  • Wow his defense is just amazing, wow that was an exciting sparring session at the end.

  • knockdown @ 6:19

  • Song before they sparred?

  • de la hoya still landed more punches on chavez.. just that chavez got one good shot on him same thing happened in the kirkland fight last year

  • chavez was going easy on delahoya during this sparring session cuz delahoya was a young buck ! imagine a prime chavez fighting delahoya in a out war ! a prime chavez would have brutally tkod a prime delahoya with body shotz to the liver ! chavez el gran campeon mexicano ! in all time great !

  • @LiveAboveIgnorance Man vs Boy........

  • Julio Cesar Chavez, He began boxing as an amateur at the age of sixteen and after 14 wins entered an tournament in Mexico City, in which he got his first and only amateur loss.

  • man this training so legit with the banda! like a boss!

  • I think trying to figure out who was better between oscar and julio from this video is not fair. oscar was very young and julio probably still had plenty left in the tank. I agree with a earlier comment saying julio was like a tank in his prime. to all the people saying oscar was a great and he retired hall of famers. thats crazy talk. oscar was a great boxer,,,chavez is top 10 of all time. oscar fought a past prime chavez. If both fighters fought in thier prime. chavez wins in 8-10 rounds.

  • De La Hoya beat Chavez but that doesn't make him greater. Example: Spinks beat Ali did that make Spinks greater?

  • @TheGILBERTnetwork

If De La Hoya would have counted his "amateur" carreer then he would have had a similar record as Chavez. Mexican fighters count their amateur carreers, American fighters don't. De LA Hoya was/is greater.

And Spinks fought a very old Ali.

  • @JohnQRandom AMERICA IS FROM ALASKA ALL THE WAY DOWN TO ARGENTINA. STUPID.

  • @LALO0404

UH DUMBSHIT, "GEOGRAPHICALLY SPEAKING" THERE IS "NORTH" AND "SOUTH" AMERICA, I'M WELL AWARE OF THAT. BUT IN TERMS OF ****NATIONALITY**** THE ENTIRE WORLD REFERS TO ANYONE FROM THE UNITED STATES AS "AMERICAN."

    YOU DIDN'T KNOW THIS???

AS YOU MEXICANS ALWAYS SAY: JA JA JA JA JA JA JA JA JA JA JA JA!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @JohnQRandom That is an idiotic statement. Mexicans have a very proud amateur program, and are world renowned for their pros. These Mexicans start fighting pro as early as 15 and acquire a great deal of experience as adults. I'm a grown pro and have no where near the experience of the young Mexicans coming up...

  • @Toroballs76

Your failure to understand my comment is what is idiotic. US pros, regardless of their color do not count their amateur record, where as mexicans do. It has nothing to do with how renowned the Mexican amateur programs are, nor am I disrespecting anyone.

  • @JohnQRandom but chavez had 100 ans sum pro fights niot amature

  • @geno1001000

If he was American, half of those fights would have been considered "amateur" fights. The thing is this, Mexicans are considered "pro" at a very young age, where as American fighters are not. The word "pro" is just a title.

  • @JohnQRandom but when they go pro at 15 they dont fight with headgear so how is that considered amature ?

  • @geno1001000

If they were American, they would be wearing head gear. If 15 year old Mexican "pro" fought against 23 year old American pros (regerdless of color or ethnicity) for his first twenty fights, what do you think his record would be?

Are 15 year old Mexican fighters good? Of course, but they would size up to American amateurs much better than they would American pros.

  • @JohnQRandom Before to talk check first, Julio Cesar Chavez, He began boxing as an amateur at the age of sixteen and after 14 wins entered an tournament in Mexico City, in which he got his first and only amateur loss,Then Chavez decided he would fare better as a pro and got his pro career off to a good start by knocking out Andres Felix in the sixth round of his debut on February 5, 1980.

  • @TheMrColosal

What is your point?? Mine is that Mexican fighters are "pro" as teenagers because The Mexican boxing system labels them as such. As teenagers however, American fighters are considered "ammateurs" for much longer.

    Your information is irrelevant.

  • @JohnQRandom jejeje thats a complete lie, one thing is amateur carrer and other a profesional carrer, in Mexico, we separate that, when a boxer came a profesional, you info is complete a lie, jejeje you should investigate first before to talk shit.

