  • my Shih Tzu has started to do this and she has enlarged heart due to a bad valve.... Vet has her on Vetmedin and Fortecor...which are causing an irregular heart beat. My dog screams before passing out...Horrible thing to happen to a pet...Syncope is a good bet

  • It may not be a sleeping disorder.. My dog does that too, get her checked for an enlarged heart, looks like syncope. Causes of it are; Heart diseases, Heart tumour, Emotional stress, Excitement, Low concentration of glucose, calcium, sodium in blood, Diseases leading to thickening of blood and Use of certain drugs.

  • Your dog has narcolepsy. Does this happen when she gets excited?? Like meal times? Looks like narcolepsy to me. I am not a vet.

  • it could be narcolepsy?

  • Sorry but I have not gotten a definative diagnosis as of yet. I have been to 3 different vets now and none can say what the problem is. We have at first thought it was symptom caused by bordatella cause she was hving nasal discharges and coughing and sneezing. After 2 months of 2 types of antibiotics i am sure it is not that. Now we think it might be a foxtail in her nasal passage that has abscesed . Next is to knock her out and put a scope up her nose but she is real old so i dont know...

  • Was your Gidget diagnosed with a sleeping disorder??? My puppy seems to be doing this exact thing, and it is baffling my Vet! Does Gidget have any other symptoms???
