Arberry is referring to Rumi (Not the quran) but the most curious one is Goethe lol but then the great thing about literature is that it is NOT dogma hence goethe view makes little difference to me. BTW Goethe poems are far better then anything the quran can muster up

Creator of the universe and everything in it, Creator of the seen and the unseen. We communicate with him directly, not through a son or a spirit or saints or patrons.