  • @TheMrColosal

How is this so difficult for you to understand? 16 year old Mexican "pro" fighters would not be considered "pro" if they lived in the US. It has nothing to do with skill, it is simply a label.

  • A band? A crowd like that? For sparring? You know then that you are watching more than a regular sparring session.

  • de la hoya looked like a fuckin kid in this video what year is this

  • @mybabe2023 - he was 17

  • Chavez had some strong legs, that's where he got all that punching power and endurance from.

  • This video explains the whole rivalry between chavez and DLH...Arum poisened chavez's mind with anti Mexican/American propaganda that made him look bad once DLH beat the crap out of chavez. As a chavez fan, this is respectable but he should've respected Mexican/Americans...pochos pero locos. Golden Boy Promotions Forever...if Chavez JR. wants a future..join the Golden Boy. Plus...he doesn't stand a chance against Abner Mares!! Serio!!

  • @straybulletgraphics I always said Chavez Jr. should join Golden Boy. I agree with everything you said, very well said by the way, but you gotta be kidding me Abner Mares Vs. Chavez Jr ?? lmao Chavez Jr. is like 10 inches taller than him and fights like 5-6 weight divisions above Mares Bantamweight division.

  • @StickyGreenProd42O I was poking fun at the fact that Mares was smaller and can still win (not that it could happen). But all jokes aside...let Chavez Jr. shine.

  • This was in 91

  • Delahoya beat chavez in his prime? Chavez is toying with him here & drops him with protective gear on... Chavez ko's delahoya with the same shot bernard did cuz chavez threw it 10 times better & 10 times more often

  • Ladrillotabique wtf where you there? haha. First off, its SPARRING. Second, idk what most of you are talking about when you say oscar this blah blah blah. Chavez's rhythm was seriously relaxed (as he would in sparring) and Oscars was fresh and young. Noted that Chavez did become frustrated but reasonably so, Oscar was no chump, thats why they called him for sparring. Chavez came out harder the second round we see there, and the right landed just like its suppose to. It was an awesome sparring.

  • that day chavez did sparring with pepe reilly, shane mosley and de la hoya but the point is this: reilly and mosley fought chavez using 12 ozs gloves, but de la hoya used 18 ozs gloves while chavez used 12ozs gloves, just look at the gloves ARE HUGE!!! like pillows. chavez was afraid oscar. CHAVEZ IS A PUSSY

  • And yet....

    Chavez still got fucked up.

Face it all you haters, Chavez was great, but De La Hoya was and still is The Greatest.

  • @sabc714 r u fucking kidding me???

chavez had more than 110 fights

dat shit takes a toll on ur body

dont compare the legend to a bitch

  • @rogersahagun haha, De La Hoya would have still be Chavez in his prime.

De La Hoya aint a bitch, he killed legends! he never backed down from any challange!

Vargas, Mayorga, Chavez....and the list goes on.

Chavez was great, no doubt, but you don't like Oscar because at first he didn't want to hold the Mexican flag up, no, he wanted the USA flag. Don't talk shit like Chavez did because then, you're just ganna get smashed.

  • @sabc714 no he wldnt hav

chavez went 89 fights without losing a single fight

chavez will always be the greatest

    oscar got killed by pacman

    dats pathetic

  • @rogersahagun wow, Chavez would have been embaressed by Pac man. De La Hoya would have destroyed bolth of them in his prime. De La Hoya is the greatest, I don't see Chavez making a fraction of what De La Hoya is making. I see Chavez's son working for De La Hoya. SHUT THE FUK UP DUDE! You don't know jack shyt!

  • @sabc714 your right peoople criticize de la hoya , well americans used to criticize him because they said he was mexican theh mexican criticize him because they said he was american , but i disagree with u , i think chavez would beat de la hoya in his prime

  • @98eltigrillo If they were bolth in their prime, it would have been the best fight, possibly better than Pacquiao VS mayweather, but De La Hoya would have beat him. Stiff jab, killer left hook, he knew how to get opponents off of him. I believe De La Hoya was very skilled and experienced, and would have beaten chavez.

