I was the programmer of this game. Thanks for the nice comments! and to all the nasty ones, go fuck yourselves. I was only 18 when I wrote it, and I had 2 months to make it.
I use an emulator with savestates for this video. The C64-project is more for historical reasons. I am not such a god-player how it seems in the videos.
i remember saving up to buy this game and being gutted at how bad it was. it took them ages to release it cos it was full of bugs. the spectrum 48k came out a year before this and was so much smoother and more playable
My phone has an even better version on it and i have one of the cheapest phones there is, one horay for science. Oh yeah, nice they make hospital equipment and other important stuff too.
Why isn't he getting the bombs in the right order and getting the bonuses? He's playing it way too easy.
For all the people raving about this game, the music sux compared to the original. The original has multiple tunes, not just one short tune played over and over again. When you take into account that we are talking about the legendary SID chip, it's really disappointing. I would expect this from an atari, not the C64.
@christo930 Actually the Atari XE version has much better sound and graphics, but then it is from 2008. The thing that used to annoy me was the fact that each sound effect interrupted the music's audio and timing. Same issue with Ghosts 'n Goblins.
@gamein60seconds Especially seeing that the sid has 3 voices. It's a poorly written sound engine. It's a rushed port and they obviously didn't want to pay any music license.
It's the damn Jarre's "magnetic fields" heh. I just listened to him and thought that i knew this song from somewhere. I had this game when i was a little boy
One of the best arcade games on Commodore C64 !!! The gameplay is the same like on the real arcade machine. Fast gameplay and nice music. This game brings till today a lot of fun !!!! A real Arcade Classic Game!!!
Great!. The original comes new out on the XBOX under the name: "TECMO CLASSIC ARCADE"
The music at lvl 1 is made by Sean Michelle Sharr (or how ever u spell it) Its Oxygen Part ???, cant remember which.. Just thought I'd share it for those who want to hear the original score :)
Who cares what system is better than the other? Today everything is "better". This is about memories not grapichs.... Showed this to my kid who is six, he laught like hell. Felt that I grew up in the stone-age :-)
However, dissapointed that Reinhard did not try to make a high score. The point in the game is always going to the bomb that flashes. That will give extra bonus scores after each level, and adds an extra dimension to the game.
the game was my absolute favorite on C64, and I entertained the school playing in between the lessons. Those was the days.

Anyone knows the gameplay's song name or author?

The author from the C64 music is Mark Cooksey. But it`s a coverversion. The original is from "Jean Michel Jarre"

neither have music in them
C64 is the best 8-bit port
because it has music

I agree. ZX's version was fantastic. The C64 version was surprisingly ugly. Unfinished I could say.

In my opinion the best version of this game. It has a soul the other versions lack. And I love the music (yeah it's Jarre, Magnetic Fields part 2)!
Jarren202 4 years ago 3
Way to go, Reinhard! I had this on C64 as part of a Hit Pak and never got as far as that. A lot of near misses with the sprites, wow.
