  • helped me a lot I have a student teacher who sucks at teaching!!

  • i want you as a teacher

  • WHAT IF B IS NOW NEGATIVE IN THE 1ST STEP...IT STAYS LIKE THAT?

  • I LOVE YOU WITH ALL MY HEART MARRY ME MARRY ME MARRY ME♥ YOU HAVE SAVED MY LIFE FOREVER♥

  • But I don't understand what happens with the number at the end .. The 6 and the -1

  • @shelbby24 you would graph the two numbers on the X axis of a graph. Then connect the two points with a U shape. Beyond that I have no clue.

  • Thank you thank you!!!!! Thumbs up if you are watching this before exams!!

  • So I know we're absolutely not using complex numbers, but my algebra 2 teacher does and I'm super confused so could there ever be a video exploring them :)?

  • @ndoyle1407 yes, maybe do a search of ' complex quadratic ' or ' imaginary quadratic ' or something like this on my channel

  • @ndoyle1407 complex numbers uses the number "i". "i" is the square root of -1. i^2 is the just -1. So instead of using the square root of -40, you would say 4+-i (square roots of) 40

  • THAnks so much Patrick! you just got me through my ore-cal hw and I'm pretty sure i'll do really well on my test tomorrow now!

  • Thumbs up if you think this guy is an excellent teacher

  • OMG dude, you're so good!

  • hey you can square a negative number cause it is is imaginary so you take out the i which is the negative number

  • I love you, PatrickJMT.

  • Thank u

  • My 8th grade teacher told us a story to remember this whole thing: The negative boy (-b) couldn't decide (+/-) to go to the party. The boy was square (put a b-squared inside the square root symbol) and missed out (-) on 4 awesome chicks (4ac). The party was over (all of the stuff prior on a division bar) at two in the afternoon (under the bar, put 2a). This is just a story to remember the second equation at 0:28.

  • Awesome that all I have to say

  • apart from being a totally awesome teacher, one thing i really like about you is your voice has that soothing effect that does not let mathematics seem to be the boring old goofy subject it actually is! ;-)

  • @ahmadu007 boring and goofy? no way

  • Hello from Mr.C's class at Pioneer high school

  • very helpful. thanx. i had no idea how to do it but now i do

  • This is really helpful! and by the way, your voice sounds like Danny Pudi.:)

  • Thanks great help! makes sense FINALLY!!!

  • omg thank you soo sosososossoooo much !

  • nice handwriting

  • Thanks to you! Now I fully understand this!! ^_^

  • Better than my teacher!

  • hi there, how can you use the quadrratic formula in this problem?

    0.0815 = (-x) (-(x) / (0.09 mo/L + x) 2

  • I LOVE YOU! thanks learned ALOT!!!

  • I studied in advance <3

  • I really understood this soooooooooo much! Bravo Mr. patrickJMT7!

  • -2+2 = 0 not -1

  • @Senagic If you are looking at the -2/2 bit then it is -1. I don't think there is a point that he says -2+2

  • Your sooooooo much more understandable than my school teacher!!

  • u r god

  • thank u very much u are very helpful

  • u hav a fuckin soothin voice

  • @patrickJMT how come whenever i type (-5) squared into the calculator, i get (-25) ?

  • Thanks! Really helped me out with my homework :)

  • nice left handed that gives me luck and thank you for the great teaching your so much better than my teacher at school

  • thanks your vid helpped out alot

  • u sir, are now on my epic people list! next to Chuck Norris and Billy Mays :D thanks!

  • But what if your problem is P^2=144? i know itd have to be P^2-144 but would that make A=1 and B=-144 then what about C???

  • thankx bro- u got me my XBox back!!!

  • Factor in an i

  • thanks... u are a life savor!

    I am a tutor and just could not remember how to graph using the quadratic formula, and equations.

    got it crystal clear now!

    U rock

  • great vid man realy simple thanks

  • thanks for the videos on these

  • lol 5 people could not solve either equations xD

  • I used to hate algebra. After I could solve them, I started to like them. In fact, it is my strongest topic in maths now. TYVM!!!

