  • I don't know why I have never heard of them. It just doesn't make sense that I have never even heard them mentioned by anyone. WTF?

  • My Goodness! the best dance routine i've ever seen! they are on a different level of greatness! we will never see the likes of them again

  • If only I'd seen this film when I was a kid i WOULD have learned to tap dance.

The brothers were the best pair, Gregory Hines the best solo tap dancer by far.

  • The flip into the split at 1:23 was sick!

  • We liked it.

  • It is said that in time all things are bettered. I believe these two have put that idea to bed!!

  • they are the teachers of Mickael Jackson

  • @papo008 and yet you have placed this video in your playlist "the best dancers and Dance moves ever" .....?

    nice work buddy

  • @papo008 man you need to stop hating!! Michael Jackson was a great dancer but the Nicholas Brothers are some of the best tap dancers ever. You must not know how much they influenced dance

  • @papo008 RETARDED????? What? Stay off the drugs because they are MJ's teachers! Bar none. I love MJ but he got his prowess from watching brothers like these!

  • wow

  • i bet they can dance on water

  • They have not been, and will never be, bettered. Long live the Nicholas Brothers!

  • no one can dance like them...ever

  • "Down Argentine Way" with Betty Grable, Don Ameche, Carmen Miranda, and Charlotte Greenwood. Classic and soooo wonderful! I love the Nicholas Brothers!

  • Comment removed

  • The best last century??!!! ANY century!! They are simply the best. better than all the rest No kidding, though. If this clip doesnt convince you for some reason, check out the clip from that alice faye betty grable movie, or any other movie theyve ever been in. MJ, Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly, couldnt even hope to cme close!! And hopefully they knew it!!

  • tell me who are those 6 people who disliked this video so i could MURDER them!!

  • WOW!!! it's like they're flowtting on the floor in staid of walking on it!!! o_O

  • 2:12 gtfoh!!!!!

  • Michael Jackson, along with Janet, was one of the Nicholas Brothers' students.

  • I love watching the Nicholas Brothers but I can do without the spanish speaking crap!

  • i got a question, in what kind of place are they performing? i mean what are they ppl around? are they part of the show or is this being presented on tv but they're the lucky ones to watch it live or what?

  • @pqstr

This is a scene from the movie Down Argentine Way.

  • @Becca3232 thanks for the info. can you answer the question that i did ask now? it might be a movie but where are they performing IN the movie? i mean what is this place supposed to be, a restaurant or sth?

  • @pqstr

I believe it's some kind of club. I know the two female leads in the movie are performers. I haven't actually seen the movie so that's just a guess :P

  • What in the hell does he have on the soles of his shoes to be able to slide around like that (see 1:39) but still have enough traction to do the other things that he's doing?????

Dance moves at this level will probably NEVER be duplicated, because today's entertainers don't want to work and practice anywhere near this hard. Just the physical conditioning requirements alone would rule out nearly all of today's Pop entertainers.

  • I love tap.. an this is my engagement ring.

  • Jesus christ, what the hell did I just watch? My mind was just blown.

  • I never get tired of watching this clip it is amazing.

  • best dance act EVER period....

  • awesome. i love them.

  • There i no other tap dancer like them in history!!

  • I LOVE that i understand what the spanish voice over is saying :D

  • Get 'cha freak on!!! Holy crap! Positively astounding. I could watch them all day!! Nobody is ever going to do this again. Pure unadulterated MAGIC!!!

  • Did they work for MGM? I was just thinking of those "That's Entertainment" movies where they showed clips of the best singer/dancers and there was no mention of these guys. Amazing dancers though; I think they must be made of rubber to do the things they do, or some sort of deal with the devil was involved.

  • @chomsky88 That's Entertainment is where I first heard of them. They may have used the clip of the number they did with Gene Kelly in The Pirate. There may have been another, but I can't be sure, it's been so long since I have seen those movies...

  • OMG a beaner is talking!!!

