a electric motor the of the same size as the gasoline one has more power at the wheels since electric motors are 95% and up in efficiency vs 25% (on a good one) for gasoline. so if u have a electric motor the size of ur car engine u will be beating everyone around as long as ur batteries don't run out. That said many factors come to play when building electric motors, magnets, windings, coreless vs ferrite core, etc... so u can have a powerful one or a slightly less powerful one.

the reason we aren't using electronic engines is because we haven't developed batteries that will last long enough for a long trip, you can't just charge bats like u fill up on gas it takes several hours, the current batteries that have the most storage are very expensive and that is why we don't see many electric cars.
