Thanx for posting, another fine example of what made WML great.
I blame Pat Boone for losing this game. He sang beautifully; he enjoyed big success in this period, but talk about difficulties asking one question after another.
Arlene comes THAT close ( 7:35 ) to getting it and tosses it way.
Not just another pretty face. He possessed a pleasant singing voice and achieved rather a lot of success in his chosen field (he was earning $750, 000 in the late 1950s - a huge sum for those days).
Reading his bio at Wikipedia, it also seems that he is a bit of a nutcase. An example: "In early 2007, Boone wrote two articles claiming that the theory of evolution is an "absurd," "nonsensical" "bankrupt false religion." He later wrote an editorial in the form of a fairy tale where a young Prince Charming was seduced by a dwarf, got AIDS, and then overdosed."
Fenhalls, meaning no disrespect to you, I feel I must gently remind you that income does not necessarily provide an accurate indicator of intelligence.
Perhaps not (I stress the "perhaps" because in most instances it does suggest the individual is possessed of at least a certain type of high intelligence, although no doubt it is a great comfort to the poor and ne'er-do-wells to think otherwise), but it is indicative of a rather successful career and adds weight to my contention that he was more than just a pretty face.
Also, the notion that because a guest panelist didn't play the game very well, he or she must have been an idiot is plain absurd. The resident panelists had had years to hone their skills.
Im interested in getting a copy of this clip. Larry French is my dads brother. He has never seen this clip before. We just found it on here today. Larry was killed in a car accident many years ago.
She says "he has been defeathered" at 7.38

@khtx Inoculation is putting a vaccine into an animal's body, so it's roughly the same.

Did Bennett refer to him as Mr. France?

Many thanks for posting this seafree. I really do enjoy these non-celebrity WML clips.

@Fenhalls The non-celebrity ones are my favourite. Somehow they just come out a whole lot funnier :)

Did I miss something? Who has a great singing voice?

Pat Boone. I made that comment when Fenhall and I discussed Pat Boone.

Do you know when this episode was aired?
I ask because it made me think of the hilarious episode from the 5th of October 1958:
Bennett Cerf asked a sheep shearer if she "plucked sheep" - which obviously made the entire theatre howl with laughter :D
I wonder if that is what he's referring to at 6.08...
ijustwanttosing 3 years ago
at 6:08 Cerf does indeed refer to the Sheep plucking incident. This episode was broadcast a few months later, early 1959.
