@98smithg Just because people have done something for a long time, it doesnt necessarily mean its right. Before the abolition of slavery, your argument was one of the ways people defended it. Dramatic comparison, but you get my point?
Awesome song, and its really applicable anywhere in the world. Whether its fox hunting in England, or that unbelievably cruel seal hunt here in Canada. You know our Governor General gutted a seal and ate its raw heart? Representative of the Queen my Ass.
I don't like marginilzation or animal cruelty, but have you never heard the adage, "you can catch more flies with honey than vinegar?" Your anger will only put off those you seek to speak to.
@killerqueen501 When does he say that about all 'countrysiders'? He's a country boy himself, hes just making a snide comment at hunting folk, the smallest minority of countrysiders.
So Frank says it like it is>>>thats awesome. Great 5***** !! Maybe one day they will understand and respect our innocent animals. We have to keep on spreading the word. c'mon ppl..............

so hes from winchester or the countryside as hes says in the start of his song and now lives in london......
so hes moaning about the people from london moveing to the country and lisening to the archers as he puts it.. but its ok for him to move to london from the countery???? im from london and had to move out because the place im from became fashionable i would love to get a house but people like this comeing down trying to be trendy push'ed me out he should go back to the country...
Mate, the song is a cover. He didn't write it, he isn't moaning. Secondly, people have always moved from rural areas to cities to get work, that's how cities become big cities. It's something you've got to deal with. Fox hunting isn't.
You have to remember that the point of this song is fox hunting, not the people moving to the country. Chris T-T, I believe, was jsut highlighting how the people who take part in the 'sport' aren't proper country folk, and actually make life harder for them.
@tomthegd I would say the point of the song is the destruction of rural communities by successive governments with the fox hunting being more of an aside
he is a lovely bloke and writes with such conviction, when he started touring he had no money at all and had no idea if he would 'make it', i couldnt care if he was born with a silver cock in his mouth, he is amazing! Judge him on his music not background, though i do get what you mean. Fucking James Blunt lol!

yeah, eloquent argument there for fox hunting :) really helping your side, maybe daddy's money didnt pay for a good enough school? maybe he should demand his money back? or maybe just dress you as a fox on the next hunt?
I love this song, especially with the emotion put into it by Frank. But i can't say i agree with many of the viewpoints. it's hard to take any of them seriously when such outlandish statements are made as pointed out. But a song is a song :-)
Firstly, Frank Turner did not write this song, Chris TT did.
Secondly, it isn't a problem with foxhunters, it's the countryside alliance who only cared about the ban on fox hunting, rather than issues such as local post offices closing and rural homes becoming ridiculously expensive, when this was what they were surposed to stand up against.
fox hunters and the country side alliance are one in the same. They don't care about house prices, pest control, culling, the miners strike etc because they are not the "country people born and bread" they are elitist scum who feel the need to re-affirm their importance by throwing there wealth at torturing foxes.
working class blood sports such as cock and dog fighting or badger baiting went with little fuss because they weren't romanticized through connections to land ownership and wealth.
you fuckin yuppy's live in a different world it's you lot that are the ignorant twats!, and hitting on the cheap shots that are benefits and hospitals just shows it, FUCKIN INBREDS!
i take it that your comment was directed at me? firstly. im not a yuppie. secondly, yes i do live in a different world. its also a world that people, probably like yourself, decided to try and change without any knowledge of it what so ever. im ignorant to most peoples needs in the city but i definately dont try and tell them what they should and should not be doing. thanks

this is the very worst example of a protest song. complete load of bollocks sung by someone who really believes he knows what he's on about cos he was "brought up in the country". Go to many hunts did you Frank? well guess what, we're still hunting. more than ever. cant wait till nxt season xx

