Regiments in the British Army have 'Colours' which are basically the flags of an individual regiment. In the heat of battle, a soldier could look around for his 'colours' and re-join his unit. The flags are sacred to their regiments and they get to parade them infront of the queen on her birthday, hence - Trooping the Colour.
Indeed, not to be confused with my own birthday parade!

The mounted band of the household cavalry. Both Lifegaurds and blues & royals in this parade I think.
