

  • Star Wars Return of the Jedi

    Sebastian Shaw as Anakin ORIGINAL

    Hayden Christensen as Anakin BULLSHIT!!-.-

  • in the remasterd version, they have ghost ben yoda and the actor for anikin in the newer movies

  • This is the version I grew up with! The original version makes me go O_o and the new version makes me go crazy.

  • Does this song have a name and artist?

  • @michelinho The name I have no idea, but the artist is John Williams.

  • @michelinho the song is called victory celebration-john williams

  • yeah. as much as i am a purist for the old star wars movies and as angry as i am with what lucas did, this was the one thing he did right

  • This ending is so much better.

  • Yes we beat the Empire!

  • the victory..thanks to Anakin..he freed everyone

  • yub nub :_(

  • what's the difference between this one and the 2004 version?

  • @condeguga no added scenes with jar jar yelling "Wesa free", and sebastian shaw as anakin, instead of hayden christensen!

  • @andross51 christensen as anakin and jar jar are suffisant reasons to visit georges lucas with some flammthrower

  • @Jacobson607 ok seriously QUIT the fuckin death threats towards lucas, i am fuckin tired of it. God it has proven to me you guys are no fans threatening lucas's life like that uggh. Sorry if i sound nuts but everywhere i go its hatred of george god help me.

  • @Jacobson607 sorry didnt' mean to sound crazy there, just people's hatred of george has driven me nuts, you never did anything.

  • @andross51 well you see, I was just kidding

  • @Jacobson607 np, guess i hate lucas haters a lot XD!

  • @andross51 You must admit that "wesa free" just don't get it: it's like if gandalf did a wilhelm scream when he fell in Kazhad Dum ( sorry about my english)

  • 1:06 - 1:09 Does he say "viva la galaxia!", in Spanish?

  • Thank God for this. I can't take "Yub Nub" seriously at all, and it ruins the tone of relief from having just won such a great victory.

  • @RevengeOfTheKaizer This is crap. Yub Nub is better.

  • @recently311 This is the only good change made to the special editions, ever. Yub Nub doesn't even sound like Ewoks.

  • @recently311 haha you can't be serious that yub nub music SUCKS compared to the awesome victory celebration theme. Closes ROTJ perfectly. That yub nub music is no MUSIC at all!

  • @RevengeOfTheKaizer You can't take it srriously? Then watch another fucking film then.

  • @recently311 Nah, I'll just watch this version, thanks.

  • You think that the Ewoks roasted and ate the Stormtroopers?

  • @Thoralmir ... I sort of doubt that. :)

  • @AdmiralJab They seemed perfectly fine with the idea of roasting the heros earlier in the film...

  • @Thoralmir Exactly.

  • @Thoralmir lol

  • Wedge Antilles, the unsung hero of Star Wars.

  • the only good change in the films!

  • @2003jackb Definitely! :)

  • I know it's cheesy to compare the two but I like to imagine this ending to be similar to the celebrations that were held at the end of WWII.

  • @lenjonxiii I was thinking that! haha

  • @lenjonxiii hahahaha, 2:28, a proud randolph churchill appears before his son winston

  • Happy times

  • I agree this is the BEST ending to ROTJ closes out the trilogy PERFECTLY! The yub nub music SUCKs compared to the victory celebration them plus we have sebastian shaw at the end. GREAT ending!

  • In my opinion this was the best ending for ROTJ. the music is much better, but they still have the old actor for Aniken. Too bad they ruined it for the 2004 and 2011 special editions by replacing Sebastian Shar with Hayden Christensen.

  • is there a way to watch this version or download it from somewhere???

  • now this is the change that i didn't mind, but i'll admit this 1997 ending of ROTJ makes it more beautiful. thumbs up f you agree

  • I was very sad to find out my parents gave away 1997 VHS versions with our VHS player :(

  • I dont think vaders suit thats made of durasteel will burn.

  • Very Awesome ending ^.^

  • I thought the 1997 version was good enough, there didn't need to be any more changes, other than cg jabba and han shot first, everything else was great, the cg worked great for the space fight scenes, and I prefer the new ROTJ end music, as long as it still has sebastian shaw, I'm alright

  • This is the ending I grew up with, and I wish they'd keep the music and get rid of Hayden f**king Christensen.

  • So,Luke finally finishes Obi Wan's job @ 0:31

  • @phillipnorris107 lol! I was just thinking the same thing!

  • This ending and music is so much better than what they are bringing out now

  • Diffrenece between 1997 special edition and 2004 DVD version ending:

    1.Naboo celebration scene(added in 2004)

2.View of senate building & Jedi temple in Corscant(added in 2004)

3.Anakin' ghost replaced from Sebastian Shaw to Hayden, which is an actor of Anakin Skywalker in Episode II and III

  • instead of the prequils george should have made movies for the things that happened afterwords...

i mean the series did not stop here...

in fact luke went on to become grand master of the jedi order

leia went to be a jedi kight and merry solo and have childeren

    who would also become jedi

  • Where can I find the 1997 version? Please help! It can't be bought on Amazon.com, at least not the digital version. Can't find anywhere else too.

  • @merkurijs There are only Laser Disc and VHS versions avaible on ebay.com.

  • @merkurijs

    I don't think it's availible anymore.

  • By far the best ending with the music and Shaw

  • I actually prefer the Yub nub tune/ending. (A). Reminds me of my youth, (B). I love how the orchestra kicks into it and (C), it's a more appropriate ending. They destroyed the Death Star earlier that day. How come distant planets are having celebrations? This ending makes it look like the galactic empire suddenly lost control of the systems (and the entire galaxy) in a matter of hours.

