In this case; Blu was meant to overcome his fear of flying and become what he was always meant to be while simultaneously coming to terms with his unexpected interest for the supposedly 'headstrong' Jewel. Unfortunately, the movie producers completely missed the mark. Which is surprising, really, since I did so love Ice Age.
