  • This guy knows what hes talking about

  • Thanks very helpful

  • hey supermagnetman

i saw by the comments that you said you have 20 practice real act tests

How do you have so many? I ask because i really need more practice tests

    Thanks

    Sharon

  • just took it and the science section was a bunch a bull lol

  • i like his accent

  • Nice tips.. I'll use them on the upcoming ACT. But I'm not sure about reading the passages, they seem a little too long and can confuse sometimes. I've found out that it's easier to read the last sentence of the passage(because it tells you the main idea of what's going on) then referring to the passage while doing the questions, because most of them will refer you back to the imagine or a chart instead of asking you about the experiment itself.

  • daaing hillbilly!

  • I hope i do well on this test! So nervous! good luck to all that are taking this test!

  • @9681a3 dude same here, i'm aiming for a 30

  • I wasn't going to take the ACT because of the science section, but reading all these comments and seeing the video, I am strongly concidering taking it... however when i am a senior haha :)

  • You are so right! Thanks :)

  • Thank you for this. You bumped me from a 25 in science to a 35 in science.

  • @andrewyaoauatauabaea

You are so welcome. I have been getting replies from my one-on-one students and those in our class and it is always exciting to see students improve their math and science scores improve. Thanks for taking time to let me know.

  • @SuperMagnetMan

Sure, keep up the great work!

  • @andrewyaoauatauabaea holy shit good job

  • I didn't do well on the Math part either, but when you say take 6 minutes for Passage I, 5 minutes for Passage II, and 4 minutes for passage III, I will be left with 20 spare minutes... what am I doing wrong?

  • I need help with an entrance exam for 8th grade. Any tips?????

  • lol at 2:38

  • @darshi48 what is naneedj ?

  • im taking 5 practice act test before the real one.... Is that good practice?

  • LOL at 2:39

  • thank you :)

  • dis man is motivational speaks faster than twista

  • great video.

  • Thank you soo much! Im fearing taking the test because my friend already got a 33, and I always do terrible at standardized tests. I think this should help me a lot though :D

  • @cheesesandwich12 Oh.. My... God.. I wish I could get a 33!!! That would be AMAZING!!!!

  • @DillanReed

Not that exciting. I had a 32, took it again and got a 34. I still got rejected from my top choice college on the early decision.

  • @cjgone2 wow that sucks dude..but you made me feel better over my sucky ass score lol..any tips?

  • @NiiNJABuNNY

Go search up collegeconfidential on google and find their forum. People can give some useful tips if you have specific enough questions or problems.

  • @cjgone2 where did you apply?

  • @dou

USC, UCLA, UC Berkeley, Carnegie Mellon, Georgia Tech, Rice, U of Chicago. Accepted to USC, UCLA, Berkeley (I'm going to Berkeley '15), and G tech. Rejected from Carnegie Mellon, Rice, and UoC.

  • @cjgone2

Berkeley is still a great college! Hope you like it there.

  • @cjgone2 what college did you want?

  • @MOGHULMAN

Carnegie Mellon. I'm in UC Berkeley at the moment though, so I'm not horribly disappointed.

  • There was a kid in my school a few years ago who got a 35. He currently stocks shelves at the local food store. What a waste of space and talent that kid is.

  • I will support anything that will help people learn....

  • your annoying high pitch voice will be reading with me during passages THANK YOU :)

  • so thats 39 questions?

  • @potatoman74

Yeah, I covered that in the first few days it was up - 3 years ago. Once again - there are 3 passages with 5 questions and 3 passages with 6 questions and 1 passage with 7 questions. 15+18 +7 = 40:) Also, the time should be 4 minutes for the 5 Q, 5 minutes for the 6 Q and 6 minutes for the 7Q. That totals 33 minutes and that leaves 2 minutes spare.

    Good luck on the test!

  • You talk really fast hard for people non english speaker to understand all what you say. please slow down a little bit ...thanks

  • @malaya770

I understand, but my strategy is to try to get students started thinking faster because I cannot make the ACT people give you more time and to finish the test you have to be able to go through the test at about the same pace I am presenting it.

  • @SuperMagnetMan That makes no sense. Learning anything new at all whether it be baseball math or martial arts should be taught slowly. Just because you teach fast does not mean people will solve problems fast. You have to teach so everyone can understand or else what is the point. You sound like someone conducting a auction.

  • TeachFIZX - you are correct that there are times when reading the passage is not necessary but it is a lot harder to teach that skill than it is to teach them to read faster. I use rocketreader for a speed reading tool and it works great. Reading a passage is a lot like wearing seat belts - since you don't know when you need them you wear them all the time. In science, i recommend reading the passage all the time. Generally those that do not read the passage top out around 27-28 on science.

  • @SuperMagnetMan What's rocketreader?

  • I have been going over a little bit of ACT practice with my students, and there has been an instance where an entire passage does not need to be read in order to answer the questions. I did not time myself on that passage yet, but the message I gave them was 1.) reading the question to find out what they are looking for and 2.) find out where the answer can be found: The data, or the passage.

  • lol that @gnocob dude is crazy a 35 is freakin good !

