  • ohHHH defo 5/5 for this artist...and I must say she looked good here too with the long hair. Very expressive and powerful voice!

  • Thank you so much coloraturafan!!!! You are doing an excellent job on YT!!!!

  • magnifica, straordinaria devia!

  • Coloratura Fan, From my heart I thank you for this and for the many other hours of joy you bring to a sometimes sad life. Music and these videos are balm for the soul, for they show us there is something greater than outselves to aspire to. You should be canonized for all your efforts which are brilliantly realized. Please never stop! Grazie, grazie assai.

  • beautifully expressed sentiment. ditto.

  • beautifully expressed indeed!

  • scenography coming from Heaven- all white symbolising Violetta's finally pure soul. Costume and hair -devia's weak points- fabulous... perfect reading of the aria and fabulously supported piano A flat at the end (the all time famous callas crack wonderfully sung)

  • i guess i love her other performance more. perhaps its the acoustics in that hall. im not sure..im not an expert by any means

  • Thanks for the info coloraturafan. And, if I remember correctly, Sills did sing the second stanza of the aria.

  • Beautiful singing with respect to phrasing, tonal color, and dynamic variation. Both touching and intense vocal as well as dramatic characterization. Devia at her best! 5/5

  • Not a criticism, but I'm just curious whether there is a video of Beverly Sills in this final scene.

  • Yes, there is a video from Washington 1976 with Sills. It is part of a commcerial release from VAI.

  • I'll give my impressions of Devia's performance later, but first I must agree with coloraturafan's response. Indeed we should all be grateful for the time and effort he put into sharing these wonderful videos. I agree about Muzio's great performance (of course, I also love Galli-Curci's), but this is not the proper forum for audio recordings.

  • Coloraturafan, Many thanks for the countless hours of enjoyment your posts have provided me!

  • The least I could have done.... Are you serious? The LEAST I could have done is NOTHING, and NOT shared these videos. The LEAST you could have done is respected the work that went into collecting and posting these videos. So SHAME to you!

  • There are many many users that post audio recording on YT, I am just not one of them. I prefer to upload videos only. I am not aware of a video of Muzio, and so she is not here. I have told people many times before, if you have matterial you want posted, post it yourself.

  • Yes, you're right, there is alot of audio. Now that I know your preference is video, you're forgiven :)). Thanks for all the hard work.

  • Oh.. es espectacular.

  • To mee, she is marginally less successful than she was ten years earlier. Her breath control is less stupendous, but the performance is still wonderful. She is only competing with herself. 5/5

  • Great voice but I'm afraid too much forte for my taste for this aria. Not very inventive in terms of acting, I'd like to see much delicacy. 4.5/3

  • 2/4

  • Beautiful. 5/5

  • Very interesting! You posted a recording from 89' and this one from ten years later in 99', funny enough I think she gets better :)) dramatically this Traviata is one of her best for me, musically... well I think I've stated the obvious many times 5/5

  • As I said, well beyond a contest. She modulates from piano to forte with the utmost ease. Just great! And she sings the second stanza as well! La mejo!