  • @sabc714 yea thats what my brotheits says , if they had a fight both on their prime i would go for de la hoya , i just thought chavez would win because of what people said , i was thinking about what u said and ur right , de la hoya would win , and i agree with u it would be a great fight almost like barrera vs morales 1

  • @98eltigrillo Yeah(: and Barrera Morlases III would have been their retiring fight lmaoo(:

  • How cool is this? A live band good sparring, good crowd..

  • chavez was still beaten by de la hoya

  • this sparring session was the master teaching the student

  • Chavez is a beast!!!!

  • pinche chavez hijo de su puta madre!!!jajaja se rifa el cabron.. one can see that when he actually tries, his fucking class out shines de la hoya!!! but props to a young de la hoya doing a lot right in the ring.... viva mexico cabrones!!!

  • Chavez didnt even try to fight back in this sparring session and he still floored oscar

  • lol at this point chavez is still a full armored tank, at that time not even hundreds of punches by meldrick taylor was able to stop him.

but when you're 35 years old with 100 pro fights, you're body will finally get weakened

  • Chavez was just toying with him the first two rounds. Notice after Chavez knocks him down, Oscar tries to throw a quick flurry and Chavez dodges every single punch as if to say, "you were only hitting me because I was letting you". By the time they fought for real CHavez was a shot fighter. A younger Chavez would've beaten Oscar at any point in his career.

  • damn!! De La Hoya felt the power @6:08 and hit da floor @6:20

by the way when was it? Chavez looks great, in shape and all

  • This sparring session took place in the late 80's,probably 89. DLH was preparing for the olimpics and Chavez was preparing for the historic showdown with Meldrick Taylor.

  • @josemezatorrez

no mi amigo de hecho creo que fue en el 91 o 92, porque se puede escuchar como el publico le grita a Chavez "noquealo como a Taylor" o sea que ya habia pasado la historica pelea Chavez/Taylor que fue en el 90

no my friend, in fact i believe it was in 91 or 92, because u can listen how people shout at Chavez "knock him out like Taylor", so the historical match Chavez/Taylor of 1990 had already happened

  • hahaha awesome waist control by chavez at the end DLH couldn't land 1 shot there

  • Oscar was wearing pink panties during this sparring session. Just kidding LoL

  • if you guys like this one, check out mosley sparring with chavez also.

  • this is were chavez's hatred for oscar started. chavez was hitting oscar hard to begin with, so oscar returned the punches. when oscar did that chavez felt he was being upstaged by him so he put A beating on the teen boy . unfortunately the sparring session was not the same outcome as the real fight for chavez.

  • cuz he was 100 plus fights in his career

  • i see it more as , everyone has there time on top, but when its your time to go you gotta go. you cant stay young and fight like a twenty year old forever. time catches up to everyone , same thing happened to oscar. and im not saying that chavez was any less in any way for losing .

  • @bdboyoscar1

    teen boy?

De La Hoya had at least 20 year old in this vid

  • @sly717 at most he was 18 i believe. or maybe around 16 - 18. thats when he sparred chavez, according to what oscar says. hes talked about this sparring session before. and he says how chavez made him remember why he (chavez) was the man.

  • nah it looked like Chavez was just taking it easy on oscar. We all know that Chavez doesn't fight like this (doesn't let his opponent just hit him at will) during his real fights. Oscar did a great job in there though and looked like the better boxer besides getting knocked down.

  • oscar's combos are slick... they both have some huge gloves on lol that's how much power chavez had

  • This was THE Chavez vs De la Hoya fight, If it wasn't for the cut in the first round, I think Chavez would have done the same and this time knock him out, I like both boxers, but Chavez is the Best. Better than de la Hoya....years and years of experience ahead from DLH.

  • looks like chavez has 30oz gloves on

  • JAJA DLH was trying to show off and he got put on his place by king Cesar! I never knew this video was on youtube. Its in my favorites now. Thanks rskbreaker.

  • What a great professional was Chavez, he let the young de la hoya to show hes skills but ones he knock him down, de la hya got up and tray to do the same but this time Chavez start moving hes head like he does in hes REAL FIGHTS(not sparring)Chavez was known to WORK in sparring and this was only a especial event with the 3 future Olympians sparring Chavez (1991) they were not their sparring partners, their body strength and experience wouldn't benefit Chavez in that time.

