  • Uh, Drogba is not a single name. Didier is his first name.

  • HIS NAME IS BRYANT AND HE SOUNDS WHITE DOES THAT MAKE HIM WHITE OR BLACK U BE THE JUDGE

  • Old addage m8's..America is always wrong regardless...its funny how when I was in the states I heard people asking who you going for in the world cup (to other Americans)..Some were saying I'm Mexican so I'm going for Mexico...Others well I'm Italian so Italy... Soccer fans are not known to be sportsmans!! Look at the vid on the right about Racism in European soccer Mr. Gumble and then tell me what you think!

  • White people love wayne brady because he makes Bryant Gumble look like Malcom X.

  • @batman53092 I didn't realize you liked to get wet.

  • drogba is not a single name. what a fucking idiot.

btw, outside of the World Cup, soccer has got a few of those "eccentricities" as well that Gumbel was complaining about from 1:27-1:30. HELLO?! Have you ever heard of the transfer window?

  • would someone PLEASE flush this turd down the toilet already....for Christ's sakes! Of course he loves the World Cup. Where is Willard Scott when we need him the most?

  • White people love Wayne Brady because he makes Bryant Gumbel look like malcome X

  • Erm, The Wave was created by Mexican futbol fans

  • Bryant Gumble is the man!

  • Wise words, who is this?

  • football or soccer for some people , is the best and the oldest sport, the rest are just things ti kill time, and commercials. like the superbowl and basketball. seven games really...

  • LOL... The "Wave" was invented by soccer fans at the 1986 World Cup, Bryant!..

  • Bryant Gumbel should move elsewhere. Apparently he's never actually seen a soccer, uh, futbol match. You know the ones where the fans DON't do the wave? They just riot and kick each others butts. Yep Bryant, your a butt.

  • @weffie007 the wave. oh boy, how original and exciting

  • faaaaaagot

  • If this survives "pending approval"..... Gumbel, keep your snide, elitist passive aggression to yourself. If soccer was worth two buckets of spit, it would be bigger than football here. But no one likes it because it's boring, as are you. =o]

  • Saw this episode tonight. I respect his Respect.

  • It's called the "Mexican Wave"... cause the Mexico 86 World Cup introduced it to the World. So, yeah, they do 'the wave'. But other than that... I agree

  • too bad he's wrong - you can often see the crowds doing the wave in the background. other than that though, i love it

  • I can't believe there are so many people commenting on this video, supporting Gumbel's uneducated statements.

  • In a survey that was conducted a few years ago, 10 cheerleaders were asked the score of the game during the half time, not even 1 knew the exact score of either team. Then they were asked, which team was leading. Majority of them said that their team was leading. None of them turned out to be right as the score was tied at half time. Cheerleaders on playing field are anathema to many of us.

  • Wise words from a man who knows what he is talking about... that's why he is the best at what he does.

  • Respect.

  • Bryant Gumbel for President!!

  • @rowson88 Oh God no.

  • bravo

  • fair play to him,, football or scocer is the best team game in the world .. fact

  • cheerleaders are a bad thing?

  • very nice!!!

  • best of all no cheerleaders??

the best part of the world cup: Democracy/Capitalism beats Communism/Dictatorship

    suck on that north korea

  • @dl8eb - It is not the fault of the North Korean athletes that they come from a totalitarian regime. If you knew anything about NK, you would not say this. Just so that you know, even in South Korea soccer fans were cheering for North Korea to win in spite of the recent torpedo attack by North Korea that killed 46.

  • That piece was nicely done.

Great to hear the contrast between Gumbel's preference of World Cup's narratives and continuous broadcast of games (no television commercial interruptions) versus the story lines created by sports media here in the U.S. with the Brett Favre, college football realignment and LeBron James dramas.

Interesting also to hear the authentic patriotism angle and ambiance of the supporters compared to the somewhat rehashed and trite atmosphere in sports leagues in the U.S.

  • Love it! At least one American who knows what they're talking about.

  • @hitmancoolio Don't fret, its catching on. ;)
