early days of cinema. The sheer success of his movies won't be the death of anybody or the fall of mankind's intellectualism. Their just silly entertainment to pass the time. This isn't to imply I like all of his movies though, but for the most part I enjoy the heck out of them, their like pizza and ice cream. Of course you can't have them all the time, but you can't have broccoli( Artsy fartsy stuff) all the time, or you'll get gas. And hey, no film going diet is complete without some cheese.

...Is that a derogatory term? I enjoy his films. They're entertaining, and I never really get the sense that he tries to do anything with his films other than be entertaining. If I got the sense that he was TRYING to have meaningful character interactions or plot developments and still made the movies he did it would be a different story, but in the case of Transformers, I don't understand what people expected to get from that film other than eye candy.

And a director directs the movie.He shapes the whole film. He leads the actors and crew when making a film and is in charge of the artistic and dramatic elements of the movie. When it comes to blowing shit up and creating disaster scenes, Micheal Bay is king, but when it comes character interactions, scene editing, and story progress, he falls flat on his face.
You almost sound like a Bay lover the way you're defending him.

Producers who might say, "we're funding this film so one of your main characters has to be one of our cars", or maybe the military who might want things portrayed a certain way. Or toymakers who say, we want two stupid comic relief characters with racial accents in the movie because the toys are already made. Not everything is under his control.
