I've tried all the synthetics but have found Merino wool works better than anything else I've ever tried. I've had 7 seasons in Antarctica to work this out, including having the challenge of Reynaud's of my hands. For me nothing works as well as wool...or changing into dry ones once they get wet.

Looks very warm and protected but Im surprised you choose 'wool' socks and glove liners. I am no expert but have heard many times that synthetics will hold the warmth better when they become wet and dry much faster. You look toasty warm though!

It really doesn't matter as long as there's no resistance. For some with slippery hair it works fine to pull it straight down. On my dry top, for instance, I need to pull the neck out. Different things work for different folks.
