Hey, can anyone tell me how often this happens with new 360 slim models? I'm getting really close to finally buying one and catching up with the rest of the gaming world.. lol BUT I don't wanna buy something that's just gonna break down fast.

@soridosuneku Hey same here, i dunno how reliable these new XBOX 360 S models are. But from all the videos i have seen from people having issues, its mainly from when they first launched. So my guess is the same S models being produced now might be better from the the ones that were first launched. I'm getting an S tomorrow. Check out Walmart .com they have a great deal. A 4GB S model, with 2 wireless controllers and your choice of game (mine Forza 4) all for $229.99. Well good luck man.

Never use a cooler for Xbox 360 it sometimes jackes it up.. I tested it and my Xbox did get the RROD.. And it's the new one!

Also, my monitor is a LG flatron E2241 about 3 to 5 pounds. I'm pretty sure the new slim xbox isn't supposed to have weight on it.

They fixed the RROD with the 2009 or 2008 Elite black xbox (not the first elite from 2007)

Plus thanks for the tip, ill try it. I got the red dot and just restarted the system, then it went away for 3 weeks and came back today. The hhard drive issue might be related to my newer xbox freezing as well.

I could of also caused it because i sat my monitor on my xbox to play and that somehow could've loosened the HDD.

Noooooooooo!!! Don't shake your hard drive like that!!! That's really, really, really bad for it!!! By shaking it you could cause the sensor arm to touch the platen. Not a good thing! Just unplug and re-insert the HDD in your Slim.

this very thing happened the day i bought my brand new slim, i thought i got RROD, but all i did was turn it off quickly, then turn it back on. Not saying that fixed it as chances are i most likely bumped into it while cutting it back on. So the ring dot is nothing to worry about if you know what you're doing. The RROD? Another story entirely.

i found my 7yr broke the plastic off from the usb port in the front of the xbox causing it to short out, causing the red dot of death on the slim check ur usbs first get a think screw driver bend the prung away from each other ur just plug a usb cord in it will

READ, I'm not a ps3 fanboy so listen up so the reason for the console having the red ring is for it overheating like you might know by now. BUT the new one still has the same issue. IT IS THE SAME CONSOLE in HARDWARE they just made it smaller.

it has the same chance if getting it as the 360 elite but the elite didn't know what to do at the point of it overheating so it just broke making the red ring of death. the new consoles detect the overheating and stop it from happening by shutting down

@MrAppleMacUK actually it doesn't have the same over heating problem because at the bottom off the console it doesn't get as much air or coldness so on the elite the put heat conductors on the bottom to absorb the heat but it didn't do a good job so on the new model they have put the bit that is usually on the bottom on the top so i doesn't over heat

@kiya611 the power brick? (the giant adapter) try this trun the xbox off (if its on) take the cable off the xbox (for the adapter) and remove the cable from the brick and from the outlet let it cool for a while and put it back again

If you have the new xbox 360 slim and you have red dot of dead unplugg it and put it back in and the hard dive also and if it seal dose not work then buy a power brick for the xbox 360slim on ebay for $21.00 free shipped and then it will work

According to an Engadget post, which posted pictures of a "red dot of death" on its site, the new Xbox 360 constantly evaluates itself for overheating issues. If the console doesn't get as much ventilation as it needs to operate properly, a red light is displayed in the middle of the power ring, and the console shuts down by itself.