intelligent comment sergio. thanks for living up to the stereotype of the people id imagine like this song. ps, speak to me like that again and il kill you xx
and i like the song and melody too. but do you realise how completely offensive it is to suggest that someone who goes hunting is the kind of person that sleeps with their daughter ?! there was well over a million people that marched in london and the majority of arrests were hunt sabs. and can you blame us for being angry. people who knew absolutely nothing about hunting tried to take our livelihoods away. did you bother to find out about hunting before you accused me of "fucking my daughter"?
now im confused. you seem to be an intelligent individual and your prepared to regurgitate the same old anti hunt bollocks. you completely hit the nail on the head with the stigma thing. just wish people would bother to really find out about hunting before forming such strong opinions. thanks for being man enough to reply though.
its ok for you but im just pissed off cos i really liked the guy and now iv lost all respect for him! oh well, my favourite singer of all time is Morrissey and if you want to hear the perfect protest song then check out "Meat is Murder". look at us 2 chatting like buddies! we're an example to the world! join hands around the globe no matter what your views are. (apart from the ones that sleep with your daughters. thats just wrong!!)
Oh poor hunters, they're being stigmatized... Ok, here's what I know of modern hunting: it's about people with guns, shooting a defenseless animal, for profit and fun. They have no respect for life or nature. That's all anyone needs to know.
@slendersail have you ever even been to the countryside? your description of the modern hunter truly is a work of genius in its sheer ignorance. wen was the last time you actually did something to benefit the countryside? never? you should be thanking us for preserving our beautiful countryside and its wonderful wildlife.
actually i dont. actually i work hard for a living, have never been in trouble wth the law, have never claimed benefit, have never stayed in hospital, and i dont think that iv cost ths government a penny. i just believe that hunting is right. and believe me when i tell you that i know about every possible alternative. thanks for saying that i sleep with my daughter. makes you a real big man!!
iv done all the things you say, i was just trying to make the point that people who hunt are demonised really unjustly and the average hunt sab has basically contributed fuck all to this country. hope your well.
Again you're making a completly biased and untrue statement just to suit your veiw, my dad works as a doctor and he takes part in sabatoging hunts, would you say he has contributed in your words "fuck all to this country" No I thought not, in short you are wrong and do not have a chance of winning this argument.
i did actually say "the average hunt sab". having spent a lot of time with hunt sabs and been friends with a hunt sab for a long time i can honestly say that your dad, as a fully employed doctor, is not your average sab. cheers.
Anyone who enjoys fox hunting does so because they are sadistic and cruel. They may also find it sexually thrilling as they are in a position of power about to end the life of a living creature. Like murderers and serial killers. Only watching a small living creature being ripped apart alive is not so frowned upon is it?
ur right, tearing foxes apart isnt a livelyhood or career. unless ur a hound i suppose! looking after a hunt kennels is a livelyhood and a career however. and one that still continues. take care.
yeah but surely hounds get paid more as pets :) I know a few people who work in kennels and theyre all volunteers. However im sure there are people who do it as a career. Didn't think about that
would i be a working hound or a pet? think id prefer to be charging over the open countryside than be stuck in a flat in milton keynes!! thanks for your reply conan.
yeah i suppose so... I just think it's kinda ironic that in the inner cities aggressive dogs are becoming a real problem. But out here where dogs are taught to tear animals to shreds, there is no problem atall. Suppose it just depends on their upbringing and owners really
couldnt agree more, it was a stupid comment. but wen someone accuses a father of having sex with there daughter just bacause they believe in hunting then you cant blame me for getting a bit tetchy. and im not an idiot. hope your ok.
the songs called when the huntsman comes a marching... i think its safe to say at this point this its more about fox hunting than the countryside allience.
Great song! Love Frank Turner and this was the song that made me love him. I'm a country boy born and bred, so this really means a lot to me ...
I'm gonna stay away from the discussion about fox hunting because I don't think it's what the song is about. It's about the Country Side Alliance turning their back on regular country folk and the important issues they face to just go on about their sport as if it was all that mattered. 5 stars for Frank for showing it.
Where do the farmers get the money to hire a'skilled marksman'?I agree that you have made some valid points(i was not aware of the importing of foxes)On a seperate, but linked note, the western world seems to be imposing their idea of a ideal world on every country - and we are the worlds laughing stock. Modern Britain has turned into a uptight, over regulated nightmare- killing foxes for culling purposes is nessersary-many,many struggling farmers will agree with that.
What i am saying about my story is-there are other ways,yes-but more humane? No, i shouldn't have forgotten, but then again, most farmers dont care, they wont want it to suffer but also-dont want to spend their life traveling back and fourth to check whether the fox that killed a flock of new born lambs is starving or not. Your obviously a very clever person, we just both have seperate opinions on a particular subject. However, the ban on hunting will not stop the rightful culling on foxes.
If a fox has to be killed (and I disagree that they need culling) there is no better way than a clean shot from a skilled marksman. That way the fox is dead before it even knows what's happening. As for these issues affecting me, I too have lost chickens to a fox but I freely admit it was my fault for not properly fox proofing their run. The fox was merely following its natural instinct.. At least we agree on one thing, Frank Turner is amazing
1 last point, unless you want this to continue. The fox is native to this country, that means we have no right to try and wipe it out just because it occasionally slightly interferes with our way of life..Also the excuse that fox hunting is about population control is a relatively new one.You may not be aware of this but in the 1800s foxhunts actually imported many thousands of foxes from Europe to increase the number of foxes in lowland areas, even though they knew the impact of foxes on livestock
Just to be clear the fun of hunting is purely social-the killing of a fox, thats practical. Seeing as we dont meet eye to eye on the fact that foxes should be culled-im sure you will discard that point. And by affecting you i dont mean a few chickens i mean your job, loosing your young herd for the following year. Thank you for bringing up natural instinct, if animals should be treated as humans-animals kills for food, we kill to protect our food-is this so different?
Yes, it is very different, because humans are the only ones who think up excuses for every mess they choose to make. They make the situation what it is through sheer ignorance of how life works, and then blame the animals for it, and decide to "cull" them.
No, were not talking about Fishing but it seems your missing the point, your arguement is that we do it for fun, yes we do. Many people just enjoy being out and seeing their friends, enjoying themselves and doing some riding cross-country and jumping. Killing a fox is just a bonus. You have some sort of consorted idea that we all gather around and watch a fox die, by doing it this way its quick, it painless- its death get over it.
In the areas where hunting takes place 60% of people support it, and the anti-hunt people are in the minority. So your ethier in the minority or you live in the city and are ignorant. The Countryside Alliance says 16, 000 jobs will be lost. This is not just people who work for the hunts. It is also people who make boots, saddles and work in tourism. Anyone who is made unemployed will not get a new job as the economy is very weak in the countryside. In farming death is taken as a given.