  • Can you do guides like this for the other sections? This is a really helpful guide

  • @kpxmofu15 - I could do one on the math but the math is harder to make just a general video on. I will think about it. On our website - allpencilsdown we have some good free resources that do cover all 4 sections with my partner explaining the English and Reading. Back to math - on the site we review the entire test that I go over in this video - every problem. Check it out.

    Thanks

  • you decreased my score from a 35 to a 30. thanks. im not even kidding.

  • @gnocob - not sure you know what you are talking about. I don't doubt that it went down but the first thing i cover in classes is that the science and reading sections traditionally are the most volatile score on the test. It is heavily dependent on the student's perception of the science material presented. I regularly see students who take one test with tons of physics type material on it and they score 28-29 and that student has never had physics. electromagnets.

  • @gnocob Then on the next test they jump to 35 and it turns out that the 2 toughest passages would have been on biology/life sciences. The students were in Bio AP and making As. So they felt much more comfortable on that material than they did on TME and KE and PE passages and

  • @gnocob get over it i doubt this guy could take your score down at all.

  • @gnocob why would you take it again if you made a 35!????

  • thanks man, at 2:41 is funny, they don't wo wowowwo wo at all

  • This is hard :(

    Thank you!

  • Okay, well the first time I watched I improved from a 15 to a 25 (practice ACT). Maybe it's because this video gave me confidence that I knew what to do so I focused more. Maybe I actually remembered what you said. Whatever it is, I hope I will do well tomorrow on my REAL ACT.

  • This was helpful.

  • thank you. your program helped me with my practice test. It increased my score on the science section by 5 pts.

  • Thank you so much for letting me know. I really wanted this to help people understand more about the science part of the ACT test. Good luck in your college selections. If you need further assistance with the ACT you can check out our website - allpencilsdown with the usual com extension

  • this guys rite,..im slow, lol

  • George, There are 40 questions on the Science Reasoning section, not 39. One data set (differing viewpoints) has 7 questions, but 3 data sets (research summaries) have 6 questions, and 3 sets (raw data) have 5 questions. The one-minute less than the number of questions IS a good parameter, but there are only 2 "extra" minutes before time is called.

  • You are correct and I realized this a few days after putting it online but youTube does not have any provision for me to simply update the video and fix that glitch. I am just happy you watched it and it should have been helpful.

  • act tomorow

  • "God: Hidden Science" - Google it!

  • Thanks for the tips. I plan on taking the test again in April. I too ran out of time on the ACT science reasoning section because I was over analyzing the information. And because of the time constraints.

  • lol you could use that wall behind him as a green screen. ACT IN SPAAAAACCEEE!!!

  • I got a 28 and all I do is play xbox live.

  • @TinySofa was it hard ???

  • @TinySofa

I received a 34 on the ACT and I used to play Call of Duty and Halo 3 15 hours a day.

  • @TinySofa this guy is epic

  • Thank you so much! I am thankful to know that there are good teachers that volunteer to reach out students!

  • Wow I didn't realize how simple the science part really was... i took the "practice act" PLAN at my school and my science was the lowest at 21

my other scores were at the 30's so i was pretty disappointed..

i spent too much analyzing i guess and trying to understand the experiment XD

thx this is a super big help :D

  • i got a question

the first time i took the act I was very technical about choosing my answers and I was really nervous. I got a 23 and didn't finish in time. I don't like that score.

I'm taking it again, and I wonder if this time I should relax and just use more intuition and subconcious knowledge? lol especially for the reading and english?

  • this is awsome what your doing sir thank you

  • Comment removed

  • Would you recommend the ACT Black Book? What about the Calculator programs the offer?

  • Yes I would recommend the ACT Blackbook, its kinda different and not very long, but it really worked for me and my friend who both used it to study. I didn't get the calculator programs, so couldn't tell you on that.

  • So freaking hot! I love wild stuff like that especially in bed

  • 33 on science, 32 overall. watching this video gave me a great idea of what the science section is really about, allowing me to improve 4 points on science. so thank you very much for putting this up!

  • thank you

  • You are certainly welcome. I hope you did great on the test.

  • wow good video im 25 and im trying to take the act ive avoided it all these years im going to go for it now i think trying to find some free pre act test classes to take cause im waay behind on all my subjects

  • You should come to my message board to ask more questions about ACT.

For the original author, please visit it and make a contribution! You're doing something beneficial for everyone! :D

  • Science annoys me, one time i get a 31 the next it drops 27 and i have no clue why

  • They curve the scores differently (pretty much) every time to make up for harder/easier test versions. It's really F-ed up. How you do is only relative to how everyone else did. Maybe you just took a harder test version with a bunch of perfect scorers.

  • 31!? thats really good.

  • hey im taking my tests tomorrow and this video really does help! Wish me luck. and I wish this guy was my science/math teacher.

  • I got a 15 (overall) my 1st try, and a 17 (overall) my 2nd time. I wish I were smart. any tips for the people like me? right now I am trying to study for next week ill have to take the test.

