Just realized it was Buddy's birthday yesterday (February 2nd) and so was wondering what became of Buddy's last recordings? There were some great and deeply personal gems in that disk. Emmeline, are you holding on to these? I'd like to hear "Someday I'll Be Better" again. Believe it or not, I loved Buddy like a brother; he was part of my family.
I am glad to hear people's reactions when they have not heard Buddy before! I lived loved and played with him for many years and upon watching this video I wonder what would have happened if he HAD followed me to amsterdam? Thanks everyone for listening and appreciating this man. Marty you are a star for caring and posting your work together. Thank you, love Nichole
I am just so happy to see this video back up. I was astonished the first time I saw it. Then I went back to visit it again and it was gone. I played many of the same clubs as Buddy, but never had the pleasure of meeting him. SlamGrass!!!!! Fantastic!
I just came across this.. thanks for getting it back up.. i still have the old video embedded on my music page.. but it doesnt work any longer... lol.. got any more vids of Buddy? ... love u... *
I just came across Buddy's Cd "Midlife Chrysler" yesterday for the first time. It blew me away... I came home and googled him only to find out that he had passed away. I'll enjoy his music for many years to come and a big thanks to Channel 8 in Roseville for having the incredibly good taste to shoot this video and post on Youtube.
@Wildwestradio thanks - And it would be nice for them to post their archives. I don't know who's got that. If anyone reading this wishes to share anything regarding 'the vault' of the CATV 8 (Roseville, CA) archives, i'd be thankful.
What DonWhitesound said. Would watch while Buddy would smoke a riff involving every finger...then flat pick the very same cadence just for the wider eyes on the faces of the guitar players who were watching. Buddy sang this particular song so many times, threatening to leave, about Bolinas. Even would improvise the words around to the songs he'd written into parodies of himself. That's how "..too many Huckin' Fippies here!" happened...
I have spent hours and hours watching Buddy play. He was amazing. The things I would ask about between sets, getting outside, steel guitar riffs, chromatic runs, were answered by him looking up at me right in the eyes during the following set while he played 50 different variations of the thing I asked about. The best guitar lessons happen when you just listen.
Dig it Mart--Buddy was the real deal......what a picker.......!Camera guy missed the 1st Solo !!HOOT!! (great just to heat.......nice bass playin' Marty! super understated just so drummin' is totally old school----thumbs up to that drummin'!!
