you should try proactive ive been use it for while and a great moisturizer like neutrogena ant try to scrub your face with baking soda ,do some facial using eggs or carrots ,mud mask , yogurt and lemon and be patients

i am currently using retin a. did you skin get irrated badly too. like mine, it burns to put anything on it, it is peely & really flakey, & it BURNS ! it hurts to open my mouth and everything. how long did it take to stop irritation ?

oral contraceptives REALLY help me. this summer was awful. i didnt leave my house for a week it was that bad. im on doxycycline and yaz and using tretinoin. i love the tretinoin and yaz really helps me. my acne is hormonal so idk if youd want to use it. then again im scared to come off of it.

I just got my birth control today, but it's the generic brand of Yaz, which I am so pissed about!! I don't know why the pharmacist gave me the freaking generic version when they had the brand name Yaz in stock!!! My doctor even prescribed me specifically Yaz. And it was exactly the same price too when I called later after I got home. But I just researched the generic (Gianvi), and it seems to have a lot of bad reputation (lawsuits, ineffective results etc.) I just hope it works and not a rip off

@instantramen god the same thing happened to me. I WAS PRESCRIBED YAZ and they gave me gianvi and i took it for one month but my mom was like even if you have to pay a lot just get yaz. so im on yaz. the pharmacy honestly charged me 70 dollars the first time when i asked for yaz. but the second time only forty... i think cost price is 90 something. i would recommend getting yaz even if its more expensive

You got Yaz for $70? LUCKY! I was told by my pharmacist that its $20 more than Gianvi, which is $90. My insurance doesn't cover birth control so I'm paying 70 bucks every month out of my own pocket; which sucks.. but I guess the Gianvi results are treating me well so far. I wonder if Yaz would be better and work faster though because I want to get rid of this acne asap. Maybe I should try Yaz for my last refill before I renew my prescription. How's Yaz working for you btw??

@instantramen they dont cover birth control? even if its for hormonal acne and not as a contraceptive? wow thats expensive. since april and all summer i HAD HORRIBLE skin. like all over my jawline and painful and at first it was cystic and then i got like pustular acne in the same area.. sorry for the horrible details but im sure youre familiar with this horrible condition. anyways i wouldnt leave my house for a week it was that bad. now that im on yaz and antibiotics its cleared up completely.

@instantramen only thing im dealing with at the moment is the red marks and hyperpigmentation. however im using tretinoin which is helping. so im trying to get the word out to people to use tretinoin because i wish i had known about it. its really great. also helps with lines, wrinkles and blackheads

Hey, why don't you try accutane, it's amazing, don't ever take birth control, it's not a good idea, i've been on accutane and I was not on birth control and I did not experience any side effects, trust me, you have to try it unbelievable.

I had rly rly bad acne for about 2 yrs. I constantly went to the derm for new Meds bc the ones I had weren't working. My derm even did an erection of my deep set pimples( hurt so bad!! I cried :'( ) but my acne kept on comin back! Although I am only 15 my derm finally chose to put me on yaz hoping it was because of unbalanced hormones. 3 months sence I hav started yaz and I havnt gotten a zit sence then. I hope yaz helps your acne bc accutane is rly rly harsh

your still pretty girl .....my acne doesnt bother me at all and when it used to thats when it seemed people noticed it more ...I think people just unconsciously know when your insecure about something and bother you about it

I'm convinced it has to do w/the tetracycline cuz i never had it before that. Since then i've been on every topical possible and even accutane and my acne is still coming back, Acne needs to just leave all us alone and quit making out lives miserable

I'm not trying to worry u, more like warn u, but i was on tetracycline for 2 years and the doctor never told me u shouldn't be on any antibiotic for that long. It got rid of my acne great for a year or so but then it stopped working b/c my body became immune to it. I was so disappointed : ( Now i have this urinary problem called interstitial cystitis and it's like having a urinary tract infection permanently cuz there's no cure.

what side effects did you get from using accutane? i totally understand what've you've been through. . . .i feel like i've tried a billion topical creams and pills, but nothing works, my doctor is thinking of putting me on accutane, but i am kinda scared of the side effects

i suffered from the scaring so my derm. prescribed differin, doxyclinin and clindagel topical gel then he prescibed tetracyline and it worked very well. But differin didnt work for my skin just the antibiotics

Humidifier (to combat the dryness)

Vitamin A pill

Vitamin C pill

Zinc pill

Multivitamin pill

Dermalogica Special cleansing gel

Dermalogica Active Moist

Dalacin T (morning/noon)

Differin 0.1% (before bed spot treatment)

I can relate with your story, I had a clear skin and then after college ( 2 years ago) I started breaking out, I tried to be strong but my mom and dad was stressed about it. I tred all the OTCs and nothing worked, I cried every night and was so depressed that I even broke up with my BF cause i feel sooooo UGLY!

I tried retin-a, it worked in the first 3 months then switched to differin now but still having breakouts. My confidence took a nose dive, hopefully things will get better.

@Akingskye aw i really feel for you. im sorry the retin-a didn't end your breakouts :( I know its really hard though acne tore me apart in so many ways. I lost all my confidence too.. just know that things WILL get better and keep telling yourself that.Try to be patient and not stress because that 'll make it worse. Good luck hopefully the differin will end up kicking in for u! if not you may want to consider an antibiotic to take along with using differin.

Omg I can totally relate to your story, My face was so clear and then all of a sudden I started breaking out. And yea, no matter how badly it affects you it for sure doesn't help if you put yourself down constantly right along with them. i got retin-a and tetracycline too! only i didnt get retin-a micro. i never had a breakout i dont think or if i did it wasnt bad. i havent started tetracycline but i will on saturday. and i feel the same way about becoming a dermatologist now!

that's so wierd that i popped out of nowhere, your skin was perfect before!! i know how you feel about being insecure! it totally does a number on your self esteem. especially when people point it out! cause could be stress/hormones for sure!

And also, take accutane! I took it, and while it wasn't a miracle drug for me (I still get some small zits sometimes, but now only on my chin) when I stopped taking it, it has kept away like 90% of the acne, and it's not big pimples anymore. It's really the only drug that makes a big effect on acne. good luck!

Make sure that you don't take it right before you go to bed! I got a stomach ulcer from that
