People attribute it to Roger's greatness, but the truth is, Murray didn't show up for this match until the third set. His first serve percentage in the first two sets was abyssmal. Murray has all the tools to beat Fed in a slam, but his serve has to be there althroughout, and he has to learn to take control of points when possible instead of allowing Fed to dictate so often.

Thats what I think. Remember 2009 Wimbledon? Federer won the first 2 sets vs Kohlschreiber 6-2 6-3 I think and then lost a tie-breaker. Guess what he did in the fourth...he almost bageled the German and that's what would've happened with Murray had he won the 3rd set in the AO final. Federer is just a class above him even now.
What could've, what would've happened if Murray won the 3rd set is pure guessing (I think Federer would still win in 4 but it doesn't matter). He beat him in straight sets and it's not the first time it happened in a slam final. It's a post 2007 Federer we're talking about and from 2008 onwards Federer isn't half as good as he was in 04-07. Murray can still feel lucky he didn't play his first GS final in 04-07 against Federer cause it would be even worse for the Scotsman.

@federer2899 Calling him a twat isn't necessarily fair, I think he was only trying to keep himself mentally motivated because otherwise he wouldnt have even gotten close in any of the sets. I do agree that he had no chance though because when you dont make Fed go out of his comfort zone (what very little exists,) no one can ever beat him.

With Federer carrying on for at least a few years and Nadal in full force, and some new stars like Del Potro emerging, it will only get harder for Murray to get to a final of a major. A GS title may just be too much to ask of him

This match was so so similar to the match between Nadal and murray at Wimbledon... Everyone thought Murray had a chance in both matches and he ends up losing easily in straight sets...

@Jaishankar100 now Federer is playing phenomenally. Ever since AFTER Wimbledon, he's done a great job. He won Cincinnati, made it to the semis of the US, he made it to the finals of Shanghai, won Basel, won the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals losing only one set to Nadal in the finals, and he won Doha last week. 5 months ago, I was questioning if he would be able to live up to his word and possibly win 20+ GS, but now, if he keeps playing like this, i think he can, and regain his #1 ranking

Thats what I think. Remember 2009 Wimbledon? Federer won the first 2 sets vs Kohlschreiber 6-2 6-3 I think and then lost a tie-breaker. Guess what he did in the fourth...he almost bageled the German and that's what would've happened with Murray had he won the 3rd set in the AO final. Federer is just a class above him even now.

What could've, what would've happened if Murray won the 3rd set is pure guessing (I think Federer would still win in 4 but it doesn't matter). He beat him in straight sets and it's not the first time it happened in a slam final. It's a post 2007 Federer we're talking about and from 2008 onwards Federer isn't half as good as he was in 04-07. Murray can still feel lucky he didn't play his first GS final in 04-07 against Federer cause it would be even worse for the Scotsman.

However saying that Fed earned bcz there was no Nadal or Nadal earned slams bcz fed was having bad patch is just not appropriate bcz they are not the only two players aournd the globe but rather have dominated too much. hats off to both players but i personally like fed game bcz he is very modest and aritistic player
