  • DREAM.!.

  • a bleak day when Hydroptere hit the scene

  • just skip to 4:03

  • Fastest boat in the world. Worlds worst audio.

  • Construction just surfboard with freely rotating sliding surfaces

    xtremeboats.de

  • that helmet is fuckin hilarious!!!

  • Excuse me, however, with the extremeboat.de technology the record is easy to break!

  • @ulbrahe extremeboat.de will never breaks this record, since they run engined boats. This boat has no engine, only sail

  • Holy crap....that thing hauls ass.

  • It ripped the pilot a new ass hole thats for sure! LOL

  • How fast can it go on port tack?

  • thats mad dog

  • how much does something like that cost?

  • Comment removed

  • Very innovative design... They are moving in the right direction with eliminating the healing moment, so that you can make the boat as light as possible.

However, the flip-over was predictable from the design. Problem is that if the short slanted dagger board (which balances the wingsail's force) comes out of the water (due to the nose bouncing off of a wave), the wingsail will take off (it's angle causes it to have an upward component of lift), because there is nothing to hold the boat down

  • yeah, looks real stable.

  • 52 knot boat speed in only 22 knots of wind, damn... that's efficiency! very impressive what this team did

  • yeah kudos to paul larsen here but i mean come on...that isnt really a boat. its a carbon fiber twig with a wing on it. teh french Hydroptere hydrofoil trimaran was capable of these sort of speeds with 4 reefs in teh mainsail! and its 110 ft long, takes about 8 people and is a real emphasis on the "Boat" part of the record breaking.

  • wow, scary

  • hehe love the aero-helmet :)

  • looks like a ruff ride

  • Still can't beat a kiteboarder on $2500 worth of gear.

This sailboat is amazingly efficient, though.

  • Amazing. And I like to think that 7 knots is making pretty good time. That there's still a boat left even when it was constructed as lightly as possible is amazing. Glad you're OK too, 52 knots smacking the water upside down and backwards doesn't seem like a good day

  • Amazing! Congratulations!

  • Congratulations, stunning achievement, you are getting there. The performance and light damage is a tribute to your engineering.

You will have got there when your boat is stable in flight, so that it can jump waves without crashing.

I think you were fortunate not to be injured.

The horizontal stabiliser suggested in a previous comment would not solve the problem unless you can also move the cockpit forward to balance the boat in flight.

Would that compromise your maximum speed significantly?

  • O M !!! amazing good job guys that was incredible. but honestly i like the hydroptere more 2cnd fastest boat

  • Awesome.

Looks like you're getting to the point where you need a horizontal tailplane for horizontal pitch stability to help prevent blow overs with such a high apparent wind.

Obviously at these speeds the streamlined crossbeam with a positive attack angle can generate more lift than the mass of the craft

They helped keep aussie Ken Warby alive whilst other speed contenders flipped backwards.

    But go the 60+knots lads!

  • well done guys, great to see the vindication of your faith in the design, lots more to come!

  • 04:00

  • Well if you are going to crash like that ...at least do it wearing a silly hat!

...I still think your lucky to be walking...but even funnier to watch as time goes by...LOL!

  • You should get him to put a DoO sticker on it, give us some publicity lol

  • my dad malcolm designed sailrocket.. i must say im very proud :D i remember when this boat was a tiny model sailing on lakes in the New Forest, i was about 5.. hope we can go for the outright record!

  • my mates dad designed that boat

  • Well done Larso to you and your team.

    Cheers

    Mick (Sunny Coast)

  • Well done Paul and team, well deserved !

I met you a couple of times at Walvis and admired your dedication.

As a fellow speedsailor, I fully appreciate and commend you for what you've achieved.

Thanks for your support of the kiters' outright speed record claim, this shows you are unbiased, as it should be.

It's exciting times in speedsailing and this type of innovation benefits everyone.

  • Nice BackLoop !!!!

  • I especially like the quote "you wanna fcuk with windsurfers, you need to act like windsurfers - that was freestyle" :D thumbs up mates! but I'm still sticking to my "sailboard" ;)

  • Congratulations from a windsurfer the real impressive thing is the efficiency of your boat. Get your control issues sorted and I reckon that (possibly with a bigger design) you should be able to do 60knots.

Kiters and windsurfers can't so easily scale up.

  • glad you made it out alive. can't wait to see the next run. stay safe!

  • that is very impressive! i agree that the quote "tear a new asshole in speed sailing" may well be the speed sailings quote of 2008. keep up the good work there still seems to be plenty more to come!

  • Nice! No-holding-back seems to cause some damage eh? I was worried about you with that crazy helmet... looks like a good way to wrench your neck! Amazing that you were able to walk away from that wreck... with minimal damage to boat too. I agree that you will better that speed record.

  • Bloody ell,,Spewin,,tear an asshole,,typical Aussie,,good onya mate and to your crew, cant wait for the next run,fly safe now!

  • "tear a new asshole in speed sailing" have to be speed sailings quote of 2008!! M8 I think you just found the limitations of your boat. You might want to consider wearing a shoulder / neck brace like race car drivers wear. doing flips like that at over 50 knts is a whole new game at surviving the 500 metres.

  • That was such bad luck. You can do this chaps, I know you can. You are so nearly there. All the very best.

  • just what we've been waiting for! exhilarating viewing, well worth the wait...look forward to your next run & more records.

hope the repairs are going well.