Keep Hunting! Does know one understand that foxes are like grey squirrels...in abundance. this means they need more and more food they get it from farmers cattlestock. This drives up the prices of meat and you townies have to pay more. You then complain and so farmers end up lowering prices, and drowning in debt. Its nothing to do with seeing a fox killed.
This is just typical pro-hunt bs.The price of meat being lowered has nothing to do with foxes,it's supermarkets having price wars.Even the Ministry of Agriculture concedes that the impact of foxes on livestock is negligible.Fox hunting is a sick excuse for a "sport" and a social event; anyone who tells you otherwise is a liar! I've heard every pro-hunt argument before and there are rational come backs to all of them that are backed up by hard facts. Hunting continues. Enforce the ban, sab hunts!
Hunting facts - shooting foxes doesn't always kill foxes outright. They manage to get away - and then suffer a slow painful death. Killing them with dogs can be more humane. 100,000 foxes are shot or snared each year. Only 16,000 foxes are killed by hunts. A foxhound weighs four or five times more than a fox and its powerful jaws kill the fox quickly and cleanly. Fox hunters are being picked on. There is no vote on whether we should ban fishing, is that cruel? Its a sport - for fun.
I had the good fortune of seeing him play in a living room in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania when he was on tour with the Offspring. Just Frank, and his guitar, and a living room full of people. It was simply AMAZING.

@SomecallmeJack dont you get it? fox hunting is our way of life, we are protecting the rights of our poeple to do what they have done for centurys.
98smithg 1 year ago
@98smithg Just because people have done something for a long time, it doesnt necessarily mean its right. Before the abolition of slavery, your argument was one of the ways people defended it. Dramatic comparison, but you get my point?

Awesome song, and its really applicable anywhere in the world. Whether its fox hunting in England, or that unbelievably cruel seal hunt here in Canada. You know our Governor General gutted a seal and ate its raw heart? Representative of the Queen my Ass.

"... and then he smears the blood on his daughter's head... and then he drags her back to bed"
Fair enough fox hunting's out of order... but to suggest all 'countrysiders' are keeping it in the family so to speak is out of order.
killerqueen501 2 years ago
@killerqueen501 When does he say that about all 'countrysiders'? He's a country boy himself, hes just making a snide comment at hunting folk, the smallest minority of countrysiders.

so hes from winchester or the countryside as hes says in the start of his song and now lives in london......
so hes moaning about the people from london moveing to the country and lisening to the archers as he puts it.. but its ok for him to move to london from the countery???? im from london and had to move out because the place im from became fashionable i would love to get a house but people like this comeing down trying to be trendy push'ed me out he should go back to the country...
devonsurf 2 years ago
Mate, the song is a cover. He didn't write it, he isn't moaning. Secondly, people have always moved from rural areas to cities to get work, that's how cities become big cities. It's something you've got to deal with. Fox hunting isn't.
You have to remember that the point of this song is fox hunting, not the people moving to the country. Chris T-T, I believe, was jsut highlighting how the people who take part in the 'sport' aren't proper country folk, and actually make life harder for them.
tomthegd 2 years ago 49
@tomthegd its more about the incompetence of the 'countryside alliance' surely?
TheDubKilla1 8 months ago
@tomthegd I would say the point of the song is the destruction of rural communities by successive governments with the fox hunting being more of an aside

