I still say for purely visceral entertainment, the title sequence of the MTV cartoon is my favorite. I also think Spidey MOVED better in that show than in any cartoon or live action version to date. But TSSM was probably the best show over-all of all the Spidey cartoons and probably my 2nd favorite Marvel cartoon ever after the current Avengers cartoon. Too bad TSSM got cancelled, I heard Scorpion & Hobgoblin were going to be in season 3. Hopefully the new one will be at least half as good.

The 90s series is a good show, but its nowhere near as good as the Spectacular Spider-man. I doubt any Spider-man series will be now. The upcoming Ultimate Spider-man may be good in its own way, but it won't be be better, I bet.

This is like the Batman the Animated Series of the family. Its the high standard. The best portrayal. When you compare other Spider-man shows with this, they will fall. That's just what happens.

Spider-man is supposed to be agile and lean, but in the 90s cartoon he looks like a body builder. Not to mention Spidey's hammy moments made him sound ridiculous when he was supposed to sound angry or ready to kill.

Electro and Liz's brother were such a tragic figure, Sandman had a heart, Shocker had honor, even Vulture had justification. The villains learned and became more savvy against Spider-man.

@TGPGamingHD This is obviously going nowhere. I have never felt nostalgia towards my past. If I look back and see a sucky show from my childhood, I realize its a bad show. I look back, and while the 90s Spidey was not bad, it just isn't as good as the Spectacular Spidey.. The latter had faster fights with simplified animation, likable characters, a fun themesong, better writing, and it was just overall a better cartoon.

* Doctor Octopus, in the 90s, looks like a body builder with his bulk, which I find wrong. He should be physically weak, to emphasize his metal arms. That, and whenever Spidey faced 90s Doc, I was always annoyed at how he always shot him in the glasses, even as a child.

* To me, SS was Weisman's high point. His magnum opus, so to speak.

* I felt pity for SS Eddie. He was a good guy, in a tragic situation.

* The 90s had one of the worst characters I have ever seen. Anna Watson. Whenever I saw this hag, she was mean, cruel, and a bitch to poor Peter. She was a horrible, disgusting, annoying old dinosaur, who I wished had killed off.

@TGPGamingHD YMMV. I won't lie, as a child I loved 90s Spider-man. It made me love superheroes in general, and when I heard about this new Spidey, I was unimpressed. By the first episode, I loved it. By the end of the first season, I became a bigger fan of it than of the 90s. The 90s were good, but Spectacular Spider-man was simply more Spectacular.

Sorry, I just hate when people use that word incorrectly unless its funny. Ahem. Looks are everything. Spectacular Spider-man's art design is simple. That way fight scenes are easier to animate. This makes the fights faster and more complex, which I believe is worth the sacrifice. Its like putting gameplay over graphics in a videogame.

It sounds to me like you both dislikes the 90's show for the wrong reasons. Let me point out, Hewy, why your arguments are bad ones.

1) They did show a gun, just never fired it. Why should guns be shown?

2) Really? You want blood in a kids show?

3) Why is that a big deal? He's always muscular, ever Spectacular's is muscular under his clothes due to the Spider bite. Plus, he's a grown man now and it is likely stopping crimes so much is good exercise.

However, you have to be careful saying that this new one is the best. Many nostalgic people will argue that the 90's cartoon is better. On the other side, many people will argue that the movies with Tobey Maguire are better because, well, they're great movies.

I personally like the organic web better than the fake stuff. It makes him more super. But that's just me.

Trust me, the 90's show will always have a special place in our hearts, but this show really is better. Back then they weren't even allowed to show spidey punching people. The animation did take some getting used to, but the writing is a lot better and the stories are a lot edgier. They handled Venom infinitely better than the 90's. I remember it being tied into a whole Dr Strange mess back then. Its a great mature show which, as these fellahs pointed out, respects the source material.

the 90's tv show had all these problems because this show could have been cancelled since by 1994, heavy censorship was being enforced by Fox because certain shows were being banned for excessive violence in some countries (which is stupid), so go to wikipedia to see what else they could not do since it wouldn't fit on this one comment box.
