  • I know it was ages ago since this video was posted, but I'm having climb-up problems which contradict the advice given in this video. I can't do climb-ups properly because I'm always too far away from the wall when I pull & kick. If I'm out, then I kick, how can that make me come back in? Wouldn't I just be going more out, as if I was going to do a 180?

  • @JustElijah

Yeah the video is a poor explanation, perhaps an exaggeration, or maybe just plain way off the mark.

Just get strong at pullups and kick hard with one leg while with the other leg either: a) swing back and up; b) lift the knee hard.

  • @Teghead Ok cool, I'll try that. Cheerio.

  • i find the best way to not hurt urself doing this is by wearing shoes :p but very impressive

  • I am ashamed how long it took me to be able to do climb ups.

  • @arseniy0410 me to bro

  • @arseniy0410 haha same, took me 3 years!

  • omg is that you twin brother doing the catleaps in the background?! :D

nah just kiddin', very helpful tutorial. I just got my straight climbup, and im happy^^

  • Ghost of Teige??? heheh

  • @b2c2552 actually, awesome tips about going out and back in with the kick, fascinating!

  • what u mean u dont rate climb ups

  • ahahahaha...at 2:07 the bricks moved. That shows that you practiced a lot on that wall.Anyway ,this tutorial had a big impact in my climbups.

  • I like that cat!

  • assassin's creed :P

  • Fantastic my friend! thank you!

  • love's teg

    monster the climbs

  • Are you Tiege at parkour generations..?

  • Still a nice and usefull tut, going to put it to the test tomorrow !

  • reminds me of playing Prince of Persia

  • Tiege, why do you claim we should keep our chests up over the wall? I would like you to expand on that.

  • Who knows, this is nearly 3 years ago. And I don't rate climbups anymore.

Perhaps because if you don't get your chest above the wall, your weight will not be over the wall, let alone forwards ready for your legs to kick up..? It's all pretty simple, just go outside, do it, and think about where your weight was.

  • I see. Well I am more comfortable with pulling my chest more into the wall as opposed to keeping it up away... Hmm, i suppose it's all personal preference.

What do you mean you dont rate climb-ups?.

  • be careful that wall looked like it was gonna fall

  • dude! u where in parkour journeys right?

  • Comment removed

  • that was really good youve obvisaly worked on climb ups a lot I can do them but without the pop at the end which Iv noticed i need to work on cheers this is gonna be a fav of mine cheers =D

  • Man...I wish i had places like this to train...i live in south carolina, my mates and I have NOTHING to freerun on...

  • I do also good places to parkour include westgate mall, downtown and dorman fun places

  • Dorman...thats like, 100 miles from me, lol, i live in batesburg... Im actually going to dorman this summer to visit a friend, we should run together :D

  • thks u really helped me alot

  • Nice stuff =D

  • thanks!!!!

  • Awesome vid, thanks man.

  • I want to see one hand climbup :)

  • my mate got those the other day :) not on a completly flat wall though, it had a little lip on top

  • I can do them too but not on flat wall (I need to have lip) :) It's hard on flat wall without lip on top, very very hard... but hey, we don't work enough :)

    One of mine goals....

  • so basically, you're a ninja right?

  • This was great! Climb-ups that fast and without shoes. Amazing!

    Justin"JET" Sheaffer

  • wow really good tutorial man

  • Actually, it isn't. I started training barefoot about two months ago. I try to incorporate it in my training at least once a week. At first I was a bit scared I'd step on glass or something, but after that, I got used to it. Feels pretty cool so far. Helped me get softer landings

  • How come you don't wear shoes?

  • According to David Belle and many other traceurs, training barefoot is the best thing. It improves your technique so that you're not relying so much on your shoes as your own ability/skill.

  • Surely it's painful though...

  • in an emergency you may not have time to stop and put on your shoes. You have to be ready to get up and go.

  • shit!!!!

  • Красава парниша!!!

  • i love it, monkeyman.

  • well on my climbups i go in to the wall a bit like the climbups at 0:14(except not as fast) is that alright should i try and go less in to the wall?

  • when you just started out, I THINK that's fine. just improve on your pull up's explosiveness? but after you get stronger you should aim for this technique shown in the video.

  • It's impossible NOT to go into the wall unless you're very strong, like Teghead here. It takes a lot of conditioning to reach explosive climbups like his.

  • u know the part of a climbup where u kick ur feet up onto the wall. well whenever i try that. Only one leg does it and its like when i do that my other leg is like immobilized and i cant control it. Its really weird and it make it look like kinda awkward.

  • that happened to me just keep practicing it LOADS and it will eventually be more fluid.

  • yea but sometimes it pisses me off and makes me want to cut off that leg

  • haha... that happens to me too.. try bending ur body forward? (gains some "height" for ur 2nd leg to land..)

  • just watched this video again, and noticed at the end the wall was sort of loose. you should stay careful around that part man, but awesome climbups!

    peace and love

    ~btp

  • Dang, and you still haven't even fixed that ricketey wall haha lol!!!

