@simwarn when i was living in the state i really believed that china is a worst place to live on earth, cuz i've never been there, most of my time is either in Hong Kong or U.S. and i went to china and things seems to changed how i look at china. people seem to be real nice to me somehow, sometimes feeling sad for some poor chinese that's living there..

Really, science and exploration is only funded by 2 things. War and economics. Why did America go to the moon? Because America was at war with the Russians. Why were the Americas discovered? I am chinese, I am a big fan of him returning to China, but had Chinese not being so badly mistreated in the world, would China even need him? as much as I would love to believe he decided to return before they mistreated him, this is not the case, you can argue "what if" but that still isn't what happened so you are the one trying to avoid fact.
reality is never that prefect to give him the option to choose, he never had the chance! there is no liberty.

I agree with your point to a certain extent. But an educated person cannot deny the amount a importance politics plays in scientific advancement. and yes, i think it should matter who's building the stuff. Just like how the Nazi's built the V1 bomb and the American's built the atomic bomb. Another important factor is that just because its science, doesn't make it innocent. Yes its just a space station, but it opens the door to potentially dangerous side effects, whether its desired or not.

i agree with your sentiment but i would remind you that nasa is merely outsourcing space haulage to third parties. they are far from winding down the program. I would like to also point out that political machination will not be planet bound. if you look at most wars and conflicts in history, they tend to be about land and resources. there is lots out there up for grabs and earth is still factional. there will be more wars and many battles will be on other planets and orbiting space stations.

Modern rocket science was born basically in Europe. Did Chinese use rocked engines to fire crackers? And Arabs didn't invent rockets, they learned from Mongols. Rocket science (solid, liquid fuel) as such was developed in Europe and USA. Chinese have "borrowed" very much from Russians and now USA.
