@691951ful continue..may be think that all of this happened under Suleyman will, that's okay, he loved her and really history full of stories of the most clever and intelligent leaders whom was manipulated by strong woman like Hurrem or bad assistants like Rustum Pasa. But when we were talking about scenario, its really because of the last episode weak plots , plus that since season 2 started Suleyman character didn't developed versus Ibrahim and Hurrem character whom developed incredibly.

@Monow3at Dear friend , I didn't read books actually , I jjust search on MAgnificent Suleyman through Google and it will open for u a lot of wikipedias so from there u will find a lot of interesting readings about the Ottomans and Hurrem , Mihrimah, Mahidevrane , Pargali Ibrahim, the articles r taken from books or written by a different famous historians: turkish, british and american historians , it's better to read from different historians to see the differences between the facts.

@691951ful Since Ms Okay is obviously inspired by classics(she used Shakespeare's Hamlet:Ophelia, to thee to a nunnery-by sending Isabella to monastery,and Coppola's Godfather-by killing the favorite horse as a way to send the massage to Hurrem),I expect a scene from Mel Gibson's Braveheart in the future episodes-with Isabella visiting Suleymans war camp outside Vienna,spending some private time in his tent.Hurrem won't be there to make decisions for him, so why not? ;o)

@nasoo777 may be he is playing with Hurrem to know what she is hiding but unfortunately he will sympathise with her because as u see and thanks to the rediculious scenario of the array , Valide killed the horse it was a gift from Suleyman , his name is "Asik" = Love and this will make him sympathise with Hurrem even he wants to play with her but I doubt he loved her, she manipulated him with all the ways she had and she succeeded every time plus the LUCK = Bad scenario.

I still like the show and the intrigue, but yes, more cohesive writing would be welcomed. It's such a different show, first in its kind for Turkey, which is great. And I really enjoyed the writing at first, but the last couple of months makes me think that the writers are running out of ideas! :-)
@hollyglightly123 U mean starting that Isabella appeared, as I told u , Ms Meral want to justifye to us (audience) what will make him want to marry Hurrem and preferred her , if we she gonna make it like history, it will be acceptable for whom he knew history but for non-turkish , she has to draw a parallel line to that love to make Suleyman fall in exam of choose, justifying his choice with that he can't live without Hurrem and afraid to loose her from murdurer.
@lamujerable Earlier in the series, does Suleyman know that Isabella had tried to excape by boat and that Ibrahim caught her? Does he know that Hurrem helped her? How did Hurrem cover it up. Suleyman could tolerate Hurrem after she stole the jewels of his guest, Isabella. Yes, he disciplined her, but that should not be enough for such an insult to the Sultan. Maybe Isabella survives and gets home, maybe with help from Gritti. I also don't see how Suleyman is so calm after the disappearance.
@TheThorne1 You've made some great points. Love the way your mind works. Suleyman didn't know about first escape attempt, but he has Ibrahim in charge for those kind of situations. And Ibrahim has his methods and people (like Sumbul-a, who listened Isabella's conversation about escaping with Karmina in Turkish, for the first time and Karmina didn't even know the language :oD). By staying so calm and transfer emotions from Isabella back to Hurrem, he proves to be unstable emotionally.
@TheThorne1 The whole Isabella plot just doesn't make any sense. Suleyman was emotionally involved with Isabella. So many things indicates that. If he was just toying with her all the time, that makes him look like vindictive, ego high, deeply insecure, sadistic, insensitive man. No win situation for one of the most prominent figures in history. He was an erudite, a poet, man of science and art, conqueror, statesman, legislator-and was reduced to censored lover and one woman's toy.

Plys, picking a REAL person in history like princess (eventually, Queen) Isabella and creating this link where she becomes a concubine??? That's just nuts. Now, I am no traditionalist. I'm MUCH more interested in the harem/soap opera storylines than the war storylines. But the whole Isabella thing makes no sense. Last week he's indifferent to Hurrem and this week he's back to falling under her spell so quickly? Just weird.

