  • Why am I remembering the old Three Stooges bit? "When I nod my head, you hit it!" Gotta trust that partner....

  • I... maybe it's the kind of mochi I tried, but I didn't like it >~< I think mine was that red bean paste kind. Yeah. No. But I'm also not eating authentic mochi, so... :P

  • Mochi is freakin awesome man

  • that's why boys and girls you should never listen to mp3 player while working. You might hit someone head if you space out lol

  • who made mochi in The way of the samurai 3 on xbox or ps3 :D ?

  • mmmm mochi.. one of my favourites

  • i dont really like mochi....but it's very sweet :D

  • "it's just made from rice" oh well, that's surprising xD

  • I had some mochi filled with chocolate sauce once. It was tasty but has texture of soft rubber.

  • you canget them here in the us at asin stores my friend got me hooked n them

  • When I visited Kinosaki there was a (very) small festival being held. It included making mochi. I was even invited to give a few strikes on the mochi with the hammer. I earned myself a round of applause that time (my job involves quite a lot of work with a sledgehammer, so...) People we're even friendly enough to take my camerea and shoot some pictures of me hammering. One of the most wonderfoul things I experienced in Japan.

oh and it tasted very nice to :-)

  • i could watch them make mochi all day, its so entertaining, while secretly ur hoping no ones hands get smashed.

  • hhahah i bought those and i dont realy like it and is soft like a tities no wait even more softner

  • I made this in the Cooking Mama: Cook Off for Wii game lol

  • mochi making is dangerous!

  • I recently had room after dinner at my favorite sushi restaurant for mochi ice cream balls. THEY ARE SO GOOD! Green tea, red bean and strawberry flavored. Mochi balls filled with ice cream and cut in half. I highly recommend them, 'cause it's not too much to eat and they're not too sweet - JUST sweet enough. I love mochi!

  • Awesome. Japanese health sweets. Much love for Japan.

  • Whats he saying as he swings the kine? I cant seem to make it out? Great video btw.

  • @panzertank15 something close to "ei sho"

  • i learned that from cooking mama!!!!!!

  • @MsMegmonster Same here ;D And I always get 'WOW!!' the stage too/

  • Lol was just eating mochi ice cream (mango flavor)

  • 10 people got their fingers smashed by the mochi pestle.

  • i love MOCHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII

  • Who else was waiting for the granny to get knocked the F out?

  • Guy with the mallet starts looking away at the end and I kept imagining him clobbering the old lady comedy style.LOL

  • You spelt your website wrong at the end. :0

  • I had some red bean mochi the other day. It has nothing on profiterole roles.

  • Cool. So this is how they make them. Green Tea Mochi <3 from Katagiri.

Umm this is probably a lot to ask, but I really wish you'd make a video showcasing Japanese sweets street food or shop or bakery. I loveeee sweets and pastries! And I've always wondered how their bakeries looked like, if some of their cakes and sweets are kind of out of the ordinary too. Maybe they're SUPER cutesy w/ pink icing, star shaped springles & stuff like that. ^u^ I know that strawberry crepes are popular there.

  • @KatrinaCabrera

Their bakeries are pretty basic.. but more food videos are coming ^_^

  • @KatrinaCabrera

Their bakeries and pretty basic.. but check out the food play list ^_^

  • I've tried it at the Japanese Fall festival around here. It's pretty good. I was really full though, so I didn't eat all of it. It tastes great.

  • Lol Mochi is Russian slang for kill it and I saw the thumbnail of a guy with a huge hammer I clicked on it but it's completely different thing still great video...

  • Mochi comes in the most amazing number of different styles. I actually like the kind that is unsweetened and you just dip it in a pit of soy sauce and wrap in some Nori. I guess that would be the New year style of Mochi.

I really need to stop watching the food videos.....I'm getting hungry for Japanese food.