  • dude thanks ima try this this weekend jam

  • good tutorial, I've just started learning climb ups, there were some good tips, thanks!

  • thanks for help :)

  • THIS WAS REALLY GOOD

  • Nicely edited.. Very helpful!

  • So amazing, science. feet is better than shoes.

your better than any other traceur here in the philippines.

    - Philippine Freerunners.

  • hahahahahahahah ticher !!!!!hhhhhhhh

  • i find with doing climbups it's all about how big your hair is.

    AFRO CLIMB-UPS = fast.

    BALDING CLIMB UPS = slow.

    i have a feeling you'll get what i mean.

  • rofl

  • this helped a lot, ive been working on climb ups for a while, i had enough strenght, but i was pulling myself into the wall.

  • teg i really have to thank you. climbup progressed very much. i used to pull my upperbody into the wall. like you sed. now i pull it away from the wall. and its bloody quick;) i had the strenght but not the techniqeu. Thanks alot:)

  • I've watched that video tons of times and i still cant figure out whats wrong... im pretty sure there is something wrong with my technique, i can pull up pretty easily but when i put my entire palm on the wall (to do the deep) i just seem to slide down :S

    any advice?

  • Uhhm, could you show me a video explaining what you mean, I can't visualise it?

  • @FriedStickMan maybe you aren't close enough to the wall then, you want to put your weight over your palms when you switch to them, unless you have super beast lats and can pull in from then.

  • Ha, little kids :)

  • where is that

  • I noticed that like in your videos, if you start with one leg lower and then quickly lift it towards your chest at the same time as your arms it helps a great deal. I also recently discovered that I can get up alot faster if I dont bother going to a straight arm position before I bring my feet to the top of the wall at the end of the climbup. It cuts out an unnecessary step and feels alots smoother.

    Thanks for the visual aids.

    I'm blind.

  • True, I spent ages making sure my arms were straight before kicking my legs up before realising that it's much faster to allow some bend in your arm and press as you flick up rather than waiting about.

It's probably just quicker to sausage roll over the wall sometimes... I'll video it in a couple months.

  • What is Music? It is beautiful!

  • How'd you do that anyway?

  • woahhhh short haired teige:)

  • look well good don't he

  • no shoes O.O nice! thanks for the tutorial!

  • <3 barefoottraining :)

  • really good, hopefully it will help, also just quick, wot editing program did you use to make this?

  • Premiere.

  • Very clear instruction, I"m going to try it tomorrow. Thank"s.

  • Great tutorial; I've just realized I've been doing my climb-ups the wrong way. No wonder they were so hard.

BTW, you're very fast and nimble. That passe muraille to climb up at the end was flawless.

  • sick vid teg but wat are mug??

  • Mug = a cup for tea or coffee

    Or,

    A slang term for a person's face.

  • chrz bro

  • thanks teg this video has really improved my climb ups loads !peace!

  • oi mate, is that Aldershot? Reeves road? Used to play footie there all the time :P

  • Yep haha.

  • This tutorial is awesome man... you should make some more, because you seem to make them very very well........

    :D

    * JaiKane *

  • Give me some suggestions and you've got a deal. :)

  • Hey teg,

I actully find this video quite useful and you should do more tutorial.

  • Thanks largely in part to this tutorial, I recently got my first real, good cat-to-climbup. So, big props to you for making this video! Thank you!

  • Congrats! :)

  • haha, watching the video off the original tape is so funny ;) like 56,000,000 takes and random poeple walking past looking very perplexed. :)

  • I'll perplex you if you're not careful...

    Haaaaww!

  • An outtakes version would be very entertaining...

  • I think I overwrote the footage.. should've thought of that before. :(

  • haha it was, i crapped my pants!!!!!!!

  • you are doing the move that looks so easy, you are very good!

  • thanks for this tutorial. your videos helped me a lot with my climbups. But i really have to work on my 180's.

  • I'm glad that it helped, good luck with your training, just keep practising, and I will too.. :)

  • lol u look just like prince o persia ...nice

  • lol u look just like prince o persia ...nice

  • il est nu pied le type, comment il fait ?

  • (My French is really bad) on peut commencer de petits sauts et marcher simplement.

  • Do you find climbups are easier to do quicker when your're barefoot? I find them better or perhaps that's jus cos my shoes are so mangy!

  • Haha maybe.. I dunno, skin has good grip on some surfaces, like the kind of brick in this area on the vid. I don't really notice a difference in how the climbups feel.. unless it's on a mega slippy surface or something.

  • lies, barefeeet is like super mega easier, u dont slip. tegs blates tellin porkeys

  • omg hes in bea feet god you must have tough skin lol nice video

  • WOW =)

    Realy good tutorial ;)

  • Just realised your movements are pretty silent. Nice tutorial, it helped me a lot.

  • nice

  • that actually helped Teg! the edit on here is shmexy, what equipment did you use?

  • Cheers, just a pretty regular camcorder, and adobe premiere pro. All the editing in there is sooo easy to do, trust me.

