I watched this video with out flash using the html5 video player ( &html5=1 on the end of the url, it wil work for videos that are already converted) and blocking flash from auto loading increased browser stability over 600%
Flash at this site hardly ever manages to run videos without crashing the entire Windows OS.
The usual spam-help says the usual - update drivers, reinstall, use latest blah blah. Yeah, they were the latest back when they crashed then too.
At the end of the day - ANY application should NEVER be able to crash an operating system. It shouldn't occupy the same RAM that the OS uses to run in.
So even the shittest real software shouldn't be able to crash a computers OS.
@Shayd93 - Flash shouldn't be able to crash a browser even. It's just a way of packing audio-video data & displaying it inside a browser - on HTML-only webpages ages ago, it's not that different to the embedded video players that were inserted into webpages with mere html tags and the name of the file to be played, and any parameters (ie - usual HTML web coding).
It shouldn't affect the browser, even if the data is gardbled - it should merely not play in the embedded player then.
@Shayd93 - sadly I can't afford to be an Apple fan. But I did use them long before Windows 3.1 (which I also still have) was out.
But even if I had a Mac - how does it change the facts of what I wrote? You don't seem to care about computers being done right, so why be involved in them then.
lol as soon as steve jobs said "flash is outdated" every mac users is saying that...but then again I bet Flash will soon beable to create html5 files as well :P
and MY GOD...GEZUZ...Did you see that. all the crashing my GOD steve jobs was right again (just like how he said there's no death grip on the iphone)...SO MANY CRASHES.
@MrMarkehh - I haven't bothered with it recently, but when I last tried using it on Ubuntu - yep, Flash crashed my computer there too.
I couildn't believe it hung up a Linux OS too, I thought they'd be more solid. It's as if the Flash content is using memory that the Operating System runs in, which should be protected.
Similar happens with some software - it looks like they can't use memory management properly, probably because many coders thesedays use languages that do that automatically.
I am all for progress and moving forward. Gay marriage and what not. But I do feel that it's necessary to point out that Flash wasn't originally supported for any Apple OS. It was later adapted. And doesn't anyone feel that Jobs is using his power to convince people who really don't understand? And why does it really only seem to be Mac users whining? Let's face it, HTML5 is good. Flashy might be buggy, but it's no need to go all Nazi on the poor platform. WebM is something to look at.
Interesting as I get the lollipop of death 3/5 times I view flash content. In fact I found your video when searching google for solutions. Happens both in safari and firefox. The error reports all point to Flash.
Funny. Hey another issue is how Flash uses 5837% of my CPU. I mean it reaches right out of the screen and sucks power from all my neighbors computers too! Drains 'em, slows 'em, makes the freeway get backed up and floods my toilet too! har de har
Truth is, I can run Activity monitor and compare a page with Flash off and Flash on and see about 5% difference in CPU usage. And my computer is about 3 years old. Flash really isn't a burden on a recent Mac.
@aceofducks If I run a few flash videos or games it maxes out my macbook pro. That is simply pathetic. Now when you do that on a mobile device just downright wrong.
@timg455 If you mean that certain videos and games are a problem, it seems like the problem is with the game or video, not with Flash.
If you mean that you are running more than one video or game at a time, it seems like you are purposely trying to cause a problem.
If any Flash is a problem, I would guess your computer is quite old or has a problem, you haven't updated Flash in a while, or you're having browser trouble.
Browsers often leak memory. Restart and keep fewer tabs open. That helps.
@aceofducks You are telling me I'm not supposed to have more than one video open at a time. I am not purposely trying to cause a problem, and you know what even if I was it's irrelevant to the issue at hand. I said I had a macbook pro it's not old, so keep up if you want to competently reply.
See you are telling me I need to restart my computer and only have a few tabs open. However I only need to restart and only have a few tabs open when it comes to flash! Flash is slow end of story.
@timg455 Videos are large files. Whether you are playing an online video with Flash player or the Quicktime browser plug-in or HTML 5 video, it is going to put more strain on your computer. Running several videos at once is likely to cause a problem. You can't compare this with having several tabs without video. Text and images are much easier than video.
A laptop's memory, graphics card, CPU, hard drive are small and slow compared to desktop computers. Connection speed could be a problem too.
I was trying to watch this totally awesome video on my Mac but it keeps crashing because YouTube is all Flash. :---( Oh wait... YouTube has never crashed on me. Nice video!
@TheRobin1232 heh heh recently read an article where flash crashed on mobile devices twice. the developers blamed it on it being in beta, so they said its expected, but it sure isnt good press for them.
not necessarily flash that makes it crash. Apple never really liked flash, i wouldnt be surprised it they intentionally made flash work bad on their computers.
I get your point, but I think in terms of reliability its relatively low. It may be above 90% or even 95%, but that would be 1 in 20 would have a problem. Just this morning flash crashed on me and it was a youtube video. More than any other reason of my browser crashing it's due to flash, and programs in general it's due to flash. For me it's just a fact that flash is unstable.
Regardless I think you used too few examples for a real analysis. I would say do 4-8 hours of testing.
@timg455 I think the point was made quite well. I had a Macbook Pro for 3 years and I can't remember a single time when my browser crashed because of Flash. I'm a web designer, so I scour the web looking for inspiration on a daily basis. I came across a lot of Flash.
@ChooseOrBeChosen The point was not made well. That wasn't a good amount of sampling. You show me your 3 years of web browsing on flash with no crashing and that is a well made point. A 10 minute video is not. I come across flash a lot and it's a guarantee that every week my browser will crash, because of flash. Flash is shit and jobs is doing the right thing.
And every one who is applauding this video is 100% windows user. & tell you what, iTunes is the best piece of software on windows.if it crashes, it is because windows 7 is crappy OS. Now how does that feel?
@yasir25119918 iTunes is a great example of Apple hypocrisy. It's written on Carbon yet they've been harping on Adobe for being slow to adopt Cocoa. It's their break into the PC marketplace yet they won't let shit in their marketplace to jeopardize their lockdown control on royalties (ie all the free content you could get for the Flash Player and AIR.) It uses non-standard shitty Mac candy-ass buttons, even though they harp on apps not conforming to their standards on their system.
You're getting annoying. Every mac user knows that Flash performs horribly as compared in windows. It' wont crash every time but 90 % of safari crashes related to to flash. To say otherwise is a complete BS. Youtube video stutters in full screen mode & overall experience is horrible.
Apple is not restricting Flash from its mac platform but only from its iPhone platform.
Flash for the most part works fine on the mac but when it does go wrong it goes wrong in a bad way... Also it does use more CPU since not all Mac's have access to hardware acceleration in flash.
Apple fanboys will not believe their eyes .. steve Jobs said it is bad then it is bad .. he is the holy steve jobs .. what he says is facts .. the unvierse should change itself to meet steve's thoughts !!
fuck apple, they have taken over everyone's lives with their proprietary bullshit. Soon you wont be able to take a dump in your toilet without first downloading, upgrading and logging into Apple Itunes and paying a fee.
Let me guess, before Steve Jobs said Flash sucks you didn't had any problems with it, and now suddenly you're convinced that it suck although you didn't had any problems with it.

Flash player crashes due to the following reasons:
Corrupted Flash Player.
Corrupted Windows Registry.
Outdated drivers.
Infected System.
Use a system utility software like RegInOut to fix this problem

Flash is fail over-all, flash is an extensive high resource using, and they can't even support Linux properly.
It runs best on Mac, on Windows it's known to lag.
It's not Steve Job's fault, its Adobe's fault.
