Say what you want, but Metallica is still an awesome band. Load and ReLoad have some of the deepest lyrics in metal history, and I commend Metallica for trying something different. As much as I love Slayer or Megadeth, they just do they same shtick for every album: FAST FAST FAST. People only want fast songs and cannot accept a bit of peace and thought, and that is a shame.

Generic riffs? Name one band who was doing anything like Kreator at their time.

Metal is based on playing the open root note, if you complain about that go listen to pop or some bullshit. And no, Sadus aren't just open e strumming, listen to "Swallowed in Black" or "Visions of Misery", far beyond anything Metallica could play, let alone write.

Iron Maiden are notorious for their use of pentatonic, the simplest scale to learn, they may be a godly band, but please it's not like they were music geniuses. Actually, Mille was the only guitar player on both Endless Pain and Pleasure to Kill (although Wolfe was credited as playing guitar on the album, he joined after the album was recorded). Generic riffs? Name one band who was doing anything like Kreator at their time.

I never said they had to, but to call them better than a band that is more technical, or faster (in a genre about being fast), or heavier etc. Metallica have always written the most monotonous, boring riffs, even during their thrash years. Listen to "Bonded by Blood", the riffs, solos and song structures are far more complex than "MOP", and it sounds better. "Leper Messiah" is the only half decent song, and that's because the main riff was stolen from Dave.

Bonded by Blood is far more complex, the riffs are more structured and sound so much better than ANYTHING Metallica has EVER done. Well, dude you got your wish with a great Metallica album in Death Magnetic. Fuck whatever people say about the production. It still is a very great album! Honestly, I love the first two albums. Ride the Lightning might just very well be my favorite Metallica album as it inspired me on so many levels. I've just loved nearly everything that they've ever released but that's just me.