  • this is so confusing!!!!!!!!!!!! i aperciate your help.

  • this is so confusing!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • this has nothing to do with math but i like your hands lol they seem soft. im not trying to weird you out but yeah lol sorry if i appear weird

  • @lilsydonia as you can see the man is married he has a wedding ring on seriously you mention his hands being soft..FREAK!

  • what if they give your the vertex and the point? how do you solve that

  • what if they give your the vertex and the point

  • if, nearer to the end of solving the equation, you dont get a whole number for the square root, does that mean the the problem can still be solved or can the final answer be in decimals?

  • @matthenbro yes, you can still solve it; you can approximate the root using decimals if needed

  • this has been very helpful

  • Thank you so much for all your help!!

    Just wondering, what would be the answer if you used complex numbers?

  • THANX IS GONNA HELP ME WITH MY FINAL TOMORROW :}

  • what if you cant get a perfect square root?

  • @orly360 why does that matter

  • @orly360 if you have a calculator just bang it in there, if not then it probably wont be a question

  • OMG like seriously in in love with you. <333

    you just might save me from failing a test tommorrow.

  • I had this on my test 2day and I had no idea what i was doing....thats why Im here but its still tooo confusing!!

  • @modernlifeisrubishhh (-5) squared is positive

  • @patrickJMT What if you use Complex numbers? I think you change negative sign by " i " so

    i = -

    Am i Right ?

  • @045632 i^2 = -1 ; but yes, if there is a negative under the radical, you can pull it out as ' i '

  • @modernlifeisrubishhh by the way, TYPING THINGS WITH ALL CAPITAL LETTERS does not magically make it correct

  • @patrickJMT He meant -5^2, and, according to order of operations, it is -(5^2) which makes him correct.

    With parenthesis, (-5)^2 = +25 so he's wrong. Parenthesis are what you used in the video.

    By the way you should prove the quadratic formula works by pluggin the number (-b +- sqrt(b^2-4ac))/2a as x into the equation ax^2 + bx + c and after simplifying many equations you get zero. I tried doing that and failed.

  • @modernlifeisrubishhh -5 x -5 is 25 dude

  • @modernlifeisrubishhh are you stupid?

  • You just saved my life <3

  • what if the number under the square root is not a perfect square? like -2±√88/6 ? how can i solve it? need reply fast thx.

  • What if the number in the square root sign is negative?

  • @Libertymoonbeam220 it means you have complex solutions (but no real solutions)

  • Can this be used on polynomials in C? I assume you just use the imaginary components as the coefficients as normal, but from what I've seen of mathematics so far, things are never usually that simple.

  • I have the equation down, it's just under the radical that's sketchy for me. I don't know the problem off hand, but I end up with a number over 2,000 under the radical. It seems to me that I should be able to simplify...but i don't know where to go from there...any suggestions?

  • How do you give your answer correct to two decimal places?

  • Hey, what is it you mean by complex numbers? numbers such as sole double negatives... If that even makes sense. Just curious, am here recapping my A-level maths for a headstart in my biochemistry course, may come in handy :P thanks.

  • nice job thnx alot.

  • Great job on this... You are a good teacher. Luckily, the quadratic formula isn't TOO tricky and is quite easy actually. I think it's funny how you respond to criticism.

  • thankk you(:

  • @Avatar9023 well, then, a is negative. it does not make any difference what the numbers are, the formula works the same.

  • Hey man thanks for these videos-- really nice of you to do this and post it for free on YouTube. Much appreciated.

  • Lets say i have :

    -2x^2+6x-20=0

    -2(x^2+6x-20)=0

    6/2^2=9

    -2(x^2+6x+9)-9+20=0

    -2(x^2+9)+11=0

    so now i need to square root my entire problem?

