So my final words on this is, yeah she loved them both as did both of them loved her. However I believe Angel and Buffy will always being in love with one another wherever they get their chance to trully be together. Spike may love Buffy forever although he probably thought that about Dru and yet here we are. I don't think Angel loved anyone until Buffy and yes he may have developed feelings for others, cordy being the main one but his heart and soul will always belong to Buffy
Buffy and Angel or Buffy and spike....mmmm, Buffy loved them both, differently. Her's and Angel was pretty much love at first sight for both of them. Her's and spike was a love that grew from a situation that happened with Buffy coming back from the dead and feeling not quite herself and reaching out to spike cos she couldn't share this with her friends. I'm not a fan of Buffy & spike's relationship by any means but I can understand why others preferred it to the one with Angel but not for me.
I trully believe however much Buffy may haved 'loved' spike she did not love him as much as he loved her. Yes he went and got a soul for her and wanted to be good because of his love for her but so did Angel. It's just he already had his soul when he first got sight of her and she gave him a purpose in his life because if he had never met her would he have been destined to become this champion fighting for evil? If she was gay in the beginning I could understand, but then how realistic would it have been if she was gay and then turned STRAIGHT? LOL not vey realistic and the gays would certainly be upset. @uzimodem I understand what you mean. It would have been okay if she experimented with Tara and discovered she was bisexual. But from then on, they act like she only likes girls and everyone seems to forget that she used to fancy Xander and Oz. It didn't really make sense. But yeah, for me, Willow's random change of sexuality didn't really affect the plot. I felt like the majority of the episodes were too serious. Especially season 6 which was just depressing.

I only ever watched Twilight cause I found the chick attractive. Found it all pretty boring tbh. @smokestripe6 Agreed. Although unfortunately if you watched Angel BOTH relationships were made into a bit of a joke by the end of it. Buffy wrapped up nicely. Angel ended horribly. Taking just Buffy (the series) into account I'd have to agree that Spike's love for Buffy was far more intense. As a soulless demon he confused it for lust. He didn't want it to be anything more. After he hurt her (attempted rape) he fought for his soul. Not to mention Spike was just cooler. :p

In the last episode, They discuss Spike, his soul, and Buffy's feelings for him. When Angel asks whether he has a place in her future, Buffy explains that she still needs to grow up; there might be a future for them, but it will be a long time coming, if ever. Angel walks into the shadows (as in his very first appearance), saying with a smile, "I ain't getting any older."

When she says there has always been a connection between David and I she backs up as if to say I am not telling the truth. Because she is trying to actually turn the power around where he doesn't have power over her. I agree with the fact that Sarah likes David more than she does James, but Buffy and Spike were real. They were the grown up version of loving, not the "SEX IS BAD"-version for the kids. i personally never got the feeling that Buffy loved Spike more than she loved Angel, but i did get the feeling that Angel loved Cordelia at least as much as he loved Buffy, which then made season 5 of Angel and the part of the Buffy comics when he said that neither him nor Buffy will be happy with anyone else hard for me. then again, although i thought David played a great Angelus, i never found him a completely believable Angel anyway

In this one, it was pretty much seen as closure with Angel, but in Angel (the series) both Angel AND Spike become barely a footnote in history. Bringing Spike back was a stupid idea also. He was okay in the earlier seasons of Buffy but I didn't really like him with Buffy. I can sorta understand the doom and gloom love BA had going on, but when Spike came back in S4 I was a total Spuffy fan since then, even though they didn't have any sort of relationship until S6. I think they totally should of had Secret Spuffy lovin after Something Blue! :D
Buffy and Angel forever! Spike might have been a cool character, but he did try to rape Buffy. I know he got a soul after that, but I feel there's something sick and twisted about their relationship. I just think Spike was really misplaced on Buffy anyway. James Marsters even said he preferred being on Angel.

