My rochelle vids are from about 1 Year ago...BNSF ran for 3 hours and the last 3 hours was a combination BNSF/UP PARADE!
BNSF Meets are semi-rare at Rochelle, due to the current Single trackage in spots between Savanna and Rochelle. Savanna to Chadwick is still single, but from Chadwick to Milledgeville to Polo is now double, and coming outward from Rochelle toward Polo is double. Single trackage areas still include most of Burke Hill and Big Cut in Carroll County IL.
Thanks! Sadly, Amtrak doesn't pass through Rochelle. Amtrak runs on the BNSF Mendota Subdivision (the Chicago Subdivision splits into the Aurora and Mendota Subdivisions in Aurora.).
I was almost gonna say: Too bad the sun was at your 1-2:00 position, the other side shoulda' been better filmed..." but you woulda' missed the CSX train. Good job!
One of my vid's is of an SD40-2 pulling a west-bound freight outta town. My friends would not have believed my story until I showed them on here. Oh, the SD40-2 pulling the train... that was in the second week of March, 2008.
Man, what an awesome vid!!! I'm thinking the CSX is actually a BNSF train w/ CSX power? Or maybe CSX does have trackage rights here? I watch the Rochelle webcam quite a bit and have never seen a CSX train. I've got to make it to Rochelle some day!!
Thanks! I believe that it was a CSX train. CSX runs a M-CSXPAS freight daily. I'm thinking that this one was the M-PASCSX (Pasco, WA to the CSX Interchange). Rochelle is a very nice location.
Sounds like you had a nice day. Nice catch on the BNSF Del Monte local.
Usually, the UP line sees upwards to 100 per day, while the BNSF sees maybe 40-50. The BNSF sees its slow times and sometimes a single train may not pass in three hours. The UP is usually hopping constantly and maybe 15 will pass in two and a half hours.
cool. Oh, I was there in winter, I had my feet in two feet of snow, and after 15mins, my feet almost froze completely. So we had missed a 5120 North cuz I had to have my feet on the heater in the car, LOL
Wow. Two feet of snow must have sucked. Heh. Snow does make for cool pictures/videos, though. Was it a sunny day?
I remember a similar experience when I was out to see the Canadian Pacific Holiday Train. There was a whole lot of snow and I was practically knee high. The train ended up being an hour late and it was terrible. LOL. We endedd up getting what we came for, though.
Thanks, Tommy! The CSX caught me completely off guard. I saw another photographer aiming his camera the other direction. I turned around and saw a CSX coming my way.

Thanks, Richard!
Usually, there's two CSX trains daily, I believe (M-CSXPAS and M-PASCSX). I'm not 100% sure the times they pass through, though.

The Galena Limited goes through there though. That is only during the fall though, but it is still and Amtrak specialty.

Once I was at Rochelle. 7 BNSF trains went through in like 3 hours! Only 5 on UP!
TommyBNSF 4 years ago
Nice, as well! It's crazy how the BNSF can be busier than the UP sometimes. LOL