@hollyglightly123 My point exactly. I have nothing against well written period/costume soap opera. But I do have issue with poorly written plots and weak dramatic narrative. Binbir Gece was superbly written soap opera. Great character developing and analyze. But, they had 4 script writers working on scenario. Is is difficult to deal with prominent historical figure personal life. There are limitations.
@tashenka11 Yes, we do not see the development of his character.He still reacts to things as he did in the beginning.We could be seeing more of Ibrahim's changing, his growing arrogance and sense of the power due to his military and diplomatic successes and we should know about them.We got a bit of that in the fragman for the second season and when he was fighting with Matratci and said something that sounded presumptuous to the Sultan who got mad and beat him hard when he fell.
@hollyglightly123 That looks like he is either emotionally unstable, or like he actually substitute love for sex. He was looking for Isabella that morning, was completely focused on her emotionally, and since he was accumulating frustration caused by her disappearance from his life, and since he was depriving sexual desire all they long, he found relief by grabbing Hurrem instead. Good thing he didn't bump into Sumbul first. ;o)

Honestly, with last week's episode, where Suleyman was starting to treat Hurrem like Mahidevran and treat Isabelle the way he did Hurrem, I thought 'this is nuts!' I thought he was supposed to be passionately in love with Hurrem, having even breaking tradition by marrying her, and letting her stay in the palace even after she should have left with her sons when they grew older. He had no other after her.

Suleyman is shown like a magnificent mockery. He has no authority (everyone is working behind his back - especially people whom he suppose to trust the most: Ibrahim, Valide and Hurrem), he is forbidden to be a lover (censorship) and the woman of his dreams is not loving him (just using him). He is not much of a warrior neither, since there is no budget for large battle scenes. He wrote poem or two and made few peaces of jewelry. He has no respect for women whatsoever.
@tashenka11 We can't know the real relationship between Suleyman and Hurrem, but it was very complicated. The harem was a very dangerous place and Hurrem had to use her wits to survive and rise. Did she love Suleyman? In relations between a master and a slave, there is no simple yes and no answers because unequal powers. One big error is calling him "Suleyman." No one would dare do that, even his sister or mother. How much manipulation versus real affection, we will never know.
@TheThorne1 They wanted to show us that his mother and sister respect him , even Valide saying to him "aslanim" sometimes she said Suleyman but she is her mom, but his sister always mentioned him "Hunkarin", I think Hurrem issue is different they wnat to show us how, vulgar and wild personality she is, she didn't afraid from him, they showed us how she has a stronh influence on him, because of that she simply calling him "Suleyman".
@lamujerable Great to hear from you in your new persona! The protocol was VERY formal, as I read. His mother would only call him Aslanim or Hunkarim, maybe not even Evladim [my son. I'm not sure. She would not dare call him Suleyman, even in private. Also, she would kiss his hand, not him kissing hers. She would rise from a chair to greet him, not the other way around. He is a sultan, she may be his mother, but she is a slave. These are among the many things they get wrong in the serial.
@TheThorne1 I read that also. although it sounds weird for me because its his mom, I know that I judged from my traditions and period of time not him, but its acceptable in the array even its wrong , the non-acceptable is that Hurrem called him Suleyman cuz he loved her, although he loved Mahidevran before but she always telling him "hunkarim".
@lamujerable Another thing they got wrong is that in reality the Valide Sultan was the absolute ruler of the harem, it was completely hers. She had bureaucratic and other staff almost rivaling that of the Sultan himself, so she was a big manager. No one, not even a favorite of the Sultan could go against her will. The Sultan himself would not get involved and dishonor him mother. Remember also that at this time, the harem was not in Topkapi, but in the old palace in the Fetih section of town.
@TheThorne1 Yes but a kind of that happened really in the series , I remebered when Hurrem complained Valide to him, so he told him Valide is the ruler of the harem here, so Hurrem got dissappointed and after that he pleased her and bla bla bla...., yes Hurrem interfered and put herself with comparison with Valide, she annoyed me with that.

