  • dry lube or wax lube i like dry because it doesn't collect as much dirt but seems dry but i don't like to use wet lube while on the trails because of the dirt collecting on the drivtrain which is better

  • i use a shoelace to get in between the cogs and works really well

  • what cleaner are you using

  • I used my girlfriends thong, and man did she get peeved. I suppose I should have had her take them off first.

  • Thanks for posting this dude!

  • 240p… we meet again.

  • very cool dude, thanks a lot.

  • Good video, thanks!

  • Thanks for the video! It was very helpful.

  • fuckin weirdo

  • i used to clean my chain with my bike upside down!

  • Thanks!

  • informative and entertaining, thanks.

I was gonna go out and buy that auto chain cleaner but I like to maintain my bike regularly so I dont think I need that much stuff. About 10-15 minutes, a rag, some degreaser like Simple Green, some water, and some teflon dry lube works really well.

  • One of the comments mentioned Kerosene. Avoid using harsh chemicals like that, follow the advice in the video, something really light. Kerosene would eat up the factory lube in the pins, that would actually ruin your chain.

Water is okay on the bike, as long as you dry it and lube it after, some sun would also work for drying out your drivetrain parts.

    Awesome thanks for the vid!

  • you can still clean the chain while bike ison ground, just turn it backwards

  • true that

  • Butt load.

  • this is hilarious

  • Not so hard to clean if you have a fixed gear bike.

  • @Ghostkid202 Yes, very true.

  • @Ghostkid202 Are most of your actions constrained by your need to do the bare minimum?

  • Not sure how I feel about using water to rinse off a chain. I would use kerosene instead. It is a great solvent, so it will dissolve out all the petrol products you pick up on the road and a lot of grime will go with it. THEN lube the chain.

  • lmfao hahahaa

  • the only problem with my bike is my bike lube is a black spray!

  • i think using a tooth brush is better.

  • i like the idea of having a machine doing all the work, but i find after i give my chain a good time of attention with any brush, the dirt comes back after a full revolution in my stand. i literally take my chain apart (one inner and outer plate) and clean it with degreaser and a crap load of paper towels.after a revolution,, no dirt. and to reply to whenthesunsleeps777, i agree with peaceandlove, its only good for roadies.

  • Good video but they left out one thing... to evenly coat the casette and the chain, you should run the chain through all of the gears. Just keep pedaling and slowly shift through all of the gears until everything is evenly coated... then wipe excess lube off your chain. I wouldn't leave it up to "centripetal force" haha

  • uhm, don't you want to add the lube from the inside? so that when you spin your chain, the centripetal force will force it outward... anyway.....

  • Centripetal force acts inwards, not outwards. You are thinking of centrifugal force, which doesn't exist.

  • opppsssss.... hehehe, i mean centrifugal force (i am a biophysics major and i can't believe i had that mixed up).....

and yes, centrifugal force does not exist but putting the lube from the inside allows the tangential force to pull the lube towards the inside where the wax is most important

  • It's centrifugal, not centripetal. haha.

  • @drswiftus I was gonna say the same thing lmao. Centripetal force is not whats spreading the lube haha

  • Comment removed

  • @drswiftus lol. yes, but since he's spinning it backwards, then it's ok.

  • I use simple green and a spray bottle of water to clean with. The next day a light coat of lube.Works great!

  • Everyone use WHITE LIGHTNING. I find it the best solution :)

  • but it leaves you raw in the rain, you'll rust shut in a month. White lightning is only good for track guys; but then they don't get dirty in the first place.

  • ahh that whole!!!!!

  • I bought something called GT-85 Bike Lubricant 400ml

Can you tell me if i can use this to lube my bike chain. Cheers

  • Don't use wd40, it doesn't last very long and is a very thin lubricant, better off using something designed as a chain lubricant.

  • @thebiketube Is it alright to use a light-duty industrial degreaser to degrease the drivetrain? I see many bike maintenance videos using bike-specific degreasers which is very costly and impractical for me. I own a Scott road bike and hope that someone can advise me on what to do. I won't use WD40 too.

  • @thebiketube wd40 is more of a degreaser really .. if u use it to clean ur bike then lube it up , it actually works very well

  • can u use wd40