  • That's just impossible, I've never seen anybody jumping on a napkin like that is just insane o.o

  • THIS IS THE BEST!!!! PERIOD!!

  • hêh_ì_fëël_so_løÑëlY_tôdÁY

  • Nobody is like them.

  • Fanfreakintastic! Nobody can beat them! The best there ever was!

  • Fanfreakintastic! Nobody can beat them! The there ever was!

  • Repost my original post b'cuz ppl r replying 2 the wrong 1. (1 year ago)

"It's great to see someone posting the Nicholas Brothers. IMO, there STILL isn't a dance combo (or dancer for that fact) that can touch these two. They were smooth, graceful *and very handsome).

Today, dancers need physical trainers, steriods, etc to do the things these guys did. Harold and Fayer just practiced. Hammer, Michael jackson, Janet Jackson, Usher? HAH! They couldn't touch neither one of the Nicholas Brothers."

  • Thats what Michael Jackson meaned about dancing

    Rythm, smooth and magical

    I loved it

  • i would break every single bone in my body if i were trying to dance like that

  • 99% of the best there is out there couldn't do what these guys did.

    Just raw talent unleashed.

That's not "tap" --- This is what Sammy Davis used to refer to as " Hoofin' " (he was first-rate himself)... Nicholas Bros are two of the best hoofers you'll ever see.

  • Hey, this is somewhere between dancing and, and ...... magic!

  • are they still alive?

  • @southernbrooklyngal No, both have passed, but one of them lived to be quite old and died just a few years ago.

  • @southernbrooklyngal ahh thanks for the update, sad but they will not be forgotten

  • I would break every bone in my body tryin to do that

  • These two brothers are the most amazing tap dancers I've ever seen in my life! I love it!

  • Sorry for the language but I don't know how else to describe this and them but Fucking Amazing!!!!!!

  • Simply the best ever!

  • I am one of James Brown's greatest fans, and I suspect even he knew that he (or anyone else) couldn't touch the Nicholas Brothers as pure dancers. They are far and away the best dancers I have ever seen. However, it's really unfair to compare them to James Brown or Michael Jackson because they were complete entertainers: sang, danced, produced, wrote, directed, played some instruments, JB created funk, etc, while the Nicholas Brothers were only dancers.

  • wow!!! holy shit!!!

  • Les twins remind me of them.

  • These guys are amazing!

  • They sure are the best I've ever seen. It's too bad they were black in a time when black entertainers were discriminated against. They would have given Fred Astaire and Gene Kelley some real competition

  • Simply amazing and added to my favorites. Thankyou for posting!

  • One day there will be a Vid posted on you tube that doesn't become tainted by tit-for-tat comments about race, religion and culture. Just enjoy the vid guys and girls. There's some true talent up above and you spoiling it with tired, boring, same old hate based commentary!

  • How in the hell do you jump over a hankerchief insane! They were awesome, incrediable, amazing, mindblowing im running out of things to say.............

  • wow! at 1:23

  • amazing and FUNNY!

  • these guys preformed on stage for white people..but only to have there talents stolen by them.what a shamee..guibox its called bboying stop the confusion geez. it wasnt them..crazy legs grabbed the concept of tap dancing and made it bboying.know that history it was he that invented bboying..

  • this is the cool version of hip hop

  • Breakdancing can't hold a candle to these guys. Breakdancing is what the fine art of athletic tap has degenerated into.

  • the origin of the moon walk.

  • i am sure no disrespect was meant, however, perhaps another choice of words, because this has NOTHING to do with acrobatic tricks, these men who i grew up watching when it wasnt in style for the world outside our community, are to dance what MICHAELANGELO is to the Sistine Chapel inimitable masters, They were not dancing, only GOD could move like this, and through them he doeth his mighty works.......

  • Lol how many guys could do a cartwheel and then the splits then back to standing in one move?

