No, no he wasn't. Shaq was better from his 2nd year on, but he wasn't better in his rookie year. Dwight averaged similar numbers while being more efficient from the floor, drawing more fouls, as well as being a better defender.

Shaq in his prime is better than any other center in their prime, in the history of the nba. Shaq s vertical was incredible for a guy 7 foot 1 and 350 POUNDS!!!!! The guy does not get enough credit for averaging 30 points, nearly 14 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 blocks, and 57 percent shooting from the field. Look at those DOMINANT numbers. The two greatest centers of from the modern era (90's to now) are clearly Shaq and Hakeem Olajuwon. Dont forget that Olajuwon BEAT Shaq in the 1995 nba finals.

Kobe would of been a nobody if he hadn't played along side Shaq. keep in mid, while Shaq was dominating the game and leading the Lakers, Kobe was still improving as a medium type level player.