  • Oscar was a teenager here using pillows as punching gloves. 16oz gloves and still gave him a boxing lesson. A prime DLH was a much more complete fighter than a prime JCC. Good job ODLH!!!

  • uuuum take a knee...more like get dropped straight to a knee by one sharp ass

'old legend". Oscar was trying to show out using speed when JC was just looking like he wanted to have a relaxed sparring session. Oh and nice job JC slipping oscar's jab when he dropped him.

  • como chavez no hay 2 ni el puto de de la hoya

  • nadie como el cesar mexicano viva mexico cabrones

  • Oscar wasnt even in his prime obviously Chavez was gona own him in sparring lLOL

  • relax guys. it wasnt a real fight. if it was chavez would have pressuring oscar and throwing nonstop combos to the head and body until he dropped. as you can see chavez is just walking through oscars punches and just waiting. i'm sure he didnt want to hurt the guy.

  • what year is this? de la hoya doesnt even look that much taller than chavez.

  • what year was this session done??

  • de la hoya was giving dat shit every thing he had and chavez didnt looked fased once chavez landed fewer punches and still made him take a knee haha lol

  • Yeah, haha...Watch their real fight.

  • Here is a young DLH creating angles and punching Chavez with this superb combinations

  • Young Oscar de la hoya was a super fighter.

  • Legendary Stuff!!

  • u have a band to play during rest for sparring.. damn cool

  • Yep you can tell JCC was taking it easy on the kid. Someone said that DLH was a sparring partner of the great JCC so I had to check it out. I'm guessing that is was late 80s?

  • Whats size gloves is De La wearing!? holy shit

  • He went down...

  • I thought it was a right hand that put DLH on the floor. But taking a closer look it actually looks that it was the left hook before that one who put DLH on the floor. His leg just went up by the hook and he went down. 6:18

  • 2 of my favorite fighters. Beautiful combinations by a young Oscar, Nice right hand by Chavez. Love the banda in the background.... shit, I wish I was there ringside with a 12 pack. LoL

  • I am with you on that one. what else can u ask for. good fight. good banda. and some cold beers..

  • What an amazing video, thanks!!!!

  • Chavez camp handicapped DLH they made him wear pillows as gloves. Definitly scared of young DLH power.

  • It was close to some fight. They put this type of gloves to avoid cuts before the fights. As you now they weren't so caution before the First Hoya Chavez fight.

  • You can totally tell that Chavez was taking it easy on the pup. As soon as he wanted he could have floored DLH, just like we saw in this video. Taking nothing away from DLH cause he is a great boxer.

  • pinche banda lol .sick sick lol

  • damn de la hoya was fuckin fast

look at them beautiful crisp left hooks!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I had always heard about this famous (or infamous) sparring session between a teenage De La Hoya and JC Chavez, but have never seen it. There is also video of Chavez sparring against a teenage Shane Mosley as well. Great post rekbreaker.

  • the both sparred him on the same day as well it was ubove a resturant in LA

  • its jam packed more than a damn amateur matcch lol.. and its only a sparring session..wow

  • Great sparring session with the KING and the one who would be KING.

  • DLH NEVER QUITE THE NEW KING

  • The Master teaching his young student some few tricks. The student thinks he knows all the tricks, but gets cought by one.

  • @50Lobo De la hoya's gloves look huge.

  • That was awesome. Thanks for the video. What an atmosphere.

  • Great clip. You can tell Chávez had more experience then, Oscar was looking good, but still, Chavez could take him back then.

  • can someone confirm a date on this video?

  • It has to be before their first fight, because a narrator says "he has a great future" (meaning Óscar)

  • damn delahoya was skinny!!!did he weight 135???

  • i could take both of them out

  • to all you dumbfucks who think oscar was killin him u dont know shit. chavez is preparing for taylor who threw alot of flurries so he is getting used to that kind of fighter. oscar and shane were brought in for that reason.

  • The point is:

Chávez in this session sent to De La Hoya to the ground.

Aquí hay un punto, en esta sesió Chávez mandó a la lona a De La Hoya.

  • Chavez was traning for a fight you dont want to casue an cuts or injurys before the real bout in just a sparring session. Anybody that knows boxing knows Chavez at full speed would have walked over Oscar and Mosely sparring is just a workout not a fight.

