I think this is fun, but my parents ran this marathon and the live wires I think takes it too far. When they ran it, there were a few dozen people who passed out from the electric shock of the wires. The one in front of my bad it permanently brain damaged... Makes you think if all of that shit is worth it.
@schroedboss - Santa! Glad you got to see the video, you were a riot. I'm also glad to know that you werent cold, you know, being used to the weather and all.... right?
@260stoneridge - You are going to have a blast! I'd imagine its still going to be a bit cold? The course at Badlands is good fun, SO MUCH MUD! I dont think the mud even counted as obstacles on the course, it was just accepted as the terrain in between obstacles lol.
Thanks for posting this. I did the tough mudder on Nov 20th, but couldnt finish it as I broke my ankle at mile 8- but this video shows the toughness of the mudder
I RAN THE 9:40 EVENT!!!!! i was the first one off the starting line and by about a 1/4 mile i was probably running with the 11:00 wave lol but i completed every obstacle and i am now a tough mudder!!! cant wait till March for round 2
@pezdogz83 - I used the GoPro camera with a head strap (which was included) for the first-person shots. The shots where im in the scene i'm holding the cam out and pointing it back at me. The GoPro has a really nice wide angle lense. You can get a sense of the cam and its strap in the scene where im going through the ice in the mystery obstacle.
Excellent video. Thanks for putting it together so quickly after the race. My 7 year old daughter watched it and asked me "Why would you do something like that?" Because I'm a Tough Mudder baby!
@danielmi8 - I love it, that may be the best response yet. I had a very similar experience explaining why to my kids. Funny, they just accept it. But when I'm asked by adults, "why do you do it" that response doesnt hold as much weight as i think it should =)
Tremendous job with this video. Don't know how you found the energy to get it put together and posted so fast; I'm still waiting for the pain in my wrists to go down from Saturday. Sending this link to others to try to convince them for a future Mudder. Or at least let them know what they're in for.
@1975aw - hahaha, yea well i figured people would want to watch it right after the event, not a few weeks after so i got tough and made it happen =). Thanks for sharing!
@FrontlineLLC - Honestly they were each very difficult but in totally different ways. This one obviously had the mud and the cold. NorCal had the Mountain and the elevation (7,500-10,000 ft). NorCal had far less mud (hardly and actually) but that mountain and the constant uphill was SO BRUTAL. Also, the electroshock therapy had a MUCH higher shock. I got hit by 3 in Attica and they were nothin', NorCal left a burn mark.
Great video, quality is the best I've seen for this sort of thing, what camera do you use?
I ran the 9:20 heat on Nov. 20th and damn was all the water cold. And rocks everywhere in my shoes. I was wearing Vibrams so I was afraid if I took them off to remove the rocks I wouldn't get them back on because I was incredibly numb.
@tkenney34 I know right?! I knew I had rocks in my shoes, but was too numb to feel them. They left phantom rocks in my shoes, i still feel like there should be a rock under my foot, but now its just a divit. lol.
@regnurse11 Indeed VERY excited, once my knees heal, and i forget how much it hurts. But making the video makes me forget all the quicker haha. You ladies are nuts!
@YesYouAreIgnorant Yep, 9:40 was our start time, we were near the back of that heat. So later in the video we were folded in with a few of the later heats from 10:00 and 10:20. The only serious stack ups we saw were at that first Mud Slope, the Spider Web, and Twinkle Toes (which we all know was the worst 30 minutes ever waiting to run accross that plank).
@jburke1834 wow... 30 minutes? This was my first mudder so i'm not sure how it goes EVERY time... but i think i'll be pushing for the first/second wave from here on out... I literally ran up to the twinkle toes, waited MAYBE a minute and then had my turn. The only thing we waited for was the bathrooms right before that second tunnel obsticle. But then again... we did ours on Sunday so that could be the difference.
@YesYouAreIgnorant oh man, so many people had a hard time waiting for Twinkle Toes. We were backed up with about 200 people. Only one person could go accross at a time and people were moving very slowly. We had random mudders hugging eachother for body warmth, holding eachothers hands trying to stay warm enough to stay in line. Many, many people came up and just said F it, and either walked around the obstacle or just jumped right into the water and waded accross.
@bernie16wb - Thats what i've found too, though i also found that there are certain obstacles you dont want to arrive at without loads of people, such as Everest, or the Berlin Walls, or Devils Beard. Its a toss up, i found having loads of people around to be more fun than not, with the obvious exception of the wait at Twinkle Toes.
@jburke1834 Devils Beard and Everest I arrived at with like 3 people. Berlin Walls weren't that bad I was able to get them myself. Though I realize this isn't the same for everyone (and isn't an attempt to sound like a super athlete because I'm certainly not).
Devils beard I just used the "get under it then just let it slide across your back as you walk" method. Everest and the Walls could definitely be a problem if there wasn't at least someone else around though.

@bernie16wb - Thanks! I used the GoPro headcam. Its probably a good thing you didnt take those shoes off, we had the same logic you did.
The 12 miles part is debatable i think. The original map said 12, but the actual course may have been less. At the 4 mile marker, it said 6 to go.
jburke1834 3 months ago
@jburke1834 True but they were saying 12 on the day of the race. Who knows, maybe I'll email them to ask.

@YesYouAreIgnorant Sunday always has less people and the earlier the better as far as lines for obstacles go.
