They only reason that dolphins aren't meant to be eaten is because of the high levels of mercury in their meat, which a lot of the Japanese people don't know about. I suggest that instead of, "fuck up a Japanese", why don't you volunteer at a dolphin center near you or something like that and actually DO something about this rather than just say stuff on youtube. The tuna industry kills more dolphins and throws them away a thousand times more then this small fishing community kills once a year. For those of you who say that killing farm animals are different & are killed nicely, I'd challenge you to take a look at footage of factory farms. Broiler chickens are shoved into disguistingly tiny cages, pumped with antibiotics&hormones to prevent them from getting ill due to living in their own poo & walking over others who have deceased. And 'Smithfields foods' kill 18,000 pigs a day...you think they kill them all nicely? They've been filmed brutalizing pigs. They even admit they slip up!
As a dominant, carnivorous species on the planet, it's natural that we will consume other forms of life to ensure our own survival, but that's not to say that we shouldn't express empathy when we do so. With all our technological advancements, we have the capability of consumption with a minimal degree of suffering to others and in doing so can also ensure the survival of the species. Yes. There may be toxins in dolphin meat but, there're also toxins and antibiotics in farm animals. Moreover, the willingness to eat meat that may be contaminated with mercury is the business and RIGHT of the eater and not the observer. They only reason that dolphins aren't meant to be eaten is because of the high levels of mercury in their meat, which a lot of the Japanese people don't know about. I suggest that instead of, "fuck up a Japanese", why don't you volunteer at a dolphin center near you or something like that and actually DO something about this rather than just say stuff on youtube. That's what I'm doing this summer.

do you realize that pigs are highly intelligent animals? Yet, no one seems to care about eating them. For those of you who say that killing farm animals are different & are killed nicely, I'd challenge you to take a look at footage of factory farms. Broiler chickens are shoved into disguistingly tiny cages, pumped with antibiotics&hormones to prevent them from getting ill due to living in their own poo & walking over others who have deceased. And 'Smithfields foods' kill 18,000 pigs a day...you think they kill them all nicely? They've been filmed brutalizing pigs. They even admit they slip up!

Yes. There may be toxins in dolphin meat but, there're also toxins and antibiotics in farm animals. Moreover, the willingness to eat meat that may be contaminated with mercury is the business and RIGHT of the eater and not the observer. That an animal can communicate with its kith and kin doesn't exclude it from being a candidate for the dinner table as cows, chickens, etc all do that too even if not at a level as sophisticated as dolphins.

If your concern is with the question of extinction, then, work with those who eat dolphin and come up with a plan that involves them, so that while they harvest the dolphins, they may be mindful of breeding periods, sanctuary areas, quotas, etc? Dolphins haven't any real natural predators so, the informed and careful culling a few isn't going to force them into extinction.

No. The reason why you don't eat cats, dogs and chimps is not "because in some ways they are a lot like us", but, because you have alternatives with which you can meet your dietary needs. If you lived in a country where poultry and beef were a luxury, you wouldn't be so hoity toity about which animals "are a lot like us" and which aren't. In fact, you'd be eternally grateful if you happened upon a rabit, snake or rat that you could take home to suppliment your diet with.

@Titoscudd I worded my point wrongly, my point was that we can interact with them in ways you cant with other animals, you can have a relationship with your dog or cat where they become almost like a sibling or child, these animals, especially dogs show compassion to their owners. You could get shot in the face infront of a cow and it couldnt give less of a fuck about what just happened, but your dog would probably become depressed and miss you. Dolphins show signs inteligence.they're not fish.

All that sentiment aside. The bottom line is this - if people have to eat then no animal is off limits at various dinner tables all over the world. And the fact that Westerners have learned to cuddle their dogs to the point of viewing them as semi-human, doesn't mean that everyone all over the world must do the same.

@Titoscudd That is true. However, these fishermen arent doing this for survival. It is slaughter and driven by selfish and greedy motives. And im not saying america is any better. Infact you can look everywhere in the world and see selfish acts such as these. If a person was starving or needed to feed a family, i would not look down upon them killing any animal that could be used as nourishment. These fishermen could easily make a living fishing FISH, not slaughtering highly inteligent dolphins.

Yes, the millions of cattle and poultry that are slaughtered daily for the glutinous pleasure of humans is an inhumane act upon nature, But you cannot use this in an argument about dolphins. You are attempting to outweigh dolphin killing with another conflict of animal cruelty.

LOL!! The bottom line is, people eat animals for food. Whether or not they eat more than they need to and become obese as a consequence is a TOTALLY different matter. And the fact that you THINK some animals should be excluded from YOUR dinner table doesn't give you the right to dictate to others that those animals should also be excluded from their dinner table. So, if that's illogical to you then you need to go and boost your cogitative ability.

C'mon gerroff!! If you lived in a country where your next meal or balanced diet wasn't certain, then, you'd understand that on issues such as this, there are no absolutes or no perfect solutions. You strike me as one of those confused Western types, who, all it takes to dissuade them from eating chicken nuggets are pictures of slaughtered birds, blood and guts. I've slaughtered all manner of animal with my own hands and a knife and I did it to put food on my table.

Charity begins at home. If you feel so passionately about the lives of animals, first begin by stopping the slaughter of ALL animals in your country. See if your legislators will pass laws that criminalize the consumption of beef, fish and poultry. See if they'll allow herds of deer, bears, foxes, etc to grow uncontrolled by seasonal culling. After you've achieved that, THEN, you can come to the international community and prattle about killing dolphins for food.
