It is usually safer to burn them down then to attempt to take them apart. Add that to the fire departments ability to get live fire training and hone thier teamwork skills. Or, it could just be because it is fun to watch stuff burn.
@dnirvine easier to clean up, and wat else is there to do in a town of 700 then watch an elevator get burnt down? it was fun to watch and everyone enjoyed it
its a demolition dude, there was no grain in there, and even if it did all grain elevators have insurance its mandatory. im sitting in a grain elevator right now
You have no idea how ridiculously excited i was when i saw this!!
I was with the guys who helped put this fire on. If you remember seeing a crazy overexcited little fire fighter in a black fire coat (and no fire pants) running around taking pics then you saw me :) im so psyched you put this on Youtube im sending this to my facebook so i can show my friends what i was doing this summer ... Thanks so much.

Why was this elevator burned down?
dnirvine 1 year ago
@dnirvine im from here and the reason was that they tore it down to put up a big agronomy building

@307ci Hey... so what was their reasoning for burning it instead of demolishing?

@dnirvine it costs almost more than triple the price to demolish a structure like this