  • To use the term 'acrobatic' when describing the Nicholas Brothers, is to underscore their unparellelled status as two of the greatest dancers of all-time; the 'acrobatics' being part of a much broader repertoire. Simply put, Harold and Fayard were a CLASS ACT, dancing with with a seemingly effortless flair and improvisational musicality that was unmatched, least of all by far less deservingly celebrated white tap performers who were never in the same league as these two geniuses of dance.

  • Fucking glorious. Makes me glad to be an American. The Nicholas Brothers forever!

  • @skye6206 fuck yeah. Nicholas bros are amazing, as well as fred astaire.

  • older they look young as hell here

  • You can actually tell they're getting older because they use their hands on the splits - which is amazing. This is them when they're OLDER and SLOWER! Wow.

  • WHAT are people TALKING about MICHAEL for? This is where he (and Astaire for that matter) got their schtick! These two are the GREATEST! And that's no jive...

  • That is just Crazy! they are so amazing! I love it!

  • The Nicholas Brothers are the reason I got into tap in the first place; I always said I wanted to dance like them.

  • breakdance was influenced by this..

  • It was rumored that Fred Astaire would sneak onto the set when the Nicholas Brothers were performing theirr numbers.

  • I have just learned of the Nicholas Brother just a few days ago. I have been watching there video's for the last three days. They where PIONEERS!!

    WOW 1:20

Who knew that that move was done 60 years ago?

  • Oh my goodness. Where have u been. U've got to look at their performance in Stormy Weather w/Lena Horne...FANTASTIC!! is all I can say

  • Sensational.

  • This is the best to be seen from "flash dancing" all over the world & I mean for ever. Nicolas Brothers are doubtlessly THE KINGS OF FLASH DANCING.

  • wow....

  • They combine the best of Astaire, Kelly and O'Connor.

  • Back in those days of classic American dance, everyone, I mean everyone was graceful and fluid and poised, even if you couldn't do all the acrobatics that these cats did.

  • I also liked Gregory and Maurice Hines. Excellent at contemporary tap.

  • You know, I haven't watched much of his/their work. I think the whole Hollywood piece obscured his real art. Thanks. I'll look for some.

  • I do believe these talented fellows beat the mighty MJ to the moonwalk towards the end of the clip, kind of!

  • oh come on, get real, MJ can't even begin to compare with the Nicholas Brothers..;every step MJ ever did had already been invented 60 years before he was born, executed better, faster and more gracefull than he ever did...any dancer with a little historical perpective will tell you that.

  • Yep. Spot on.

  • @Drkdebryne

In fairness to MJ, if he were alive I am sure he would agree with your statement as well. MJ understood, relished and appreciated the historical perspective of pioneers like the Nicholas Brothers. MJ considered many, including Fred Astaire as his idols.

  • I have historical perspective in dance, I dance myself, but I still think Michael is the greatest. People say he's overrated and stuff but he was a nice and humble guy, besides he gets an standing ovation before he hardly moved a muscle. Whether

  • @DonDubbelman Personality set aside don't get me wrong MJ was a product of his time.Historically speaking ever hear of the Will Matsin Trio,The Step Brothers,The Clark Brothers, Sandman, Snake Hips, Gregory and Maurice Hines, Berry Brothers, Peg Leg. Bill Robinson? The list goes on. In comparison to these innovators, MJ is over rated. I don't think if he was coming along back then, he would have even made it. I remember MJ from the beginning and never once saw him do half the things they did.

  • @DonDubbelman ,"..he gets an standing ovation before he hardly moved a muscle.." .Duhhhh !!!...write about danncing skills !!! and this video speaks by itself !!

  • You can't compare Micheal Jackson to the Nichols brothers, two different type of styles. The Nichols brother are cold blooded, jump all off the balcony with splits.

  • @Dirkdebruyne You are right! Michael just had the good sense to emulate THE BEST! Michaels parents watched programming like this and Micahel watched too and copied their moves! You know what else? Have you ever watched "Coming to America"? Paula Abdul takes credit for the dance moves, but the moves AND THE COSTUMES were taken straight out of movie called "Stormy Weather" starring Lena Horne and Bill Robinson!