And, in AtS when Spike and Angel go to find Buffy in season 5 Andrew also says that she loves both of them but she has to move on with her life. So, to some it all up, she loves them both but for very different reasons. Let's all just agree that whatever happened, it was the best show ever and Joss Whedon is a genius :)
I think everyone should stop arguing over who Buffy loved more lol. She loved them both, Angel is her soul mate and will always be here true love, nothing will ever compare to that love, Joss Whedon has stated that and it's said in season 7 when she wants to kill Anya. No offence to Angel fans but I really find Angel too whiny. >.> I didn't think so at first but after rewatching the series he really started to get on my nervs. I don't like the too soft vampires. I rather have Spike who keeps to his bad ass personality even after falling for Buffy. Plus when Angel loses his soul he's a real vampire, his soul was a curse. Spike actually chose for it himself.

I don't get how you can say Spike is badass and Angel is whiny when all Spike did between seasons 4 - 7 was whine and moan. Season 4 he was complaining about the clip and seasons 5-6 he was complaining about his feelings for Buffy and in season 7 he was complaining about his new soul and him killing people.
Angel on the other hand stopped being whiny when he moved to LA and became more cold hearted (killing certain humans) and funny (making Angelus like wise cracks in fights) at the same time.
@TVfreakje1 I've been saying mostly that all along. Angel really IS so whiny, they actually make fun of it on his own show CONSTANTLY. It's a running joke! I did always prefer Spike, though he got rather clingy during his obsession w/Buffy. As some claimed, Spike didn't "make her" be bad. She chose that type of activity (the rough sex, etc.). I think THAT'S what she couldn't live with--that it came from inside her, not forced by Spike or anyone else. Spike knew this, unlike Angel.
I was so mortified when I notice that mostly the time Sophia, Michelle Waitmam and Melissa Barker was Buffy instead Sarah, yes, Sarah used stunt double to do big part the kicks, jumps and rolls! Besid I think some scene was slop edition, because Sarah was able to do the stunt own by herself!
Bangel fans are probably going jump on me, but if you watch "Chosen" again, Buffy just says she sometimes thinks about the future. She doesn't say she thinks about the future and Angel is in it. At that point in her life, she's not thinking about it because she has to figure out herself first (cookie dough speech). But, that's doesn't mean she didn't love Angel. She did. But she also loved Spike. Joss Whedon has even said so himself. Both were just different kinds of love.
Never cared much for Angel. I never thought DB was attractive. Just not my type. I didn't think JM was attractive either, although I thought he was hot in the '80s flashback in Fool for Love. Love the make up and spikes. But B/A left me cold and bored. B/S was hot, lots of passion and rough sex. It was hot enough to make me think both JM and SMG were kind of sexy.
@angel64 Sarah's the only one I thought was really hot on the show. I developed a major girl-crush on her. David had a nice bod and his character was so passionate and protective, which was appealling. But I did not find him physically attractive. Strangely, when he became evil and murderous, he became sexy to me. Weird. James is VERY talented, but I don't find him attractive either. During sex scenes, he convinced me of his sexiness...
@angel64 ...but that was really just about his acting ability. He convinced me of his sexiness and his charisma during the sex scenes. I loved the character of Spike because he was so funny, and James delivered the lines perfectly. Spike is probably my favorite character, second only to Buffy. And of course, I loved the story arc between Spike and Buffy. The unrequited nature of his crush on her built up a lot of sexual tension over the course of the seasons.

David, Sarah and Joss are all Bangal fans. So, if a pair was to get together it would surely be Angel and Buffy. James even said Joss didn't know what to do with Spike's character.

@Aloverssoulz Um... no. Joss has said that Buffy loved Spike and meant it when she said it, and that Sarah was instructed to play it that way. Season 8 comics only make it clear that she loved/loves both Angel and Spike, and there are still no clear indications if she has preference for one over the other. But I guess you'll just ignore it, like you're ignoring all the signs in the series that Buffy had strong feelings for Spike. None are as blind as those who don't want to see...
@nightandday Buffy might think of Spike that way in season 8, but from what i've read so far (I can't get the comics so i'm relying on sites) Buffy and Angel had sex again and he said they can't ever be happy with anyone else. Doesn't seem like she's going to be doing anything with Spike though.

@Aloverssoulz I am probably an odd case since I enjoy all of Buffy's relationships on the show in their own way. They were all well developed stories and important for Buffy's characterization, and it's clear that she always had an emotional connection to the men she was sleeping with (she hardly knew Parker, but she thought they were heading for a relationship). She's not Faith.

