@GenevaxD I agree! Bill's reaction to Tara's question was interesting. The writers probably wanted to establish that his mindset was still in the past when slavery was the norm. Although back then when he had his own family, he didn't own slaves which may mean that he didn't believe in the institution. Still, his answer was said without feeling or consideration to Tara, an obvious decendant of slaves, which is probably expected because he is in fact a vampire.
