Considering most of the pilots died trying to learn to take off due to the fact that the early biplanes had engines that rotated causing a lot of torque that rolled the plane into the ground on takeoff, throw in the fact that early engines didn't have carbs so they had to cut the fuel off and on to slow down to land. And--the early machine guns were mounted overhead so they didn't hit the prop. These guys are flying the much better aircraft in WW1.
Six weeks!? The average life expectancy of a pilot on the Western Front flying for Britain, France, or the United States was 48 hours! 17.5 for RAF pilots during Bloody April.
@Tigerman1138 I wondered if I was the only one who noticed that. Thank goodness I'm not!!!! By the way, Blaine's name is spelled Rawlings. Not Rollins.
Great film. Funny what CEAAA22 said, true id thought squadron leaders had to be oppermistic. But i think he was being more Realistic than optermistic lol. I live that scene. Cassidy is awsome:)
I love Cassidy. Even though he comes off cold, he wants to protect them.(if you watch the entire movie and understand his character
LOL
"he's funny, i may even come to his funeral."

@ipi223 Indeed. Remember that aviation was still new even considering that people did race airplanes before WWI.

I didn't understand him...until I went back to what Cassidy says to Rollins in this scene. IT is hard to understand.
"You think your six-shooter's gonna help you up there?"
A forshadowing of the end!
The Black Falcon meets his end thanks to Rollins superior handgun skills, not the gun on the front of his plane.

Squadron Leaders are usually more positive and friendlier to newbies, but I'm glad they wrote Cassidy the way they did.