  • Idiot? Not at all. Rather, it explains a lot of the technique. Good tutorial.

  • ahah =)

Thx;) I'll try to use it.

  • You're really good at editing videos!

'd like to know wich program u use?

  • Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0

I should start writing this in the video description hahah.

  • No shoes hehe nice. GOOD JOB.

  • Teghead, I love your videos. You are a very skilled traceur. With the bare feet though, I do do running without shoes, but do you think you could make a video about training bare feet? I know a lot of people will start jumping into it without building up to it...maybe just give a minute video and explain somethings you done and are doing for bare feet training please.

  • To be honest with you, I've neglecting training barefoot and have almost totally lost everything I gained from it. I don't consider myself qualified to teach about it yet. Just like I look back on this video now and feel that it is misleading in parts, the "pull away then kick in" is over-exaggerated and just creates confusion..

I may do someday though, thanks. :)

  • We are all progressing. (In a good way hopefully)

what do you mean by "I've neglecting training barefoot and have almost totally lost everything I gained from it. " I got the first part...but how are you losing everything? and what did you have gained from it?

    Thanks again

  • A heightened sense of awareness, and the condition of my feet. My sensitivity and quickness to respond to landings has regressed slightly lately, and the skin of my feet has become quite soft again.

  • wow this was great thanks

  • This was invaluable. Not only is your Parkour impressive, but so is your teaching ability! Straightforward and to the point. Cleared up a lot of confusion for me. Thank you so much.

  • omg no shoes;O

  • Love this tutorial, simple yet effective. I need to work on my 180's as I've spent almost no time with them yet. So I'll be referring to this lots! Hope you're well mate and training hard as always. Take care.

    *B*

  • Very nice, and Bare feet! omg Hardcore!

  • nice! very useful! thnx XD

  • kl tutorial but y bare feet?

  • Strengthens ankle stabilising muscles, strengthens arches in feet, and toughens skin on feet.

  • helps improve control when training with shoes, and if you are into silent running it also gives you plenty of benefits.

  • Great tutorial.

  • Excellent! This is a great tutorial! Thanks

  • thanks for this

  • Nice video. what software do you use to edit?

  • Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0

  • thanks

  • hihi very good

  • nice editing, and thanks for that, my climb-ups are reet bad at the moment. good stuff

  • oh oh also you would make a WELL good blue peter presenter :p

  • ...pffffffffffffffffffffft!

  • and your pFFFTTT ing me son?

  • The fact that you did everything barefoot just puts it over the top. You are a true warrior. Excellent tutorial!

  • Thanks. I learned the technique :D

  • I shall try that not leaning over wall techniqe asap .

  • Such an excellent video!!!

  • great video.I like your skill, and the editing.

  • very good tutorial

  • very nice skill ;]

  • nice. this is gonna help me a lot, thx :D a while ago i did try to kick off with my feet to get both my palms over the edge of the wall, but it looks really slow and ugly. I guess i'll need more practise lol.

  • Good editing. Good advice. Good movements.

    It was crap.

SAY WHHHHHHHHAT. keep it up bledrin.

  • cheers m8, great help :p

  • Aha, details! Nice work, this video. Love the sounds of Parkour, the slap on stone, makes me feel I'm out there doing what I want, training, training, training :) This video has been a good addition to some insights I had on climbups lately. Thanks for the video and have fun training :)

  • very nice tutorial

  • good tutorial

  • i liked it

  • Thanks for that man, hopefully my climbups will improve now :)

  • Not sure but at 2:06-07 it looks like the bricks move under your weight slightly. It may just be the camera but if not have a look just to make sure they don't suddenly fall off and land on your head.

  • They do indeed, I'm aware of it, but thanks anyway.

    :-)

  • 'how d'you do that anywaay?' lol

  • Cool, i like it. Thanks for the tips!

  • this is how it goes down!

  • but... THERES TWO OF YOU!!! D8

    OMGZ!

    thanks for posting! :D

  • hopefully i can stop using my elbows and face on climbups now

  • Hahaha, you had to.

  • ...waiting for more footage of you and that cat soon, it's always so inspiring!...and the movement at 1:48 is creative and looks great! ;-)

  • Hehe I just saw it!Thank you so much for that tutorial Teige! It's really helpful, and the explanation in it is clear and complete, you've done it with your common perfectionism! :-) Even the editing is great, as usual with your vids, and that was good to see the cat again, looks like he's interested in 180's tutorials!Doing all that barefoot looks sick! You've definitely kept your barefoot condition!Everything was really nice! Thanks again!I'll try to work on your advices as soon as possible!

  • The cat! Agian! :P

Thanks for this little tutorial Im sure it will help when I try out some of this stuff.

  • The climb up analysis was REALLY useful to me thanks a lot for posting this.

  • shweet

  • im not amused how u copied my idea. although i did steel ru closeup idea.

  • wickeddd!!!

i noticed the cat again haha, very informative little tutorial, please consider making many more, THANKS BYE.