  • Great Tap

  • Awesome display of talent!

  • This is from "Down Argentine Way" (1940) and starred another famous pair of legs: Bettye Grable. And, yes. I will become a fan on FB. Many more need know of these amazing performers and their incalculable contribution to dance.

  • 2 of the best to ever do it

  • AWESOME!!!! They could be such a super great salsa dancers. Double wow!!!

  • Become a fan of the Nicholas Brothers on FACEBOOK.. They only have about 150 fans now. They deserve a lot more, don't you think?

  • if u don't know .... now u know who started

it all!!! can u digg this!! can not b touch!!

  • I think it's safe to say that the Nicholas brothers invented breakdancing without realizing it. This was so freakishly ahead of it's time it's scary! People of that generation watching them must have looked at each other with seriously puzzled expressions on their faces with how far these guys took tap dancing! Unbelievable!

  • I was thinking the same thing! It even looks like they put a little "moonwalking" into the routine. hahaha

  • ... O_O

  • Are u fuckin serious?? INCREDIBLE!

  • Amazing! Only the Baker Brothers rivaled them. I know not who was better. The truth of the matter is that the golden age of dancing is not on the radar screen to most people. It's a shame what they are missing. Another ex. is Eleanor Powell coined the Queen of Tap. In his book Fred Astaire said " She put em down like a man. No ricky ticky stuff with Ellie. She danced in a class by herself ,male or female!" He also said of these two , that the Jumping Jive dance they performed was the best ever!

  • I got to hang out with the Nicolas Brothers in person in the 90s... while I was working at the Banff TV Festival (who was presenting a documentary about them). After watching the film, I was so moved that I begged the festival to invite them in person to be presented the award. What an honour to meet such talent, such passionate men, and what a travesty that America has no idea about these men who revolutionized dance beyond any of their peers since. Bravo!

  • To be honest, I'd never heard of them until recently, but they are truly amazing. You were luck to meet them.

  • What a treat to be able to meet them. They taught dance at Harvard later in their life. Nobody even close to them today!

  • Aa...a...a...a...aah

    *lacks completely of words*

  • Is that because you don't speak Spanish?

  • Well if you think I refered to spanish words then youd be right at any times because I dont speak a word of Spanish but here I lack in words in any language to describe this routine!

    Beyond amazing

  • That was CRAZY!...the Best!

  • This FANTASTIC DUO was SUBLIME and they made it look SO easy.

    Thanks:D

  • Amazing every time I watch it....

  • The greatest ever! Hands down! Nobody,

and I mean NOBODY, can do it, not even

close, the way these two brothers did it.

  • That was brilliant.

  • Fantastico

  • Yep, joseph 210109 he was in the movie the Five Heartbeats, he was also in the movie Tap.

  • wow i would need a lott of training to do what they did! - molly =]

  • SORRY .but is that little one is he in the move FIVE hartbeats .thanks

  • absurd!

  • these guys are beautiful! words cant go there. enormous talents

  • They're amasin. Wish I could dance like that, blimy! :) xx

  • It's great to see someone posting the Nicholas Brothers.

HAH! They couldn't touch neither one of the Nicholas Brothers.

  • P Lock is the closest person I can think of

  • You are so right about that. Not even Ne-Yo nor "Mr.Mishandling Rihanna" could top the dancing sensations! THE NICHOLAS BROTHERS make me proud!!

  • @khaliamoon

what about the late great gregory hines? - or do you think he was less athletic? these guys are very high octane, and so fast!

come to think of it you're right. i cant think of anyone like them.

    amazing!

  • @khaliamoon I would say Michael is better, now don't kill me for saying this but just seeing that he never got a proper training and does so many different styles just does it for me. So to me it's:

    Michael Jackson best dancer overall

But Nicholas best tap dancers and acrobatic dancers ever!