@nightandday Buffy was emotionally unstable during season 6. She hated herself for sleeping with Spike, but yet kept doing it. She felt disgusted and ashamed of herself and when she did come to her senses and cut it off with him he tried to rape her. That is not a relationship. That is Spike taking advantage of Buffy weakened state..telling her she belongs in the dark with him.
@Aloverssoulz That's their relationship in a part of S6 in a very simplified and anti-Spike interpretation, but doesn't even begin to describe their overall relationship. How do you explain Buffy's actions in S7? If things are as simple as you think, she would have to be the biggest dope on Earth to want to have anything to do with that guy. And at the end of S6 - she was still willing to trust Spike with Dawn even after the AR (and told Xander that he wouldn't hurt Dawn even without the chip)?

@Aloverssoulz Buffy loved Angel in seasons 1-3. But now? She doesn't even know him and doesn't trust him. She said that much. He doesn't even know her. They've changed so much from the people they used to be, they haven't been in each other's lives for real for years, and even in S 1-3, they never knew each other that well. She tried to remain blind to his dark side, and he has no clue about her dark side. There's no real love there, just fantasy.

In S2, he loved her and knew she loved him back, felt himself worthy of love for the first time, had just helped saved the world from the Judge, and his life was all about her (he didn't have a son, or a job). Now he has plenty of other reasons to be miserable, and I don't think he really believes that things are so great with him and Buffy

Clinging to a romantic fantasy that your first love will be your one true love forever - what a way to protect yourself and remain emotionally closed. But life is what happens when you're busy making other plans.

He was her first love, of course she thought it was true love they would be together forever, that's how a teenager feels about their first love. And when your 1st love is such a disaster and brings you so much pain, you close down emotionally and have problems opening up again. I know, I've been there.
@Aloverssoulz What I find really weird is people bringing up S8 as a proof that B/A are true love. It's all about sex and overblown romantic lines (mostly from him), but they weren't even in their right minds. There's no way that Buffy or Angel would, without the influence of the glow, be indifferent to the world falling apart because of their spacefrakking. If I were a B/A shipper, I'd be devastated by the way their relationship is being destroyed in S8. It's a travesty, a vicious satire.
@Aloverssoulz Taking Buffy's ridiculous OTT and OOC glow-induced behavior ("weirdest, bestest day of my life") as proof of true love for Angel would be like taking Buffy's spell-induced behavior in 'Something Blue' as proof of true love for Spike. She even talks the same way (SB- "Nobody likes him, I don't like him, but I love him"; S8#36 - "I don't trust you, nobody trusts you, but you have my heart"). Except that SB was funny, while Twilight arc is creepy.
@Aloverssoulz It's telling that even in the glow-induced state, Buffy wasn't quite so responsive to Angel's proclamations of soulmates and destiny, and her connection to her friends and family was strong enough to bring her back to reality.I wonder just how much Angel, without the glow, genuinely believes in all that stuff about being destined to be together. I get the impression that even he feels that it's false - or why else would he act so jealous and threatened by Spike's return?

@Aloverssoulz As for Spike and Buffy, I don't think they'll be getting together in S8 and I hope they won't, as 1) they have other things to deal with, like the world falling apart, and 2) they need to deal with some unfinished business first - to talk about why he didn't contact her and why he didn't tell her he was back, and how Buffy felt about it. Whether they will get back together or not, there's S9 for that.

Joss Whedon also said it, and I quote "Buffy fell in love with Spike the moment their hands clasped." don't get me wrong, I love Buffy/Angel's love, and it's true that no other love of Buffy's would ever compare to that as they are soul mates. That doesn't mean that she didn't love Spike.

So my final words on this is, yeah she loved them both as did both of them loved her. However I believe Angel and Buffy will always being in love with one another wherever they get their chance to trully be together. Spike may love Buffy forever although he probably thought that about Dru and yet here we are. I don't think Angel loved anyone until Buffy and yes he may have developed feelings for others, cordy being the main one but his heart and soul will always belong to Buffy

Buffy and Angel or Buffy and spike....mmmm, Buffy loved them both, differently. Her's and Angel was pretty much love at first sight for both of them. Her's and spike was a love that grew from a situation that happened with Buffy coming back from the dead and feeling not quite herself and reaching out to spike cos she couldn't share this with her friends. I'm not a fan of Buffy & spike's relationship by any means but I can understand why others preferred it to the one with Angel but not for me.