  • you think alexh3116 knows boxing?? fuck no! that mother fucker got into boxing yesterday!

  • who i could feel that from here, my head feels numb

  • every sparring session isnt a fight to the de la hoya fans...its an excerise of a skill or workout..head movement...ring movement.. jab work..etc...like homie said clearly chaves was working on body and head movement..look at the mosely sparring video

  • This is a sparring session YOU NOOBS CHAVEZ WAS TOYING WITH THE GUY INTILL HE STEP IT UP DOWN GOES OSCAR, SOME OF YOU HAVE NEVER EVER BEEN IN A RING AND DONT EVEN KNOW WHAT IS THE POINT OF A SPARRING SESSION

  • But is the point to knock your sparring partner down? point of sparring is learning not "toying" with the other guy

  • Thanks for posting this historical video. Chavez wasn't even trying so you guys thinking Oscar outboxed him don't know WTF pros do during sparring. Chavez was just putting in rounds and as soon as he stepped it up Oscar went down. Chavez did that so Oscar couldn't brag in case he was delusional.

  • Shit man, fucking Chavez fought a young Shane Mosley and Pepe Reilly while they all wore those 10 oz. gloves and they made De La Hoya wear two pound pillows. Just look at the results when they wore the same size gloves each time.

  • DLH talks about this session in the new Ring Magazine. I guess they gave him 18 oz gloves because they knew he was going all out.

Anyone who says Chavez got his ass kicked is wrong. He was merely practicing head movement against fast fighters(Mosley, DLH) in preparation for Meldrick Taylor.

  • De la Hoya was dominating before the knockdown, a sign of things to come, as De la hoya beat him twice...it's good to see this video, especially after I just finished reading Oscar's book, he talks about this session in it!

  • Chavez was toyed, when he want knockdown to DLH, in the first fight Chavez has the cut eyebrow. The point is:

Chavez 28 years old vs DLH 28 years old.

    I think, Chavez by knockout

  • Yeah, I believe that...good point!

  • viva mexico cabrones!!!!

  • this is the reason y they fought in 1996

because there were many ppl saying that de lahhoya with 0 pro fights slightly beat a prime undefeated chavez

  • WRONG! This sparring session had nothing to do with what took place later. They fought because it was economically important for everyone. This was simply a sparring session, they had 18 OZ gloves and head gear. It is obvious when Chavez pushed the session who was coming out on top.

  • De la hoya won this session although Chavez looked wore out and wasnt throwing or attemping anything big .. But De la hoya here looks sharp and looked tuff..

  • jajjaja

  • dope sparring session...gotta admit oscar was one tuff kid...showed a ton of heart and fire...got smashed with the right and got right up...excellent video!

  • Holy smokes look at the weight difference!!! He's gotta be at least 15 pounds heavier than em.

  • I'm surprised De La Hoya wasn't wearing Lingerie and make up for this fight!!!

even though he knew he was going to get FUCKED!!!!

    hahahahahhaha

  • Good one, ese Miguelon el pachuco.

  • you can see the weight difference affects the fight....

i still give dlh win by UD in there prime.

  • gooooo chavez!

  • i think this delhoya can beat mayweather?

  • I'm surprised De La Hoya wasn't wearing Lingerie and make up for this fight!!!

even though he knew he was going to get FUCKED!!!!

    hahahahahhaha

  • On June 7th Oscar De La Hoya cut chavez with a single jab ! and stopped him.

  • Chavez=$0

    DeLaHoya=$500,000,000

    oscar won at the end

  • Chavez 28 years Old vs DLH 28 years old.

    The winner is Chavez!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • humm...como chavez...gran campeon...he never attacks a hurt man...but punishes himm let this chaves fight de la hoya in both their prime!!1..chavez win!!

  • chavez just toyed with the young delahoya after the knockdown delahoya was shaken bad but chavez didn't even take advangtage, delahoya was throwing bombs

  • what fuck

  • this was good to watch, cheers. funny seeing de la hoya getting dropped! oscar was taking libertys with chavez untill he put him in his place with that right hand. it would of been a great fight if these 2 fought in thier primes!!
