@Curlytwins1993 It's an early version of the song. Look up the BBC version of it. They always have really different takes on their songs; sometimes they're better, sometimes they're not. But they're all awesome.
I don't really understand why people think animal collective is so strange. Their songs may not be conventional, but i think they're really satisfying and pretty. I dunno. Some nice ass vocal harmonies and a cool ass backing loop. soundz grood
At first you just stop caring about other people's straight, preconcious and stupid mind. The next step you are more focused on you and that's when you see the beauty, the things that make you YOU. And to love that is freedom, the world is yours.
There's musical potential everywhere, we got to question ourselves, why are we here? It's food for our soul, let's expand the possibilities, let's expand our mind
I love how AC makes their music. Basing a sound around a feeling, then blowing it up into something beautiful.
Three kids walking around with a grocery cart... lyrics like "am I really all the things that are outside of me"
This song is about being perceived by the external, and how people don't appreciate what they have, because they think without their STUFF they are nothing.
Some people are too concerned with what's fashionable while others are just happy they get to fucking eat again.
and on the other hand, the naivety and absurdity of trying to present a false image, or contrived image, to the other/external...because the other is ultimately the self. "I" really am all the things that are outside of me.
I remember once a comment on a AC video that stated, they're just kids who piss around on synths, sampling stuff... well, I certainly hope the person who made that comment has seen this video, because this is sheer brilliance.
@cullen1298 ok, first of all, this video isnt the best example of sheer brilliance, and second of al, they didnt even use synths heavily till like MPP so that guy is a jackass who doesnt know the band

Ugh, your ignorance is showing. It was not pointless. Mozart was just an example of someone who combined all aspects of music into compositions that awed audiences of his time. Stevie Wonder is another example of a genius. First record at 12, 30+ hits, countless songs of his covered by other bands... That is a musical genius. Putting awkward noises together and grunting is NOT. Again, I will point out that if you like them, you like them. Thats not for me to decide. But they are not "geniuses."
Look some people wouldn't agree with you that stevie wonder is a genius, especially if they don't like the guy. AC songs bring you to a different place and make you feel amazing. They make people feel something like stevie does. Maybe not geniuses but above the rest, like stevie. Who gave you this great power to determine whos a genuis and whos not?
A genius in a field is someone highly regarded as excellent in their particular practice. Einstein and Newton are both genius is science/physics. Although I doubt you'll argue that, it is the internet, so if you want you can take your best shot... But all the criteria I listed last post was just examples of why Wonder excels in the area of songwriting/performing music. That is why he is a genius, not because "I say so..." I'm not just talking out of my ass.
hey man, good luck criticizing a band on a string of posts underneath a video of them playing. People are going to argue with you because they are digging this band, and see someone knocking the band. You don't have to fight this fight, what's the point? Who knows? By the way a BAND can't be a genius. Only a person can be a genius. Unless they ALL are geniuses, and can INTERACT with a GENIUS COLLABERATION (blah blah blah....)
My whole point wasn't to say they suck and everyone who listens to them listens to shit yada yada yada. I was saying that genius gets thrown around way to often just because a band is different. Its ridiculous. I love the strokes, but they're extremely simple and catchy. I wouldn't call them geniuses either.
I guess I should take my own advice in this instance (i.e. "what's the point?")
you should try re-reading my last post without assuming that I am trying to stand on a soapbox or something.. I was just trying to articulate the futility (however justified) of calling a band NOT genius(es) in a comment string on their video.
ps this is also a pretty bad example of what they do
What are you talking about? You don't think they are above the rest? So they're below lady gaga, nickleback? fall out boy? beyonce? britney spears? rapper? chris brown? rhianna? Fucking right they're above the rest
I wasn't a big fan at first...kinda put it in a tab and let it run, but i stopped what i was doing and found myself completely sucked in. Wow. Cool :)
You dont have to make rules for something that doesnt define them. For example, this take away show might not be like the rest, it doesnt mean its wrong.....
this exelent musicians used a extranger drugs... sure!, i think with is a Crack.....(BASUCO) or a cocktail to metadona+ coke+LSD+Cactus+Hammer Juice+ greenChips+champagne with marmalade
Brilliant stuff that cocktail - thanks for the recepy - try prosecco and strawberry jam instead of the Hammer Juice and the metadona - it adds to the italian flair %-}
uhhh, i just noticed, doesn't this not really follow the take away show norms?
it's edited together (as far as i can remember all of them are done in one take [i might be wrong])
they're using some sampling, although this isn't really a big deal cause i guess they kind of need to since a large portion of their music is sample-based these days.
i dunno, i just thought this is kinda something else, i don't know how i feel about it, but don't get me wrong, i'm really pumped for the new album.
that was prolly a little hard to understand over comments it was clear to me at the time haha uhm what I was trying to express was that Paris has been a place for artists to congregate for centuries I mean I know it's at least been like that since the Romantic era of classical music with Berlioz and I think Chopin was there too so either you can pay no attention to the over saturation of artistic interest in Paris or you think it's overratted but either way it's always been like that
i believe that animal collective creates a type of music that is derived very strictly from indigenous sounds. like a writer ought to recognize his/her antecessors, musicians should do the same. animal collective have yet to express some appreciation for their influences. on their myspace profile, right where it's written "sounds like...", they have this video showing! how pretentious is that?! so going back to our original topic, animal collective is more indigenous than parishian.
I see what you are saying but I was just trying to express the fact that in general Paris's overrattedness has been around forever but it doesn't bother me. Uhm as for the pretentious thing I'd say it's mostly due to the fact that it's a collective that they don't openly show influences they've stated individual influences before but all of them share or more importantly don't share all the same influences and so it's hard for them to state with 100% certainty plus they are noise rooted . . .
why is this sung differently than the studio version? just curious cuz i haven't noticed other AC videos that do that. i like both sounds though :]

Think about what the term "sounds like" means.
if a band has a link in their "sounds like" section to what they sound like. It's not pretentious to me.
and if that's not enough for you Noah Lennox Aka Panda Bear listed a large number of his influences on the inside cover of his album Person Pitch.