But from then on, they act like she only likes girls and everyone seems to forget that she used to fancy Xander and Oz. It didn't really make sense. But yeah, for me, Willow's random change of sexuality didn't really affect the plot. I felt like the majority of the episodes were too serious. Especially season 6 which was just depressing.

She can act nice and sweet, but I believe her real persona is her being aggressive. Loving the fight scenes. And then they didn't conclude it properly with either one of them. It was kind of like when someone calls a tie, I didn't like that.

I'm a Buffy/Spike fan but that doesn't mean I don't adore Buffy/Angel's relationship. I love the show all together, even the worst parts like stupid Riley lol. And, in AtS when Spike and Angel go to find Buffy in season 5 Andrew also says that she loves both of them but she has to move on with her life. So, to some it all up, she loves them both but for very different reasons. Let's all just agree that whatever happened, it was the best show ever and Joss Whedon is a genius :)

I never liked Angel. Even Buffy told him that he was "evil before he was turned", unlike Spike. And how about that last night before a big battle, after Buffy gets kicked out. No Angel then! Just Spike, who finds her and holds her all night--no sex. Afterward, he says, it was "the best night of my life".

@SydneyFifeify She actually spent the 3 last nights before the battle with Spike, the first one was before the fight with Caleb, which he said was the best night in his life. After Angel brought the amulet and Buffy gave it to Spike, B & S the next night together (we see them lying dressed in bed), when she was visited by the First (who referred to Spike as her "dead lover"). After she had come up with the plan for the battle, she went to Spike to spend the last night with him...

@nightandday Thx for clearing that up! I'm GLAD they did enjoy themselves after all. I guess I was more struck by Spike's ability to just hold Buffy and appreciate who she is (like that great speech he gives her when he finds her). Angel was too preoccupied with his image to do that. Even as she fights Caleb for her life, he's worried about what Spike is doing there! -UGH.

@SydneyFifeify ... That was the 'fade-to-black' scene. It's not clear whether they had sex that last night or not. Joss said in the DVD commentary: "And that's one where I wanted the audience to fill in the blanks. I wanted them – I wanted whatever you want to have happened, to have happened. If people believe that on their last night together they made love, great! If they believe that on their last night together they talked all night, great! If they believe that they had a fight, great!"

No offence to Angel fans but I really find Angel too whiny. >.> I didn't think so at first but after rewatching the series he really started to get on my nervs. I don't like the too soft vampires. I rather have Spike who keeps to his bad ass personality even after falling for Buffy. Plus when Angel loses his soul he's a real vampire, his soul was a curse. Spike actually chose for it himself.

I don't get how you can say Spike is badass and Angel is whiny when all Spike did between seasons 4 - 7 was whine and moan. Season 4 he was complaining about the clip and seasons 5-6 he was complaining about his feelings for Buffy and in season 7 he was complaining about his new soul and him killing people.
Angel on the other hand stopped being whiny when he moved to LA and became more cold hearted (killing certain humans) and funny (making Angelus like wise cracks in fights) at the same time.

@TVfreakje1 I've been saying mostly that all along. Angel really IS so whiny, they actually make fun of it on his own show CONSTANTLY. It's a running joke! I did always prefer Spike, though he got rather clingy during his obsession w/Buffy. As some claimed, Spike didn't "make her" be bad. She chose that type of activity (the rough sex, etc.). I think THAT'S what she couldn't live with--that it came from inside her, not forced by Spike or anyone else. Spike knew this, unlike Angel.

Bangel fans are probably going jump on me, but if you watch "Chosen" again, Buffy just says she sometimes thinks about the future. She doesn't say she thinks about the future and Angel is in it. At that point in her life, she's not thinking about it because she has to figure out herself first (cookie dough speech). But, that's doesn't mean she didn't love Angel. She did. But she also loved Spike. Joss Whedon has even said so himself. Both were just different kinds of love.

Never cared much for Angel. I never thought DB was attractive. Just not my type. I didn't think JM was attractive either, although I thought he was hot in the '80s flashback in Fool for Love. Love the make up and spikes. But B/A left me cold and bored. B/S was hot, lots of passion and rough sex. It was hot enough to make me think both JM and SMG were kind of sexy.

