They had this game at our daycare when I was a little kid. It was one of my favorites on the Genesis, even though I couldn't get past the second stage. I was enthralled when they put the game in Sonic Gems Collection.
@Tsicar Remember donkey kong country? This was basically a reply to it. I belive they both used the same pixel rendering style or something. If you look at the two, the graphical quality is pretty much the same. However, this game lost out because the levels weren't very exciting to play in.
@TheAndiePerson You got to remember, this is in the 90s and with previous megadrive/genesis games being like sonic the Hedgehog and such, this game just blew their minds. Most people don't really appreciate the past of what gaming has gone through to get where it is today, it's why I hate the younger generation of gamers that are growing up around COD or battlefield because they well never experience a great thrill of upgraded graphics. It's a shame really...
@BlaizeTheDragon Yeah but they will get to experience an upgrade in how the game is played. They're gonna say "Remember the Xbox? You had to play those old games with a controller."
@CrashManEXE Just the "I figured out that I can avoid the balls by sitting in the wings...why couldn't I have figured this out in my last video!" and the comment about the flags and stuff. I dunno, it just added a bit of personal flavour to the gameplay.
both great games 1 is and looks better then 2 tought more graphical tricks.there where plans for a turd part in the make for ps2 tought i wonder ho that turned out :p . a 3rd game in this series would have looked awesome on the genesis when you notice the drive behind these games check the damn graphics out.
This is an awesome game, but the SEGA screen is not just for show.
* Stand near the right side and shoot up -- you'll release a weapon from a TV. Use it, and the background will stop moving while the SEGA logo shorts out.
* Stand under the logo and shoot it 24 times, then jump and hit the bottom of it 12 times -- the letters S-E-G-A will rain down. Get 90-110 letters to start the game on Level 5; get 111-120 to start on Level 10.
(NOTE: Catching letters is harder after shorting-out the logo.)
Heh heh. This was a bonus unlockable in the Sonic Gems collection. However, I decided to import the Japanese version cause this alone wasn't enough of a bonus, unlike the Streets of Rage trilogy =)

This is a gem of the 90's. I remember playing this game for HOURS. I still remember the layout of the first level too.

What irked me is that ONM UK gave this cool game a 68-or-something%, calling it "overhyped".

Overhyped? Where did they get that from? =\