  • @khaliamoon Fred Astair was a grand dancer too

  • @khaliamoon So tell me when Michael ever used physical trainers or steriods? All Michael did was study the greatest dancers, including The Nicholas Brothers. I will say The Nicholas Brothers were the most dynamic, but Michael the most versatile. Needless to say this is why Michael inspired 2 generations of dancers.

  • @khaliamoon You cant compare them with today :-P and especially not Michael Jackson, it is a completely differente genre of dance, Michael was the master of his field and they were the masters of their field :D

  • @khaliamoon I think M.Jackson comes closest, he had the footwork, but not the athelticism. I think I read somewhere that Jackson did practice with them. Not sure how true that is tho.

  • @valor423 Well he did dance with them, there's a video of it somewhere on youtube. So its safe to say that he probably practiced with them before they performed.

  • @BWAcolyte Amazing!

  • @khaliamoon I think todays standards are much lower than in the past. Today anyone this good, will never be famous because its not about that, it's about bulk mass marketing and dumbing everything down. We seem to love mediocrity.

But I love it, because you and I can enjoy it. And everyone else misses out...

  • @khaliamoon OR ANY CENTURY.....

  • @khaliamoon but then again, all those you mentioned are mainly singers, but the nicholas brothers were only dancers/performers. if you go check the dancers that perform with those artists, you'll see that they are indeed much better than the artists since they are only dancers/performers. this reminded me of silent films actors X actors that needed to have good vocal prowess to act.

  • @Aladato This was my original post:

"It's great to see someone posting the Nicholas Brothers. IMO, there STILL isn't a dance combo (or dancer for that fact) that can touch these two. They were smooth, graceful *and very handsome).

Today, dancers need physical trainers, steriods, etc to do the things these guys did. Harold and Fayer just practiced. Hammer, Michael jackson, Janet Jackson, Usher? HAH! They couldn't touch neither one of the Nicholas Brothers."

Why is everyone replying to me? LMAO!

  • HOLY SHIT!!!

  • I'm speechless! O_O

  • Good.

    God.

    Almighty.

The speed, the extension, the acrobatics, the speed, and oh yes, the speed!

I got an asthma attack just watching them.

  • SERIOUSLY!!!

  • jawdroping!!! Absolutley crazy, flawless and amazing!

  • Did I miss something here? When I saw this movie some years ago, I was impressed by Harold Nicholas' singing in Spanish while dancing. Where was the singing in this clip? Was I asleep at the wheel?

  • That part of this clip was cut out. They both sing at the beginning of this clip.

  • The best there ever was.

  • Beyond amazing!! :D

  • WOW!!

    O_O"

  • Does anyone know what movie this is from?

That was so great, I fell in love with them when I first saw them dance in Stormy Weather

  • This is "Down Argentine Way" (1940).

  • Thank you

  • Lord have a mercy!

  • DAMN How did they do that?!

  • Go lil Seymour, GO!

    These guys were incredible!

  • My favorite dancers of all time! Long live the Nicholas Brothers! No one will ever top them. RIP Harold and Fayard

  • That is some bad-ass dancing!!! So acrobatic.

  • Normally I don't like to say that someone is the best ever, but the Nicholas Brothers really were. There's the Nicholas Brothers and then there's everyone else!

  • seriously we are in 2008!!!! they are still unmatched!!!!!!!

  • It was inhuman how great that was! WOW!!!

  • speechless o_o

  • I remember hearing a story from the younger brother, Harold. Gene Kelly was such a perfectionist when it came to rehearsal when the three of them worked together in musicals.

Kelly used to get mad at Harold for not wanting to go through the steps time and again. Harold knew them from the start and never forgot. He was a genius. So was his brother, Fayard.

  • These brothers rock. I'm going to say that they were before their time. Hell some of those moves hurt me just watching them!!!

  • that is quite possibly the best dancing i've ever seen.

  • i seen a video when i was little and they was dancin they asses off...i told my mom to sign me up for tap!! and im still tryna do moves like them i almost got it though! lol but i will never be like them

  • O.M.G~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

  • exactly how I felt