That is the reason why my expectations were so high - I was hoping to see great development of characters and relations, inner dilemmas, frustrations, fears, conflicts, emotions and limitations - both self induced and imposed by cultural frame, society, religion, social status, feeling of duty. @TheThorne1 One more thing - Suleyman was (as Meral portraits him) attracted to disobedient, perky, strong tempered, daring women such as Hurrem. She behaved vulgar, natural, unrestrained, instinctively - both in public and in bed. He was used to boring, submissive, timid women trained to be quiet, not to have personality and opinion and to please him. He was took by storm because of her being so different and 'alive'. Isabella was like that as well.Plus nobility.It's no coincidence.
Meral needs to make a choice whether she wants to please conservative traditionalists who expect serious historical approach or soap opera lovers. Or to make some sense out of combination of those two.

I still like the show and the intrigue, but yes, more cohesive writing would be welcomed. It's such a different show, first in its kind for Turkey, which is great. And I really enjoyed the writing at first, but the last couple of months makes me think that the writers are running out of ideas! :-)

@lamujerable Earlier in the series, does Suleyman know that Isabella had tried to excape by boat and that Ibrahim caught her? Does he know that Hurrem helped her? How did Hurrem cover it up. Suleyman could tolerate Hurrem after she stole the jewels of his guest, Isabella. Yes, he disciplined her, but that should not be enough for such an insult to the Sultan. Maybe Isabella survives and gets home, maybe with help from Gritti. I also don't see how Suleyman is so calm after the disappearance.

@TheThorne1 You've made some great points. Love the way your mind works. Suleyman didn't know about first escape attempt, but he has Ibrahim in charge for those kind of situations. And Ibrahim has his methods and people (like Sumbul-a, who listened Isabella's conversation about escaping with Karmina in Turkish, for the first time and Karmina didn't even know the language :oD). By staying so calm and transfer emotions from Isabella back to Hurrem, he proves to be unstable emotionally.

@TheThorne1 The whole Isabella plot just doesn't make any sense. Suleyman was emotionally involved with Isabella. So many things indicates that. If he was just toying with her all the time, that makes him look like vindictive, ego high, deeply insecure, sadistic, insensitive man. No win situation for one of the most prominent figures in history. He was an erudite, a poet, man of science and art, conqueror, statesman, legislator-and was reduced to censored lover and one woman's toy.

I'm MUCH more interested in the harem/soap opera storylines than the war storylines. But the whole Isabella thing makes no sense. Last week he's indifferent to Hurrem and this week he's back to falling under her spell so quickly? Just weird.

@hollyglightly123 Yes very weird indeed, and unbelievable because in the next episode he will fight with his mom because of her to protect her and to marry her, but actually I have no problem to love a noble woman based on a historical basics as long as we agreed its a fictional drama here!

@hollyglightly123 My point exactly. I have nothing against well written period/costume soap opera. But I do have issue with poorly written plots and weak dramatic narrative. Binbir Gece was superbly written soap opera. Great character developing and analyze. But, they had 4 script writers working on scenario. Is is difficult to deal with prominent historical figure personal life. There are limitations.

@tashenka11 Yes, we do not see the development of his character.He still reacts to things as he did in the beginning.We could be seeing more of Ibrahim's changing, his growing arrogance and sense of the power due to his military and diplomatic successes and we should know about them.We got a bit of that in the fragman for the second season and when he was fighting with Matratci and said something that sounded presumptuous to the Sultan who got mad and beat him hard when he fell.

@hollyglightly123 That looks like he is either emotionally unstable, or like he actually substitute love for sex. He was looking for Isabella that morning, was completely focused on her emotionally, and since he was accumulating frustration caused by her disappearance from his life, and since he was depriving sexual desire all they long, he found relief by grabbing Hurrem instead. Good thing he didn't bump into Sumbul first. ;o)

sedoshka - interesting question: what's the point? Honestly, with last week's episode, where Suleyman was starting to treat Hurrem like Mahidevran and treat Isabelle the way he did Hurrem, I thought 'this is nuts!' I thought he was supposed to be passionately in love with Hurrem, having even breaking tradition by marrying her, and letting her stay in the palace even after she should have left with her sons when they grew older. He had no other after her.

@hollyglightly123 The point is Ms, Meral want to prove his great love and passion by drawing a parallel line in love with the same characteristics of the woman he loved and may be superior so he will be in real exam with his feelings ,who will win? of course we all knew that Hurrem will win, but that was the reason that I read it on Why she invent Isabella character, but the end that Isy ended didn't prove any thing at all regarding Ms. Meral point of view.