    ..___________

    Vx^2+9)+11=0

    so i get (x+3) but how do i square root 11? (the same question for 3 and all other numbers that can't be squared down)

  • @Th4toneguy just leave it sprt (11) ; or use a calculator

  • Comment removed

  • thank u so much i am starting to understand quadratic formula and equation much better now

  • Woaw, awesome. Thank you for that incredible explanation. Good job! Good luck and God bless. :)

  • YOU ROCK ! you make sense of it all ! thanks a bunch smart fellow !

  • Wow I learned something! Unlike on our class. Thanks.

  • @unwanted94 this was my class! my teacher just plays a bunch of these videos instead of teaching us himself!

  • The only reason I would be watching this video is because my teacher can't teach

  • damn math!

    I hate schoooool! fuck it

  • thank you this hepls with some of the problems ill have on my math final tommorow

  • Thanks got my maths gcse today.

  • Can you solve this for me, 2asquared-46a+252=0

  • Comment removed

  • Thanks man, my math teacher is a fucking idiot.

  • i bloody love you! you have saved my life dude!

  • thanx this saved my life

  • hello fist of all how are u doing

    well i have a question i not a very good math man as u may say but where does the -4 come in or better yet how did u get -4 im a little lost

  • @ELPECADORISMRSANCHO1 negative four is part of the quadratic formula..its ALWAYs there. hope that helped :)

  • YOU ARE A LIFESAVER!!

  • I just learned more in your 6 min video than in hours of classes on the subject, thank you for your help sir.

  • can you solve quadratic inequalities using quadratic formula?

  • Hey Patrick, using my brother's account here to refresh math and really improve my comprehension and skills--many thanks.

  • These videos always help. I need to hear it explained from different angles to understand. Its a like the puzzle pieces are coming together.

  • what if theres no c is it considered 1?

  • @fourarms325 then it is not considered a tri nomial and i am also not sure what you are supposto do then.

  • @fourarms325 I know that was almost a year ago, but:

    If there is no c, it is zero. If you have ax^2 + bx = 0, then there are two solutions:

    x = -b/a

    x = 0

    If a = 0, the first one doesn't work and the only solution is x = 0. If a AND b are equal to zero then x can be anything. Hope this helps. :) Personal message me if you want further explanation.

  • thanks i kinda slept a lot during this but i need help with the complex. i know you take the i out of -40 but after that i get confused. :/

  • actualy when u have a negative under the radical sing u can solve it..-40 would end up being 4√10i

  • hey any one here can solve this question ? cause its has and negative 3.

    Here's the question:

    3x^2-2x-5=0

    a=3,b--2,c=-5

    x=-b+√b^2-4ac/2a

    =-3+√(-2^2-4(-3)(-5)/2(3)

    and i am really stuck here at a moment so one here knows how to solve ? Please i really a quick reply you guys =D

  • "we are not using complex numbers :)"

    DAMN IT! that's what i was waiting for :/

  • yes you dont break down the factoring process when you show (x-6) (x+1) but hey thank you ,i am not critisising excellent just want to know more you clearly make it all understandable thanks

  • what if its like c=x^2+b??

    plz help

  • @MrWowh then you move c over by subtracting it from both sides becoming x^2+bx-c

  • :o ty

  • Thank you, my teacher never even explained this to us at all. What a retard. He just gave us the work and taught only half of it. He never went into detail on how to get the answer.

  • thanks

  • thanks for teaching..i learned

  • i never thought i can use my youtube acct. like this it really help me THANK YOU

  • I like your way of explaining it makes it so much easier to understand than the way my teacher does it. Like the way you said the c was just the number hanging out lol ^_^

  • Yo! Thx for helping me solve this quadratic equation:D Now I'm confident that I will do well in my Math Placement Test!

  • HA! mrs.mcdaniel thought she would stump me with this on the midterm!

    i gotta 199 out of a possible 200.HELL YEA,thanks dude....the one i missed was to define a quadratic formula -_-

  • thanks!

  • I owe you my life!

  • Thank you sir.. I owe you BIGTIME..

  • help me with the math?