@angel64 Sarah's the only one I thought was really hot on the show. I developed a major girl-crush on her. David had a nice bod and his character was so passionate and protective, which was appealling. But I did not find him physically attractive. Strangely, when he became evil and murderous, he became sexy to me. Weird. James is VERY talented, but I don't find him attractive either. During sex scenes, he convinced me of his sexiness...

@angel64 ...but that was really just about his acting ability. He convinced me of his sexiness and his charisma during the sex scenes. I loved the character of Spike because he was so funny, and James delivered the lines perfectly. Spike is probably my favorite character, second only to Buffy. And of course, I loved the story arc between Spike and Buffy. The unrequited nature of his crush on her built up a lot of sexual tension over the course of the seasons.

He really started "smokin'" when he was on that stakeout w/Buffy and asked if she liked The Ramones. YEAH! I love Buffy's later ref that Billy Idol stole his "look" from Spike! (Though she doesn't finish it). Spike just rules.

@AmargoDesperado Respect other peoples ships? There's nothing between spike and Buffy. Buffy used and abused Spike in season 6. It was all lust, no love. They became friends in season 7 near the end and Buffy said she loved him as he was burning up to which he said "no you don't" because it was true, she didn't. David, Sarah and Joss are all Bangal fans. So, if a pair was to get together it would surely be Angel and Buffy. James even said Joss didn't know what to do with Spike's character.

@Aloverssoulz Um... no. Joss has said that Buffy loved Spike and meant it when she said it, and that Sarah was instructed to play it that way. Season 8 comics only make it clear that she loved/loves both Angel and Spike, and there are still no clear indications if she has preference for one over the other. But I guess you'll just ignore it, like you're ignoring all the signs in the series that Buffy had strong feelings for Spike. None are as blind as those who don't want to see...

@nightandday Buffy might think of Spike that way in season 8, but from what i've read so far (I can't get the comics so i'm relying on sites) Buffy and Angel had sex again and he said they can't ever be happy with anyone else. Doesn't seem like she's going to be doing anything with Spike though.
All Buffy and Spike were on the show were eachothers booty calls. It wasn't till the last parts of season 7 did Buffy even think of Spike as more than a friend.

You must have a very different definition of "just friend" than I do. LOL And saying that they were just "each other's booty calls", you really have to be watching the show through a very skewed perspective to be able to see it that way. It's on par with people saying that B/A was just a teenage crush.

@Aloverssoulz I am probably an odd case since I enjoy all of Buffy's relationships on the show in their own way. They were all well developed stories and important for Buffy's characterization, and it's clear that she always had an emotional connection to the men she was sleeping with (she hardly knew Parker, but she thought they were heading for a relationship). She's not Faith.

@Aloverssoulz If she had just needed a booty call in S6, she could've goneto the Bronze and picked up some hot human guy for a one night stand. That's what Faith would do. But instead it had to be Spike, who was really the *least* convenient choice possible - an old enemy turned ally/friend, soulless vampire who could kill, bite, hurt her (she slept with him after she learned his chip wasn't working) and who she was deeply ashamed of being attracted to. Obviously there is sth more going on here

@nightandday Buffy was emotionally unstable during season 6. She hated herself for sleeping with Spike, but yet kept doing it. She felt disgusted and ashamed of herself and when she did come to her senses and cut it off with him he tried to rape her. That is not a relationship. That is Spike taking advantage of Buffy weakened state..telling her she belongs in the dark with him.

@Aloverssoulz That's their relationship in a part of S6 in a very simplified and anti-Spike interpretation, but doesn't even begin to describe their overall relationship. How do you explain Buffy's actions in S7? If things are as simple as you think, she would have to be the biggest dope on Earth to want to have anything to do with that guy. And at the end of S6 - she was still willing to trust Spike with Dawn even after the AR (and told Xander that he wouldn't hurt Dawn even without the chip)?

@nightandday In season 7 Buffy forgave Spike because he now had a soul. Just like how she forgave Angel for killing Jenny when he was souless.
She knew Spike liked Dawn which is why she had her go to him, but that doesn't mean Buffy had any loving feelings for Spike at all at that point.

