  • this was lovely! the chamber winds ensemble i direct in Phoenix will be performing Bird's Wind Serenade in Eb op. 44 this March -- amazing Bird isn't better known, given how important he was in American Music History. This piece reminds me very much of what he does in the slow movement of his Serenade: outline a theme that sounds just like a popular parlor tune of its day (Stephen Foster comes to mind....). Great stuff, please post more!