  • taaaaaaaaaaaasstyyy! There is also mochi soup on new year, that makes people choke and die :P

  • For a second there I really thought that guy was going to hurt the old woman hand XD

  • WTF i wrote a comment and dont show up. what am I doing wrong?!?!?!?!?!

  • never eat mochi. occasionally eat some manju(I think it is written that way)

a hammer, a hand, and a bowl, bad combination if you ask me

like always, forgive my bad spanglish

  • it looks very tasty! and its cool to see how they make it!

  • I'd want to be the one with the hammer...

  • rice is not really healthy, only when compared to sweets i suppose

  • Excellent Educational video :)

  • They kinda look like marshmallows.

  • that huge hammer i sure they taste great never had some.

  • I'm super hungry now. First time I had this stuff I didn't know if I hated it, or loved it... But I love it.

Need to nom some soon. o _o

  • I love your videos, btw. VERY helpful!!!! And I LOOOOOOOVE mochi. It has such a great taste. Like a subtle sweetness, but not beyond sweet like American sweets. :P Perfect!! Oishi mochi!!!!! <3 I always get a big box of them with different fillings when I go to the Oriental Market. :D My Japanese friend also taught me how to make them homemade with rice flour. Have you tried it like that, or only store bought?

  • @VTh3Final808

    Thanks.

The mochi you saw being made here is as homemade as it gets ^_^

  • @TheJapanChannelDcom

True, true. >_< Silly me. But have you tried it with rice flour? :O It's very good. :)

  • Dude I ALWAYS get strawberry and chocolate ice cream ones. They are soooooo good.

  • Ha ha.. I thought the same thing (Chimera15), it looks dangerous. I wonder if the guy has ever bashed the lady's hand. Man oh man would you hear about that for a long time!

  • Made from rice. What a surprise. Lol.

  • looks like a workout O_O How long do it usually take to make it ?

  • I just had Mochi ice cream for the first time on monday at a japanese resturant called Takara in my hometown. the strawberry was good, but didn't care for the green tea one.

  • the made that into a anime character in monster ranchers right?

  • Maaan...We have a Japanese grocery store in our city and I fell in LOVE with mochi after trying it at a Japanese Festival that's held in our city every fall. Soooo, I go to the Japanese grocer all the time and get Mochi. However, right now...it's 4 am, and the store is closed...and I can't get any. And I'm pregnant which just makes my cravings even stronger. I'll have to send the hubby out for some when the store opens up.

  • Nice.

  • So that`s what it`s called, i bought one from a store in Chinatown a year ago knowing nothing else about it other than that it was Japanese. Mochi it is then.

  • Mochi is pretty good though of course i made the mistake of taking a big bite of it, my jaw started to hurt actually. I dont remember how long it took me to eat it. Im warning all who eat it that it is really chewy...at least it was from the place I went to lol ^.^ ...But seriously it's good you should try it. Oh mine was filled with peanuts..I think.

  • So then it just tastes like... rice. Doesn't it?

  • I luv mochi <3 its very nummy. but I think it is usually made from glutenous rice flour. It's probably healthier than desserts like cake or ice cream, but I wouldn't call it a particular "health food."

  • I've had mochi before...it's good, but def really chewy!

  • Itadakimasu!

  • They look tasty! :)

  • That guy probably has the grip strength of a gorilla if he does that all day.

  • I want some :p

  • i remember watching this being done by 4 people 3 people hitting it and another folding it now that was dangerous

  • Looks liek icecream

  • Mochi! One Japanese food that I really don't like! :D

  • Make sure you chew mocchi well before swallowing

You can die while choking on this awesome food!

  • Mochi is one of the most awesome food I have ever tasted! :D

  • Mmm... I love mochi! It's widely available here in Hawaii. There are all different types: chocolate, tropical, sweet potato, butter, peanut butter, poi, etc. Even oreo mochi! It's been one of my favorite treats since small kid time.

Don't forget to eat mochi for good luck on New Year's, too. :)

  • you guys. XD some people are able to make that 10 times faster than shown in the video.

