I'm not saying that post office workers don't have real jobs, they do, but there is no real need for them. Most people I know would rather use UPS than USPS any day, their faster and better. Also much of the job of the post office is obsolete now that we have email. The government is going to have to raise taxes AND cut back spending and this is a program it doesn't really need to fund anymore.

When you compare incomes based on similar levels of education, you will see that they make about the same or a little lower, especially higher-level appointees. Over the last 30 years, the salary of government workers relative to private sector has gone down. Learn facts, not talking points.

Many local governments, to save money, often contract those jobs out to private entities simply because it IS cheaper. And I'm fine with local governments handling stuff like public goods up to a point, but even then it isn't completely necessary.

At best you have private contractors that do those things for the state, but that isn't the same thing at all. When you compare incomes based on similar levels of education, you will see that they make about the same or a little lower, especially higher-level appointees. Over the last 30 years, the salary of government workers relative to private sector has gone down. Learn facts, not talking points.

@strep7 they had private ownership of businesses, and hitler considered command economies such as socialism and communism evil. companies like volkswagon and mercedes made plenty of cash off of the nazi regime, and in America people were put to work for the work effort, making companies like chrysler very rich. Nazi Germany was capitalistic, not that that's a bad thing.

Nazi Germany had a fully capitalist economy, in academics it is known as state capitalism in opposite to the Soviet form of command economy. For educated people, it's two different things.

Look at one U.S slave state, the fascist dictatorship in Chile, it resultet in over 100 000 political refugees but all assets were privately owned.

Communist had state atheism and the fascists were all convinced that atheism was the root of all evil. Communism is not a racial ideology but Nazism was a racial ideology . @S0up3rD0up3r i'm no defender of everything government does, but unless your beloved "private sectors" pay and built their own roads, air traffic, waterways, law enforcement, fire protection and security, they are using public resources and thus rely on some form of government. the point isn't that everything that govt does is good or bad, the point is to always work to make it work,even if its frustrating as hell sometimes, rather than write it all off AND bitch about it all the time.

Of course if government can somehow do it better, they are free to compete, but if they really can do it better they shouldn't need to force people to pay for their stuff via taxation. Can you immagine if a private business did that?

@Houshalter that may have worked in the day of horses and dirt trails, but with billions of dollars in commerce every day you need an entity with the resources of a government to get it done. also, the whole point of taxation is that everyone pays a little so it adds up to a lot and a service can be afforded. you'd never afford private companies to sell you, say, fire protection services, police, defense and water sanitation any better than you could afford to pay blackwater for your defense

@tyrannosaurusinf14 if you can't afford their services, what makes you think government is cheaper? Usually it isn't. Many local governments, to save money, often contract those jobs out to private entities simply because it IS cheaper. And I'm fine with local governments handling stuff like public goods up to a point, but even then it isn't completely necessary.

@Houshalter the fact that i can pay my taxes and get those services is what makes me think it's cheaper. the fact that i can't hire blackwater or ken starr firm for legal defense is what makes me think it's cheaper. any idea why so many countries with better quality of life indexes than the us can do it with accountable government? yeah, because they collect their fair share of taxes and people hold them accountable by protesting if necessary instead of just saying "government is always shit."

@tyrannosaurusinf14 there are not any companies that are in the business of providing public goods, simply because governments have a monpoly on them. At best you have private contractors that do those things for the state, but that isn't the same thing at all. In those cases the gov. is the customer, not the actual consumers that pay for or benefit from the service.