I missed Isabella Guys , really I missed her, I knew its fictional character and had to go, but WHY in this way and that weak dramatic plot???? plus that as long as the series is fiction why she can't stay more or appear again as long as we dealed with Soap Opera drama, PLease , I hope to show us any reasonable plot about Isabella next episode or in future episodes i will not be demanding, but I am waiting :((( :"(

Suleyman is shown like a magnificent mockery. He has no authority (everyone is working behind his back - especially people whom he suppose to trust the most: Ibrahim, Valide and Hurrem), he is forbidden to be a lover (censorship) and the woman of his dreams is not loving him (just using him). He is not much of a warrior neither, since there is no budget for large battle scenes. He wrote poem or two and made few peaces of jewelry. He has no respect for women whatsoever.

@tashenka11 We can't know the real relationship between Suleyman and Hurrem, but it was very complicated. The harem was a very dangerous place and Hurrem had to use her wits to survive and rise. Did she love Suleyman? In relations between a master and a slave, there is no simple yes and no answers because unequal powers. One big error is calling him "Suleyman." No one would dare do that, even his sister or mother. How much manipulation versus real affection, we will never know.

@TheThorne1 They wanted to show us that his mother and sister respect him , even Valide saying to him "aslanim" sometimes she said Suleyman but she is her mom, but his sister always mentioned him "Hunkarin", I think Hurrem issue is different they wnat to show us how, vulgar and wild personality she is, she didn't afraid from him, they showed us how she has a stronh influence on him, because of that she simply calling him "Suleyman".

@lamujerable Great to hear from you in your new persona! The protocol was VERY formal, as I read. His mother would only call him Aslanim or Hunkarim, maybe not even Evladim [my son. I'm not sure. She would not dare call him Suleyman, even in private. Also, she would kiss his hand, not him kissing hers. She would rise from a chair to greet him, not the other way around. He is a sultan, she may be his mother, but she is a slave. These are among the many things they get wrong in the serial.

@TheThorne1 I read that also. although it sounds weird for me because its his mom, I know that I judged from my traditions and period of time not him, but its acceptable in the array even its wrong , the non-acceptable is that Hurrem called him Suleyman cuz he loved her, although he loved Mahidevran before but she always telling him "hunkarim".

@lamujerable Another thing they got wrong is that in reality the Valide Sultan was the absolute ruler of the harem, it was completely hers. She had bureaucratic and other staff almost rivaling that of the Sultan himself, so she was a big manager. No one, not even a favorite of the Sultan could go against her will. The Sultan himself would not get involved and dishonor him mother. Remember also that at this time, the harem was not in Topkapi, but in the old palace in the Fetih section of town.

@TheThorne1 Yes but a kind of that happened really in the series , I remebered when Hurrem complained Valide to him, so he told him Valide is the ruler of the harem here, so Hurrem got dissappointed and after that he pleased her and bla bla bla...., yes Hurrem interfered and put herself with comparison with Valide, she annoyed me with that.

@TheThorne1 Yes am with u also, harem issue was something very secret and private , no one know what really happened there, but because it is a fictional drama so let us imagin anything your mind can leads u to think in, thats why the screen writter in my opinion choose that way in narrating such an important period in OTTOMAN empire. Uffffffff really I got bored of the series but at the same time i want to continue watching to see Mustafa, am waiting for him, hoping it will be good.

That is the reason why my expectations were so high - I was hoping to see great development of characters and relations, inner dilemmas, frustrations, fears, conflicts, emotions and limitations - both self induced and imposed by cultural frame, society, religion, social status, feeling of duty. Not cheap, superficial soapy plots and unimaginative intrigues. Sultans' privacy is delicate issue. I realize that. Matter of expectations.

@TheThorne1 One more thing - Suleyman was (as Meral portraits him) attracted to disobedient, perky, strong tempered, daring women such as Hurrem. She behaved vulgar, natural, unrestrained, instinctively - both in public and in bed. He was used to boring, submissive, timid women trained to be quiet, not to have personality and opinion and to please him. He was took by storm because of her being so different and 'alive'. Isabella was like that as well.Plus nobility.It's no coincidence.