  • I am the same. What im doing is downloading study guides. Try the same, Take practice tests, google ACT practice tests/study guides. Most are sold, but theres also free ones that are decently good.

  • i got a 35 on the science

    35 overall

  • i got a 32 on the science section and 31 overall. the key is timing because you really don't need knowledge of specific sciences to take this one

  • i tried to do one of the 4min passages and i barely got to answer the first question.

  • my guidance counselor has the purple book..i think the orange one must be older.

    or newer...

    hmm....

  • same here

  • I took the ACT for the first time today. I agree that the Science part is the hardest, they make you read long passages explaining the graphs, and you got to answer based off of the passage AND what the graph says. So it takes a lot longer to answer

  • I took my first act test on the 7th, and I went in thinking I was going to get at least a 30, when we got started, I noticed that I was running out of time rather quickly. In fact, there would be at least 10-15 blank circles at time up. My score is 24, and I was actually relieved because i thought it would be much lower. I know the material, I'm just a slow worker. Thank you for uploading this vid, I'm going to get studying with you plan asap and take the summer test.

  • Super Magnet Man--I appreciate the availability of these videos. May I download and use for ACT test prep? I want to respect your copyright. I will be doing test prep this summer (for free) for high school dropouts who are in an adult diploma completion program.

  • Of course. That is why I put it up here - to help as many people as I can. Thanks for asking.

  • hey thanks for doing this on youtube because its free of charge b/c theres some people who cant afford prep classes .

  • ditto

  • do you teach other courses as well

  • We teach the ACT test. Another lady does the english and reading part. i do math and science. We are developing a web based site where people can take our course online. It is all video based with video explanations for all questions. We also do teach the PSAT, SAT, GRE and GMAT prep classes. The later are college grad school tests and we do not do as much with them as the ACT and SAT.

  • Physics 2 AP WOOT!

  • Chemistry 2 AP WOOT! :D

  • So I can complete reading ACT tests in about 25-30 minutes and get about a 35. I take the science portion and barely finish in time and make about a 28~29. Something just doesn't follow.

  • Science is always my weakest score.

  • Part of it comes from over analyzing the information. Your reading score and science score should be 1-2 points apart. They both work the same basic skill. Certainly practicing against a stop watch will help you develop the pace that you need to go at.

  • Thanks a lot for these tips. I did So very terrible on my ACT test last year and i will be re taking it with in this month but i am planning on watching all of your videos since i really need help with this stuff...

So thank you for posting this up and helping us stressed out teenagers!

  • You have no idea how much you helped me out by putting these videos up. At first I didn't know what I was doing, and now I am getting all 40 questions right in the science section.

  • You're welcome. I have been teaching classes and tutoring for 7 or 8 years and thought this was the best way I could help others that can't make it to our classes. Thanks for letting me know.

  • Thank you very much.

  • i took the ACT and got a 34 on the science part. i felt it was the easiest

  • thx for the vids man, i take the act on sep 13, im trying to score a 35, hope i can

  • Good luck!

  • your really helpful.

    i'm suscribing to you now!

  • wow! thank you for uploading this video! I've ALWAYS had trouble with the science part. I think the biggest problem for me is that I'm a slow reader. I usually go straight to the questions because of it, any suggestions on how to improve my reading speed?

Again, thanks for doing this video!

  • I'm not 'super magnet man' or whatever, but try just skimming for important words. Make sure to see every word, but you only have to really read the important words.

I don't know if your mind works like this, but mine knows the whole question, and the ones I actually read stand out.

I dunno, but it works for me.

  • Omg! Thank you so much your vedios have helped me a whole lot! I took the ACT 3 times and chrismas treed the science part and im going to be taking it again and now i dont have too cuz i know what im doing thank you so much you are a great help =]

  • Thanks &

    You're welcome

  • I enjoy the way he teaches the video and offers it to people all across the internet instead of keeping it to his self. Do you know any one who teaches the English and Reading.

  • Thank you for the comments. I am working with a lady on the English and Reading and I am almost through with the section on Math. I had a camera failure and just today got the new camera today. I hope to have some stuff online in the next week or so. Keep watching for them.

    Thanks

  • i would like to watch any video that shows tips about ACT´s ENGLISH PART ...

  • We are working on it. We hope to have it by the end of next year. Thanks

    George

  • The ACT is a major cause of teenage depression its true, the pressure of this test makes me want to committ suicide but your tips kind of make me feel better.

  • While the ACT can cause students to feel a lot of pressure it also is a huge boost to the students who excel. I have had many many students earn full scholarships to college by doing well on this test. Most of my students take it 4 times and we start early in the 11th grade. Instead of trying to get 8-10 points in 1 time we shoot for 2 or 3 points more each time and that really works and takes a lot of pressure off the students.

  • thanks these were helpful.

  • You are so welcome. We are working on the math and english and reading part of the test at this time. hopefully it will be ready by the first of the year.

  • i agree with the other guy who commented. I really appreciate the vids

  • Both of you are very welcome. We are developing a site that in the coming months will offer a better experience and cover all 4 sections of the test.

  • I really appreciate these,

thanks very much for putting these videos up!