  • @Noobsaibot21 its like when they killed osama, the riots all over the country were huge. me and my friends checked out the dc one, the police couldn't control that shit. i image people heard the emperor died and began to celebrate. its common in history.

  • @Noobsaibot21 It's not that hard to believe. Both the emperor and vader are dead, the death star destroyed and the imperial fleet pretty much defeated. One can only imagine the chaos within the imperial structure without a leader being able to control things.

  • My favorite version!

  • This is the only thing, in my opinion, that the SE got right.

I hated that damn stupid Ewok song.

  • 1:13 - Hidden Wilhelm's scream.

  • @Miloich hidden stormtropper in the crowd haha

  • @Miloich OMG, YOU'RE RIGHT! :D

  • Claiming that adding Hayden to replace shaw "ruins the whole movie" is beyond idiocy

  • @donaldthescotishtwin It ruins the Vader/Luke interactions in the movie, especially Vader saving Luke from the emperor and his death scene because those scenes were put there to show that Anakin didn't simply cease to exist when he became Darth Vader and that there was still good in him. It just makes sense that the old Anakin should be there, the Hayden Christensen ending completely contradicts those scenes.

  • @Chev427BB amen to that. George lucas should have left return of the jedi the way he left it in 1997. This version was just perfect.

  • My claim to fame... I know one of the original Ewoks :)

  • just watched the dvd today and was like wtf is that noob (hayden christensen) doing in the scence why would you ruin it

  • if you listen carefully theyre saying libya

  • When Anakin showed up next to Obi-Wan, am I the only one who thinks that that must have been a really awkward conversation. Like, "Hey, sorry for killing you and everything..."

  • This was and is the best ending

  • @luis6079 No, he would be master skywalker, since vader was his sith name and anakin skywalker was his real name.

  • If a padawaan named Bader became a Jedi Master, would they call him Master Bader?

  • why lucas decided to photoshop Christensen in is beyond anyone's logic

  • Everyone's celebrating anarchy!

  • I agree. The 1997 version is better than the 2004 version. The prequels don't exist for me.

  • Cloud City and Tatooine are shown, the awesome new music, and Shaw as Anakin; perfect. Then Lucas had to throw Christensen in and ruin the ending of a great movie. *sigh*

  • How could I download this song? Thank you for the help in advance!

  • I loved this ending the best! I like this music better than the Yub Nub, but I wanted Sebastian Shaw. I'm so lucky I bought the 1997 edition as a kid.

  • Isn't laser discs one of those like GIGANTIC discs?

  • @ShindaDesu yup, 12" diameter.

  • @dmcemmet omg i remember those when i was a kid lol, i couldn't even properly load one XD

  • Without a doubt, the BEST of the 3 different ROTJ endings.

  • Best version ever.

  • Interesting how Coruscant appeared in the ending to the remastered ROTJ right before The Phantom Menace came out.

  • @TheCajunGambit1 I like to think this is when SW was at an all time high...then we saw Episode I....

  • @Kefkadet Apparently Coruscant was mentioned in the Star Wars novels made before Phantom Menace too and its mentioned that Emperor Palpatine has a palace there.

  • I think the 'Victory Celebration' is far superior to the 'Yub Nub' song - I can't understand how people tolerated it in the original version. There was a gag from 'Spaced', the Simon Pegg TV series where they watch all the original SW films and at the end, the audio from this scene is heard (imitated by the cast for legal reasons), it sounded nothing like the version I was familiar with - now I know why. I am not a fan of many of Lucas's changes, but this one was a wise choice.

  • Ah, the Star Wars Trilogy Special Edition (1997) = the trilogy during my childhood :)

  • It must be hard for a son to burn his own father..

  • This is the ending I grew up with, and still stands as my favorite. It made me cry when I was 5, and it still makes me cry today.

  • can you imagine that hell of a hangover they all had next day?? :Dwhole galaxy?? :D

  • Ohh Sebastian Shaw the best Anakin.

As Special Edition as better than 2004 DVD

  • the thing that bothers me about hayden at the end is not that he wasn't a good vader, but simply that luke would have no idea who he was.

  • why does everyone love sebastien shaw, all he didwas stand up for 10 seconds please people stop rating him when anakin kills the sand people and count dooku its badboy makes more sense for hayden to be at the end when allnew star wars watchers will see him turn good to evil. if anakin ws supposed to come back the way he died he would have a fucked up mangled body not a made up body of how he would of looked at 50 ifhe hadn't been burnt.

  • This is BY FAR the best version of the ending. It has the improved music, Sebastian Shaw, and no freaking Jar Jar Binks cameo.

  • The correct ending.

  • @LordMonbodo And the best.

  • Thumbs up if you love the "crowdsurfing" stormtrooper at 1:14.

  • ....i hope eric forman lived to see episode 6...and then died before lucas fell to the dark side

  • @starwarsfan117 Uh... who is Eric Forman?

  • @YodatheJedi12 i was referencing that 70's show...it's acttualy called that

eric is supposed to be a sci fi nerd who was obsesed with starwars

  • It's a crime that the remastered ending song as was played in the movie is not available anywhere. WHY did they have to mess it up with the stupid children singing "nyah nyah"?!?!??!

  • @Rafathaman94 We have to stop George Lucas from replacing Sebastian Shaw with the new guy when he gets unmasked by Luke!
