I have done this hike too many times to count, since I was a kid in the 1950's. In the old days we usually were dropped off on the Mt. Wilson road, hiked to the top of Mount Lowe, then down to the ruins of an old hotel which was served by the Mt. Lowe Railway, a train line that ran from the hotel to the top of the Echo Mountain cable car. We would follow the railway to Echo Mountain, then down to Lake where we had left another car to get home in.
I like coming here at night. Its a great hike except for the tarantulas standing in the middle of the trail -_- :)

@fake1009 Yes, supposedly. But I have never seen anything paranormal, even when I went up there on the night of Ju;y 4, 2010.

@doctorstol Thanks for this interesting tidbit. There is a lot of history in the hills above Pasadena/Altadena.