  • Good stuff. I got an asortment box of mochi from a local import store last year. Some of it was really yummy and some was....well.....not so much so.

  • ahh yes looks yummy!!!! something i would like to eat hehe

  • Thumbs up.

  • i want some

  • i saw a video like this, except they were moving about 8 times faster, it was incredible!

  • mochi is sooo yummy!!

  • OMG!!! I LOVE MOCHI!!! I've had a red bean mochi ball. Trader Joes sells Mochi Ice Cream balls (chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, mango, and green tea). I love them! Thank you so much for this informative vid! I never knew how they were made. I'm sure the commercialized ones in the supermarket are not made this way. Oh, how I would love a home-made mochi ball! Cheers! :)

  • haha for some reason I keep thinking of cooking mama where you can hit your hand if you don't time it right, I like ice cream mochi

  • They have that worked into a art form don't they! I wonder if anyone has ever been injured in making that though...

  • Ermm....my daughter and I bought some and it is an acquired taste. Not wanting to waste food, we fed it to my moms dog....but even the dog spit it out. :/

  • it looks so delicious ! i want one :D

  • I love Mochi...especially with the red bean paste inside. A Question: In Japan can u buy red bean paste or is it something a person has to make?

  • wow how to they do so much with rice?

  • Green Tea mochi is sooo good... It's sweet, but not overly so. o3o

  • I really like mochi!

I went to a sushi bar recently and they served a dark chocolate mochi with chocolate filling too! They looked just like truffles, so tasty.

    Thank you for the video!

  • I remember having that stuff in Salt Lake City, it was this really nice Japanese restaurant named Mikado. Sure it was one of the most expensive treats I had but filled with ice cream it tasted extremely good!

  • I wouldn't want my hand getting hit by that thing. >_< Scary!! XD

  • Looks dangerous. lol I wonder how many people go to the hospital every year cause they missed the timing. lol

  • @chimera15 lol i was going to say just that.

  • @chimera15 Even more people die every year because they choke on those things at new years..

  • @chimera15 no pain no game :p btw, even though japan is famous for techology, they always keep their traditions, and their activities. which makes them healthy. American so much depends on techology , have no physcial ability.

  • it looks yummy!

  • Woot! Daifuku is amazing!

  • release your anger!!! and make the best mochi ever!!!

  • That looks like a lot of work...

  • omg only 1 thumbs down? Did two of your haters quit? :D And thanks for the informational video.... I love home made mochi my neighbour use to make for us before we moved (the stuff in the packages is never as good), but I didn't really know what it was made from or how it was made lol.

  • I luv Mochi!!! I luv Mochi Ice Cream too! I always eat this at the Japanese Resturant next to the Oriental Store that sells Mochi!!!

  • @Ninmika do you live in chciago!?! what the hell sounds like the same place i go!

  • @Syc0warden

No i live in California! hehe

  • Nice, they do it exactly like the rabbit on the moon.

  • I usually get Mochi at one or local Asian Grocery stores. Love the stuff, just wish it wasn't so expensive.

    Question:

What is traditional Japanese music called?

  • All the mochi I have eaten had ice cream inside. Delicious.

  • They look delicious.

  • Brings back great memories of the New Year opening ceremony at the Ship Repair Facility in Yokosuka. After speeches and the breaking open of a cask of sake, the mochi pounding started. It's hard to coordinate the swinging of the hammer-like device (I forget the Japanese name) after a few cups of good sake!

  • Sugoi!!!!

  • I ♥ Mochi!!!Especially green tea mochi

  • I absolutely love Mochi! There's a little world market (Mostly supplying asian goods and supplies) sells them in the candy isle. They have a bag of mini ones that have melon, peach, orange, and strawberry flavors. Though I love the regular sized strawberry-they are amazing!

  • I loooove daifuku!

  • I'd definately like to try one filled with ice cream *drool*

  • Mochi is great. I've eaten it before with ice cream in the middle.
