I don't know, I think what it lacks in gravity and omen, it has a certain charm to it. Don't think of it like Cohen's, let it paint the picture of some seedy casino or something, revelling in debauchery as the world burns. It's an interesting take on it.

Cohen is great and Rufus is okay, but this combination is atrocious in my opinion. The song is about the wretchedness of the world, so, yeah... you should probably slow it down and sing it with some gravitas.

OMG, Rufus makes this song sound like it should be sung by Desi Arnaz back in the 50's. I'm waiting for a "Babaloo".

i haven't heard this song before so i have no idea how the original should be sung... but i really loved this version. i'm off to listen to the original and see the difference. ... but i think rufus is an excellent artist. not everybodies taste i am sure, but I think he's fantastic.

He does the best version in my opinion. Dynamic control is excellent, his range is superb, his tone is perfect for the piece, and his on-stage persona is great. Hard to top.

That's sad. it isn't an identity. he is foremost a human being, not a gay human being. Look at the precedent. By Defnition, gay ain't a lispy man-diva, it's a man who likes men. A preference. Nothing more. The rest is for attention. Gay pride parade? Wheres the straight pride parade? Black history month? Where's white history month?
