That music is sad. I sure miss my Guiding Light, every day at 3PM there's nothing to watch. I felt like these people were my friends that I invited into my home every weekday for 28 years. My grandma, who died in 1971 used to listen to it on the radio. My Mom got me hooked on it.
my Grandma listened to GL on radio too, and watched it all through the years...I grew up with GL because of her, as I was little in the 80's and older in the 90's GL became my show too.
Now GL is gone, and I am down south to help my Grandma, who is dying of cancer...
Guiding Lights opening/closing music was always as classy as the show itself...very memorable music, including the 1990's Hold Onto Love....both of the them were the best of all time!
does it contain where the longtime cbs daytime announcer Ken Roberts saying "Stay tuned for body language with host tom kennedy, which follows over most of these cbs stations?"
I wholeheartedly agree with your post below. This theme is a classic and would make a great final curtain for the final episode to air September 18. However, I think this theme came out at the right time when GL was at its best in acting, writing, directing, everything. I just wish former head writer Pam Long was given a chance to return this past year to wrap up this soap to a nice closing. She wrote the best stuff for this show. She was the best writer GL ever had. Where is she now?
Not counting "The Young and the Restless" closing theme, this musical composition was, without question, the best piece for a daytime soap opera. Why oh why did this piece have to be replaced? Also, this show was at its greatest in writing and acting during this time. The show needs Pamela Long to come back as head writer to create juicier stories and to possibly prevent this show from a cancellation in the near future. Please come back, Ms. Long.
This theme was the best. I wish they still used it today. Nothing tops the memories of the show I had during this era and the great opening and closings they had.
This is my all time favorite theme for the show. I wish they still used it today. They always change a good thing. At least Y&R (the #1 soap) has kept their same theme for years.
Hey, some other people converted the audio of "Guiding Light" closing themes from RealPlayer, from the World of Soap Themes, which is no longer accepting new members and new stuff.
Do you think we'll see any new soap operas?

I think Douglas Marland was a very good writer for Guiding Light. Thats when GL won twice for Outstanding Dramatic Series in 1980 and in 1982.

Although they probably won't use it, I think this tune (the way it is arranged here) would be very appropriate for the final episode.

Pick the Soap opera or an Animated TV series you want and we'll put on the air on SOAPnet for you.

When my eldest was little this ending would put her to sleep. LOL! When she heard Reva's voice she would stop crying.

This is a great theme, I'm afraid nothing is better than "Hang on to Love."

Another fake closing credit sequence from glsoap52. In the original (real) version, the background as animated, not a still.

This theme is so romantic and it has a sense of timeless quality 25 years after it was composed.
newsoul 4 years ago 3
I would agree...this is the most ROMANTIC theme ever composed!!!!

In my Opinion, this is probably the most romantic "GL" theme ever composed.

These are homemade credits. The actual credits in 1984 had a moving background, not the still used here. Nice try, though.

I agree with you jmsweat--the powers that be should have kept this as the theme song.
