I just rode in a 08 S550! Cruising on the highway and all u hear is very gentle tire noise. No wind noise WHATSOEVER! you feel like you are being isolated from the outside!

I never liked this model Mercedes Benz, it is ugly compared to the earlier S Classes. The back looks good but the front looks far from elegant and luxury, the headlights and general shape of the front just don't do it for me, it does not look luxury.

btw you missed a cool little part of this car, when you open up the rear center console, in the seat back is a little secret compartment where the fridge would be. When you open it up, you can just see the handle at 2:32. I've got an s550, check my video of my garage

@jjchargerboy16 That's because the driver's door is open with the key in the ignition. It's a safety feature so when you open the door to get out, it tells you that you forgot the key. As soon as he takes the key out, it stops.

This new Mercedes is way better than the previous S class but still I prefer the w140 S classes over modern s classes due to its reliability and 1 billion dollars of research and engineering to build this car.

Mercedes spends a couple of million euros every day on research. This S class brought more new technology than any other new car ever made. There's a saying in europe, if you want to know what will be available in your every day car in 10 years, check out the new s class.
@AspireAS5920 Nah, they do. Even the small compact european cars offer what S class had 10 years ago. And even things that NEW S class has, lots of cars have (like pedestrian detection, pre-crash system, line detection, automatic lights/wipers/long beam, seat massage etc).
Kyle when you talk about this car, you sound like me every time I see one. This is my dream car. Maybe one day I will own one. It might not be a new one but it will be new to me. lol I have never driven one. I have the '94 and '04 models but not the new body style. However the only thing that might keep me from buying one is Mercedes's quality. Its not the best and the reviews can support that. :-(

@refresh967 I went to the Mercedes Benz dealership yesterday and checked out the S550. I disagree with you. Firstly the S550 has 80's style gauges. Its analog which is garbage compared to the LS460's Optitron gauges. Second off the leather is not even close to the leather in the LS460. In terms of the front legroom the LS460 has 43.7 inches vs 41.9 on the S550.
Also please dont call it an Avalon. Avalon is not even close (made in USA vs Japan for the LS460). We can call the S550 a Chrysler.

Mercedes Benz are extremely over-rated, I'd take an Lexus LS over an S Class Mercedes Benz any day of the week. Mercedes Benz were once the leaders in luxury, nobody could touch them. That all changed when Lexus arrived, offering better cars at lesser prices, The only thing Mercedes Benz has left is inferior quality to Lexus, brand snobbery and heritage. Because those are the only reasons people still buy their cars.

My 1999 S420 is in the electronics shop right now because the TCM got soaked in transmission oil climbing up wires. They only got it to start but it wont stay running. Car cost $75k brand new. Whoever buys the S550 must be retarded when clearly the LS460 is a much superior vehicle according to JD power, Consumer Reports, etc. MB Sucks.

@xxxoutragexxx Dude if you're 17 and your dad gave you his freakin' S-class Merc, then you have no idea how hard it is to fight tooth and nail to get that first set of wheels. If someone gave me their higher class Mercedes , I would be indebted to them for at least 20 years. I wound not know what to do with it I'd be in such shock. Still, I'd rather work myself to get my own car. Even if it was 15 years old, I'd work to make it run beautifully. It wouldn't matter how cheap it would be.

@scatman0707 I agree with you, having the satisfaction of knowing that you purchased your own car is a amazing feeling. but as you see in the response to the comment refresh967 left i was given it as a reward for what i have achieved at such a young age.... nothing good comes easy if you put in the effort and work hard you will be able to do anything you want and live the lifestyle you would like..

My father as a child was dirt poor and his first piece of chewing gum he had he got off the ground! and the reason i received this as a birthday present is because at the AGE OF 17 i am a FULL TIME INVESTOR, carry a 3.5 GPA without studying and i program/freelance website design. so don't make assumptions ty

bmw 7 series and lexus ls is complete crap compared to this! this is like a privilige just to touch it. i wwent to dealerships today! bmw 7 series sucks badly. and lexus. I HATE IT!. its junk. 80,000 toyota avalon, and its like the worlds most stolen car. the 5 and 7 series had like no legroom and the character lines are so boring and the inside is the exact same as the 1980 ones. and its crap inside. the leg room is terrible. the s class is perfect.

@refresh967 I went to the Mercedes Benz dealership yesterday and checked out the S550. I disagree with you. Firstly the S550 has 80's style gauges. Its analog which is garbage compared to the LS460's Optitron gauges. Second off the leather is not even close to the leather in the LS460. In terms of the front legroom the LS460 has 43.7 inches vs 41.9 on the S550.
Also please dont call it an Avalon. Avalon is not even close (made in USA vs Japan for the LS460). We can call the S550 a Chrysler.

@xxxoutragexxx Are you fukin nuts? I have a Loaded LS460 with title in hand meaning i paid for it no loans.....I also have a 2002 LX470 that i bought brand new. The S550 would cost me what $10-15K more? Anyone who can afford a LS460 can easily pay another $10-15k for a S550. Its not a matter of it costing more. I dont give a sh1t. I wouldnt take a S550 even if it was $57,000 let alone $97,000.

Mercedes Benz are extremely over-rated, I'd take an Lexus LS over an S Class Mercedes Benz any day of the week. Mercedes Benz were once the leaders in luxury, nobody could touch them. That all changed when Lexus arrived, offering better cars at lesser prices, The only thing Mercedes Benz has left is inferior quality to Lexus, brand snobbery and heritage. Because those are the only reasons people still buy their cars.

My 1999 S420 is in the electronics shop right now because the TCM got soaked in transmission oil climbing up wires. They only got it to start but it wont stay running. Car cost $75k brand new. Whoever buys the S550 must be retarded when clearly the LS460 is a much superior vehicle according to JD power, Consumer Reports, etc. MB Sucks.

i don't think this is a very well optioned s class. its missing a lot of features, but the higher end models do have soft close doors.