  • No its not, -5 multiplied by -5 is positive 25. when you multiply two negatives, you get a positive. Therefore its not possible to get a negative solution.

  • You are right about that, but it works differently here. -5^2 can be rewritten as -(5^2) and following the order of operations for that equivalent expression gives you -25. You can also google it.

  • Ohh I see, thanks!

  • Howdy and hello -

    you are very good with prercal and if I need help I will come to you so het great job long live the math .

    yourfriend-ray-

  • I am taking the college math CLEP test tomorrow and you are officially my Mathmatics Hero. Thanks!

  • Awesome.awesome. I never saw very easy explanation like what you do. Good job

  • glad you like it! : )

  • Thank You

    You really know how to take a difficult subject

    and explain it so people understand.

  • Man you guys must have it hard because i'm in year and this is the first time I've heard this stuff

  • THANK YOU

    im in 7th grade and have an algebra test today and i forgot how to do this

  • IF THERE WAS 1 VIDEO ON YOUTUBE THAT I COULD TRUELY SAY "THIS SAVED MY LIFE" TO....THIS WOULD BE THAT VIDEO

    -chea ya boi

  • DUDE! Thank you! I've got my math final in 2 days, wednsday May 20. Get this, 6th grade! Fricin Quadratics in 6th grade!!!

  • WTF!!!! im in eight and where doing that, have my big test tommorow

  • haha same but i have a final tomrw..... fml....

  • well you can use imaginary numbers as well square root of -40 is equal to 40 time i

    i is an imaginary number refering to square root of -1 by using i you can come up with a simplified solution which most teachers will be looking for from grade 10 and beyond

  • ok...

  • Yeah notice he said, "Not using complex numbers"

    Im pretty suregetting into imaginar/non-real numbers are imaginary

    Dealing with stuff that is... (off the top of my head)

    a=1

    b=2

    c=3

    where

    x= -1 +- √(2)i

    would be a whole new video

  • @HaloSoccerFanatic Actually...i^2 is equal to -1. i alone means nothing only when it is squared. Nice video @patrick jmt i watch your videos very often!

  • thx 4 ur help my teacher doesnt explain it well so me and my mom wur stuck but thx 2 u we got it

  • I have been so lost until now! I really appreciate what you have done.Thank You!!I

  • thanks a lot!!!my teacher did not know how to teach. she would just call on someone in the class to do it and then we would move on.

  • Good video.

  • excellent, I favorited it

  • i really appreciate your teaching on quadratic equation and the quadratic formula, but give more problems solving the quadratic equation on the formula. In addition, explain on more about completing the square as well, thanks. From GODZILLA

  • i realli don't fink wht u ar doing is right cuz u don't get the 0 when u get the X????

  • Blah Quadratic formulas

    Im currently doing this in math-

    you should make a video about discriminants.

  • dont go hatin' on my quadratics.

    they should be called 'quad-radical' cause they are that cool.

    maybe i will bust out some discriminant stuff soon!

  • Quad-radical ...

    SURE ;

  • LOl Quad-radical

  • is this Algebra I?

    i learned a catchy song i A1 last year for this formula. if i ever get a vid camera, i'll tape it and put it up on UTube.

    thanks man!

    ps. are u on facebook. just asking, you don't have to answer though

  • yes, algebra stuff!

    i have heard there is a catchy song.. although i never heard it myself or looked for it : ) i have a funny story about the quadratic equation and a tattoo though! : )

    no, not on facebook... feel free to drop me a line any time here though!

  • no offense, but, what is your job?

    i mean u absolutley love math so, does it deal with math?

  • yes, it deals with math: i am a math tutor first and a math teacher second.

    i teach 13 credit hours worth of classes, and tutor about another 20 hours per week!

  • you should come to my school and teach

    your explaining skills are much better than mine

    XD

  • I mean "mine" is my teacher =)

  • @patrickJMT AWESOME!...... you what. i really hate math. and that's too bad for me to understanding something hard when math comes.. :(. but anyways. thanks for your nice video. it really helped me alot. :))
