Fantastic. They were magnificent live. Not seen them live now for ~15 years. They did a great version of Jonny Yen at Alton Towers around 1990. The Beeb put it out live on the radio. Can anyone post it ?
Best live band I've ever seen....for them it's the music, the lyrics, the passion, forged in Manchester University student union, unlike U2 they pay taxes and just love playing...I took a friend to a concert, a lady who had just lost her husband, late last year in San Fran......she sais they made her think it woz time to move on...she woz thrilled......Trumpets, violins, Larry Goff, Tim, with the wierd dance....what's not to love.....$35 bucks a ticket...not f $150 U2...top and better!!!!!
@mikeyfish100 Amen. My wife and I flew from Omaha to Chicago last October to see them. I've been a fan since the late 80s, but it was my first time seeing them live. Her comment after the show: "Half the pretension of U2, and twice as good". Enough said.
Jst reading a few post below and thought id stick my pennies worth in as well. Being more serious than normal when i post on this site ;-)
If i'd to lay my neck on the line for the greatest live act of my (our?) generation. Am 35 yr old. This mob would need to be heading the charge, if not as near as dam it.
I remember sneaking into the secc with me mates the night after id been there with ma bird. Take a guess what night was the best !!!
@thegazzamataz I AGREE............seen them 14 times........cried like a baby in the SECC at their "final" tour..............then when they re-formed & played at The Carling Academy I came out of th gig & felt like my life had just been changed.........THE BEST LIVE BAND I'VE EVER HAD THE PLEASURE TO SEE!!!!!!
This track rocked the corn exchange in edinburgh on the 6th o this month truly amazing i'll pay anybody who can leave a comment saying they know a band better than james
@SCOTTISHMEAT You're killin' me, Meat. :-) I'm sitting in here Omaha, Nebraska USA with no chance of ever seeing James live, and you casually mention that you saw them live. You guys are very lucky over there. Why would James ever want to play in a city of 800,000 people in the middle of a cornfield? Don't bother answering that question, it was rhetorical. By the way, I can't think of a better band.
@SCOTTISHMEAT Absolutely amazing mate! Seen them in Dublin last yr and the place was actually bouncin!! I do have to say though, another great band that are so under rated is Cast!! Not in the same class as James but still a great band!!
@BurbeQue alright buddy that was a total blast from the past Cast!! Never seen them live they were kicking about when a was at high school remember having a baby blue t-shirt with the RAF half circle on it and cast written underneath thought a was cool as fuck wearing it lol
@SCOTTISHMEAT I had the very same t shirt ma man!! Cast were fantastic! The old indie 'madchester' scene was the bollocks, The Smiths, The Stone Roses, James an the likes, never beat it! Bring back the Hacienda!!!
the best band ive seen live....lots going on all the way throught the gig......and to top it off they pulled my mate on stage to dance...unforgettable night
Bought my 1st James 12" over 23 years ago. Saw them live in London, one of 30 people at the venue. In my opinion, they are the greatest band that never was. One hand clapping.............
He's got that printed on a football jersey himself.. most places that sell jerseys print player names and numbers on them too... he's just asked for 'James 7'
"Getting away with it, live" is the DVD ye'll get the full gig this was filmed form.........I cried at the gig in Glasgow. It was the farewell concert!!!!! Thankfully 6 years later they re-formed & it has got to be said the re-union gig was the best from 12 times I've seen James.......it changed me!!!!
Mostly Dmajor Gmajor Amajor. For the other bit (See the young man...)its Dmajor, Eminor, F#minor, Gmajor Amajor, etc. Hope that makes some kind of sense so you can play along.
dumphucazn - guessing you look like something special.... i'd bet my life on the fact you can't write or sing like Tim Booth does.... i'd also bet you're a pot-faced little dweeb that hides behind an internet personna... grats to you...
One of my favourite songs too, have seen them several times, this year in Manchester and have tickets to see them in April 08 - can't wait for the new album!
Well no I've still got mine but we women usually don't have to deal with hair loss. I just wish that all the men in the world would realize that most of us could care less if the have a head full of hair
... well that's always reassuring to know! I suppose what is really worth saying is that this was always my fave James song - that's what drew me to search it out on Youtube in the first place. Class act!
Yes! Amazing band, amazing song! Thank God for Youtube. I live in the states where we are subjected to musical crap on a daily basis. Have you ever seen James live?
Yeah. The gig I was at is actually on Youtube - James at Glastonbury in 1994. All I remember was how he danced in the most incredibly demented way to'sandman'.
I am completely envious!I would love to see them live. I am always in awe of Tim Booth's fearless lyrics and dancing. He really puts himself out there for all to see. I admire that in a person. Anyhow, I will check out the show you were at and continue to dwell in envy!

Johnny Yen was released on the album ' Stutter'
This version of the song can be found on the 'Getting Away With It... Live' CD and DVD.
If you live in England, you can usually pick the albums up for less than £5 from FOPP stores... I paid £2 for the GAWI Live 2CD album.