ConcertVid 2 years ago 2
Firstly, Frank Turner did not write this song, Chris TT did.
Secondly, it isn't a problem with foxhunters, it's the countryside alliance who only cared about the ban on fox hunting, rather than issues such as local post offices closing and rural homes becoming ridiculously expensive, when this was what they were surposed to stand up against.
gibsam21 2 years ago 2
Agreed! :)
gibble45 2 years ago
fox hunters and the country side alliance are one in the same. They don't care about house prices, pest control, culling, the miners strike etc because they are not the "country people born and bread" they are elitist scum who feel the need to re-affirm their importance by throwing there wealth at torturing foxes.
working class blood sports such as cock and dog fighting or badger baiting went with little fuss because they weren't romanticized through connections to land ownership and wealth.

and i like the song and melody too. but do you realise how completely offensive it is to suggest that someone who goes hunting is the kind of person that sleeps with their daughter ?! there was well over a million people that marched in london and the majority of arrests were hunt sabs. and can you blame us for being angry. people who knew absolutely nothing about hunting tried to take our livelihoods away. did you bother to find out about hunting before you accused me of "fucking my daughter"?

Anyone who enjoys fox hunting does so because they are sadistic and cruel. They may also find it sexually thrilling as they are in a position of power about to end the life of a living creature. Like murderers and serial killers. Only watching a small living creature being ripped apart alive is not so frowned upon is it?

HotStuff543 2 years ago
But... Frank Turner.
Amazing.
x
HotStuff543 2 years ago
What i am saying about my story is-there are other ways,yes-but more humane? No, i shouldn't have forgotten, but then again, most farmers dont care, they wont want it to suffer but also-dont want to spend their life traveling back and fourth to check whether the fox that killed a flock of new born lambs is starving or not. Your obviously a very clever person, we just both have seperate opinions on a particular subject. However, the ban on hunting will not stop the rightful culling on foxes.
HotStuff543 2 years ago
If a fox has to be killed (and I disagree that they need culling) there is no better way than a clean shot from a skilled marksman. That way the fox is dead before it even knows what's happening. As for these issues affecting me, I too have lost chickens to a fox but I freely admit it was my fault for not properly fox proofing their run. The fox was merely following its natural instinct.. At least we agree on one thing, Frank Turner is amazing
WildTom83 2 years ago
1 last point, unless you want this to continue. The fox is native to this country, that means we have no right to try and wipe it out just because it occasionally slightly interferes with our way of life..Also the excuse that fox hunting is about population control is a relatively new one.You may not be aware of this but in the 1800s foxhunts actually imported many thousands of foxes from Europe to increase the number of foxes in lowland areas, even though they knew the impact of foxes on livestock
WildTom83 2 years ago
Just to be clear the fun of hunting is purely social-the killing of a fox, thats practical. Seeing as we dont meet eye to eye on the fact that foxes should be culled-im sure you will discard that point. And by affecting you i dont mean a few chickens i mean your job, loosing your young herd for the following year. Thank you for bringing up natural instinct, if animals should be treated as humans-animals kills for food, we kill to protect our food-is this so different?
HotStuff543 2 years ago
Yes, it is very different, because humans are the only ones who think up excuses for every mess they choose to make. They make the situation what it is through sheer ignorance of how life works, and then blame the animals for it, and decide to "cull" them.
slendersail 2 years ago 2
No, were not talking about Fishing but it seems your missing the point, your arguement is that we do it for fun, yes we do. Many people just enjoy being out and seeing their friends, enjoying themselves and doing some riding cross-country and jumping. Killing a fox is just a bonus. You have some sort of consorted idea that we all gather around and watch a fox die, by doing it this way its quick, it painless- its death get over it.
HotStuff543 2 years ago
Also...
HotStuff543 2 years ago
Great song! Love it.
When the huntsman comes a marching give him one from me to.
Unfortunately the police are more likely to turn on the sabs even though hunting with dogs has been banned.

HotStuff543 2 years ago
your an idiot and it's spelt no-one.
deadsuperstaralex 2 years ago
Good point. Sorry about that, i will keep that in mind.
HotStuff543 2 years ago
This is just typical pro-hunt bs.The price of meat being lowered has nothing to do with foxes,it's supermarkets having price wars.Even the Ministry of Agriculture concedes that the impact of foxes on livestock is negligible.Fox hunting is a sick excuse for a "sport" and a social event; anyone who tells you otherwise is a liar! I've heard every pro-hunt argument before and there are rational come backs to all of them that are backed up by hard facts. Hunting continues. Enforce the ban, sab hunts!
WildTom83 2 years ago
Hunting facts - shooting foxes doesn't always kill foxes outright. They manage to get away - and then suffer a slow painful death. Killing them with dogs can be more humane. 100,000 foxes are shot or snared each year. Only 16,000 foxes are killed by hunts. A foxhound weighs four or five times more than a fox and its powerful jaws kill the fox quickly and cleanly. Fox hunters are being picked on. There is no vote on whether we should ban fishing, is that cruel? Its a sport - for fun.
HotStuff543 2 years ago