The point is, there was and is a lot stronger and deeper connection between Buffy and Spike than what you or some others would like to admit. As seen in the fact that they were able to be so close in S7 after all the crap they'd put each other through before.

It is quite amusing when people first claim that there was nothing between Buffy and Spike except lust... and in the next breath, that she only loved him "as a friend"(?!) Then she has sexual fantasies about him in the comics, and it's back to "oh, it's just lust"! LMAO

@nightandday Yes, they were close at the end of season 7, but not as close as Buffy was with Angel up untill the break up in season 3. Yeah, Spike and Buffy had a close relationship. She relied on him to be her second in command along side Willow, but even though Buffy has sex dreams of him and Angel now I still don't see how she loves him as much as she loves Angel or how it's anything more than lust. If they get back together in season 8, i'll take what I said back.

@Aloverssoulz Buffy loved Angel in seasons 1-3. But now? She doesn't even know him and doesn't trust him. She said that much. He doesn't even know her. They've changed so much from the people they used to be, they haven't been in each other's lives for real for years, and even in S 1-3, they never knew each other that well. She tried to remain blind to his dark side, and he has no clue about her dark side. There's no real love there, just fantasy.

Buffy stated in season 7 that she never loved anyone more than she loved Angel.

@Aloverssoulz And I think Buffy and Angel can now have as much sex as they like without him losing his soul... because he is not going to be perfectly happy. In S2, he loved her and knew she loved him back, felt himself worthy of love for the first time, had just helped saved the world from the Judge, and his life was all about her (he didn't have a son, or a job). Now he has plenty of other reasons to be miserable, and I don't think he really believes that things are so great with him and Buffy

@Aloverssoulz She actually said (before she even started admitting to herself that she COULD love Spike) she loved Angel more than she WILL ever love anyone, which confirms what I said before, she had convinced herself that she could/should not love anyone like that again. Clinging to a romantic fantasy that your first love will be your one true love forever - what a way to protect yourself and remain emotionally closed. But life is what happens when you're busy making other plans.

Pretty much sums up Angel/Buffy.

@Aloverssoulz B/A was always largely about sex - all that sex that they WEREN'T able to have. And then it became this overblown fantasy that they clung to in order not to face up real life. He was her first love, of course she thought it was true love they would be together forever, that's how a teenager feels about their first love. And when your 1st love is such a disaster and brings you so much pain, you close down emotionally and have problems opening up again. I know, I've been there.

@Aloverssoulz What I find really weird is people bringing up S8 as a proof that B/A are true love. It's all about sex and overblown romantic lines (mostly from him), but they weren't even in their right minds. There's no way that Buffy or Angel would, without the influence of the glow, be indifferent to the world falling apart because of their spacefrakking. If I were a B/A shipper, I'd be devastated by the way their relationship is being destroyed in S8. It's a travesty, a vicious satire.

@Aloverssoulz Taking Buffy's ridiculous OTT and OOC glow-induced behavior ("weirdest, bestest day of my life") as proof of true love for Angel would be like taking Buffy's spell-induced behavior in 'Something Blue' as proof of true love for Spike. She even talks the same way (SB- "Nobody likes him, I don't like him, but I love him"; S8#36 - "I don't trust you, nobody trusts you, but you have my heart"). Except that SB was funny, while Twilight arc is creepy.

@Aloverssoulz It's telling that even in the glow-induced state, Buffy wasn't quite so responsive to Angel's proclamations of soulmates and destiny, and her connection to her friends and family was strong enough to bring her back to reality.I wonder just how much Angel, without the glow, genuinely believes in all that stuff about being destined to be together. I get the impression that even he feels that it's false - or why else would he act so jealous and threatened by Spike's return?

@Aloverssoulz As for Spike and Buffy, I don't think they'll be getting together in S8 and I hope they won't, as 1) they have other things to deal with, like the world falling apart, and 2) they need to deal with some unfinished business first - to talk about why he didn't contact her and why he didn't tell her he was back, and how Buffy felt about it. Whether they will get back together or not, there's S9 for that.

Joss Whedon also said it, and I quote "Buffy fell in love with Spike the moment their hands clasped." don't get me wrong, I love Buffy/Angel's love, and it's true that no other love of Buffy's would ever compare to that as they are soul mates. That doesn't mean that she didn't love Spike.
